Canon Close-up Lenses are for quick and easy close-up photography. The close-up lens is screwed on to the front of a lens like a filter. Close-up lenses 500D has two achromatic elements (the 250D lens also)  to correct chromatic aberrations. It does not degrade the high optical performance of EF lenses. Close-up lens 500 has only one element. The 500D is optimized for lenses of 70-300mm.

question

What's the difference between 500D and 250D?
Asked by: RXian X.
The 250D and the 500D are intended to add close up ability to non macro lenses. The 250D is suited for for focus lengths between 30 to 135mm. The 500D and 500 are intended focal lengths between 70 to 300mm. You can use them on Macro lenses they will rescue the field of view and increase the magnification of the Macro lens.

question

Can a clear protective filter be placed on the front of the Canon 500D close up lens?
Asked by: Sue
Hi Sue, I'm not really sure. I would imagine so. It's looks just like any other filter. Whether or not it hinders the quality i do not know. Though it does seem like a great idea. I'm forever taking it on and off....sorry I couldn't help you more...

This close up lens will shorten the focusing distance on the lens it is placed on. It can be used for copy work.
