Canon 2824A001 Overview

Canon Close-up lenses are for quick and easy close-up photography. The close-up lens is screwed on to the front of a lens like a filter. Close-up lenses 250D and 500D have two achromatic elements to correct chromatic aberrations. They do not degrade the high optical performance of EF lenses. Close-up lens 500 has only one element, making it more affordable.

The 250D is suited for lenses with a focal length anywhere from 30 to 135mm. The 500D and 500 are geared for lenses with a focal length anywhere from 70 to 300mm.

Can I use the 500D with my Tamron 150/600 mm G2 lens
Asked by: George
I have not used the 500d on my tamron lens. However, that lens has been very compatible with my canon bodies. I have used the 500d with my canon 70-200 and it works very well. It is best used with a tripod to hold a particular focus. I have had mixed results when hand holding and the 150/600 is slightly heavier and even with stabilizer slight movements decrease sharpness.

Can I use a step up adaptor ring with a close up lens? It's not a flat glass after all.

Yes you can use a step up ring to fit this close up lens on lenses with a smaller front thread.

Can I use this on a Panasonic Lumix FZ80? Will the threads fit?

Not sure but probably. I use it on Nikon 77 mm lenses you must match the size.

question

Which is preferable? Using a Canon 500D close up lens or using extension tubes? What are the differences?
Asked by: David D.
My experience: The close-up gets you farther away from a subject while doing a close-up shot. The extension tubes disable some lens functions like auto focus but allow closer distances to the subject and more magnification. A close-up on a big zoom is harder to hold steady hand-held.

question

who ever tried it with a nikkor 24-120 lens? How far I can bring the lens to the subject as much as possible?
Asked by: Denis M.
I use this with a 24-120 a lot and it works well. It works better on a 70-300 with an adapter ring or a 28-300 because the longer telephoto range lets you even better enlargement of the subject.
