GOOD QUALITY AT A FAIR PRICE

I ordered this 4x6 Graduated Sunset 3 Resin Filter by LEE Filters not knowing exactly what to expect. I've always used glass filters and was a little skeptical of resin filters. But, I had recently purchased a filter holder that I altered to accept both 4mm thick glass filters and 2mm thick resin filters. I liked the idea of having a longer (6 inch) filter to be able to slide the filter up or down in the holder to get it to the exact position in front of the lens that I wanted. I don't know of any glass filters you can do that with.I got this filter to test if resin filters would stand up to glass filters as far as optical quality is concerned. I made the test shots with my Nikon D4 and Nikkor 24-70mm. f2.8 lens at ISO 100. The camera was locked down firmly on a tripod shooting at a brick wall in my back yard. The exposure was 1/250 @ f 8.0 and focus was locked on manual. I made tests with no filter in front of the lens and then with a series of 77mm and 4X4 glass filters in front of the lens from Tiffen, B+W, Cavision, Formatt Hitech, and Nikon, as well as the 4x6 Graduated Sunset 3 Resin Filter by LEE Filters.I enlarged each test image to the equivalent of a 24' X36 print. I COULD NOT DETECT ANY LOSS IN SHARPNESS in the Lee filter test image compared to the test images shot with the other brands of glass filters or even the test with no filter for that matter. I was very impressed with the quality of this filter and I now feel that I can use the Lee brand of resin filters with confidence. As a matter of fact, I just used the LEE 4x6 Graduated Sunset 3 Resin Filter yesterday evening on a very dull, grey sunset and it really did the trick and saved what would have been and otherwise unusable shot!Also, unlike another manufacturer who only ships their 4X6 filters in a plastic bag, LEE Filters ships their 4X6 filters in a very nice Cordura Nylon pouch that really protects the filter and makes it safe and easy to carry the filters into the field.

More than I expected

When I purchased this Sunset 3 grad filter I was expecting a sunset color. This filter actually is 3 colors. It's clear on the bottom half, as expected. But then it graduates from a nice golden yellow, to a sunset orange, and finally a sunset red at the top where the sky would naturally be darker. Looking forward to my next trip to the beach with it for a sunset shoot!
