LEE Filters 9NDSTD overview

  • 1Description

Lee Neutral Density gels are available in small increments and have many uses. They offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. ND filters appear grey and reduce the amount of light reaching the film. They have no effect on color balance. They have four main uses: 1) To enable slow shutter speeds to be used, especially with high speed films, to record movement in subjects such as waterfalls, clouds, or cars. 2) To decrease depth of field by allowing wider apertures to be used, which helps separate subjects from their background. 3) To decrease the effective ISO of high speed film (above ISO 400) and allow it to be used outdoors in bright situations. 4) To allow cine and video cameras (which have fixed shutter speeds) to film subjects such as snow, sand or other bright scenes which could cause overexposure.

Lee resin filters are made from lightweight, optical resin and are 4 x 4" (100 x 100mm) x 2mm thick.

These filters are available in increments from 1 to 3 stops exposure reduction.

Neutral Density factors:

ND .30 (exposure adjustment = 1 stop)

ND .60 (exposure adjustment = 2 stops)

ND .90 (exposure adjustment = 3 stops)

LEE Filters 9NDSTD reviews

4x4" Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Resin Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the Trick I have used this filter for pre-dawn motion shots along the Lake Michigan shoreline and as in the past all of the items i have purchased from Lee Filters are top notch and second to none. I have friends that were shooting with other brands and they have all switched over to Lee due to the exceptional quality and no color cast whatsoever. The price may be a little steep, but eventually you learn that you get what you pay for in photography gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Water Works I've stacked ND filters to gain the desired shutter speed... Now I can use one filter! This single filter gets me to the shutter speeds I typically want when the ambient light is just too much. The filer's fit to the holder is excellent. With the first use I could tell it was not going to be in jeopardy of slipping out. Having been a Cokin user for a number of years, I am really re-thinking my equipment purchases. I will be more prone to choose the Lee system now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for Bought some Cokin NDs in the same stoppage and the magenta hue from stacking was a huge disappointment. Lee ND's do not have any color cast problems and can work well with a stacked Cokin, just don't stack more than 1 Cokin. Or just save your money and avoid Cokin all together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pricey.. You get what you pay for - No color casts.- Pricey. But better than the alternatives.- Upgraded to Lee filters to avoid the strong color casts in the images introduced by my earlier filter sets.- There is a glass version available from Lee. That is almost 1.5 times expensive. This filter does what it is made to do. Resin is less resistant to scratches (as compared to glass), but less fragile at the same time. I am happy with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality equipment Lee filters are pricy, but you get what you pay for. Excellent quality filters. Helps a lot for shots with water bodies (specially waterfalls). During daytime, I usually use my 10 stop filter for getting smooth water. But, during less light hours, this thing is indispensable, Good sharp images, little color cast (easily correctable in PP).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth the price This is a quality filter with no detectable color shift. It's a bit pricey. But the additional cost is easily saved by not having to worry about correcting for a color cast in post. I went with the resin over glass because I expect to be using it quite a lot; and dropping an equivalent glass filter can get expensive in a hurry.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great but... For such a high demand for this filter, I was surprised how much blue color cast it has...I'm talkin huge amout of blue. It can be corrected but sometimes it can be tough. Other than the color, I did not notice any real loss of sharpness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent results 3 stops with no noticable color change. Pricey but you get what you pay for.
