The Kirk BL-5D3 L-Bracket is an ultra-compact, lightweight tripod mount that is custom designed to snugly fit a Canon 5D Mark III, 5DS, or 5DS R camera body. Machined from a single piece of 6061T6 industrial strength aluminum, it provides full access to all switches, sockets, and the battery drawer.

This design allows you to release, turn, and remount your camera in mere seconds, when switching from horizontal to vertical orientation and back. It is especially ideal for use with shorter macro, wide-angle, and tilt-shift lenses.

For use with quick release tripod mount systems that use the Arca Swiss type clamp.

Custom made one-piece bracket machined from lightweight 6061TG Aluminum.
Allows full access to rubber side hatches.
Allows use of camera strap.

    BL-5D3 L-Bracket for Canon 5D Mark III, 5DS, and 5DS R is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from pretty good Crazy bulky but I was expecting that. The one major complaint I have with this is that is that to take it off or put it on you have to remove the neck strap and put it back on. This makes it a very time consuming and annoying process. If your camera mostly lives on a tripod then this product will make shooting vertical much better but if like me, you're shooting hand held as much as you're in a tripod then you might not like this. With it on you pretty much lose the ergonomic grip that the 5D III has.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for my needs After deciding not to use the batterygrip on my 5DIII anymore and already owing the Kirk L bracket for my 1DX I was certain that I wanted the Kirk L bracket for my 5DIII. Not able to buy it overhere in the Netherlands I was happy that I could purchase this from B&H with DHL saver shipping to keep the cost low.. And like the one on the 1DX it fits perfect with easy acces to all the ports and no sharp edges. I love it, working perfect with my Markins Q20i balhead to. Now keeping my fingers crossed that the L-bracket on the 1DX will fit the preordered 1DXII otherwise I do want the Kirk bracket for that body.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works like a Champ Mounted the bracket and reattached the camera strap to the left side Canon 5DIII camera. All things fit just fine. There is a little extra on the bottom of the camera for hand held shooting but not a problem. My real concern was attaching my remote shutter release which is on the left side of the camera. My concern was unfounded. The remote shutter release works just fine in vertical or horizontal mode with the camera on a tripod. I can find no reason to take it off the camera. I tested the bracket on a week hike in the mountains of Colorado, without a single problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits like a glove I bought this L-bracket to use primarily for shooting panoramas in portrait mode. The key benefits of this bracket include: + customized slip proof support of the camera in portrait, as well as landscape modes + easy access to I/O ports on the side of the camera + sensor centering lines (I use this for set up in finding the nodal point of a lens) + threaded hole that will allow for a custom strap (I use the Black Rapid RS-7) The key downside considerations: - expensive (but not really when compared to the alternatives) - need to remove the stock Canon Camera strap The custom fit of this bracket will ensure that my camera does not slip because of a over/under tightening of the screw that holds the bracket to the camera. In addition to the front lip on the bracket that is custom designed to wrap up around the camera, there is the added support provided by a bolt that utilizes the camera's camera strap loop (see 14of the additional images). The open nature of the bracket will easily allow for the use remote controllers and other corded items (i.e. corded audio/video I/O devices). The sensor centering lines are very handy in ensuring that the camera is centered properly in the bracket and in a nodal rail, when setting up for the proper nodal point in shooting panoramic images. While this bracket is expensive for a simple piece of metal, it was much less expensive than some of the alternatives that I considered. When you also consider that this L-Bracket is customized for the 5D Mark III and functions much better than the alternatives, the price really starts to look like a real bargain. While the use of the camera's strap loop means you will have to lose the stock Camera strap, the inclusion of a threaded hole on the bottom of the bracket will allow for a custom strap like the Black Rapid RS-7 to be attached. I would also point out that the bracket is powder coated, which means that the first time you go to screw in the bolt through the camera strap, you MUST BE CAREFUL so you don't cross-thread and strip it out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great quality, but.... This is a high quality device that fits my 5D Mark III like the proverbial glove. The camera is very secure in the frame and allows one to change orientation on a tripod quickly and without worrying about the stability of the set-up. My only complaint is the high price. I understand the need to recoup design and engineering costs for a custom product, but $ seems excessive.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great This L-bracket fits the Canon 5D Mark III fine. If you loosen the connector screw on the bottom, it is designed to slide out so that you can access the plugs on the side of the camera with a non-L shaped connector (e.g., cable release plug) when shooting in portrait mode. Although the 5D3's plug covers are designed to pivot, only the right side can swing under the plate properly; the left side does not. Also, the portion of the L-bracket that goes up the side of the camera is really fat to make space for plugs. It would have been better if this was a two-piece design so that it is not always taking so much space (e.g., for storage in my bag). The fat side and the inability to swing out the left cover on the side is the reason for 4-stars rather than 5-stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely easier than a straight plate This L Plate is easier to use than any other L Plate we have tried. And as far as using an L Plate, the concept makes going from landscape to portrait is so much easier, quicker and keeps the center of focus where you want it. I wish this L plate could be a little thinner or closer to the camera body than it is, thus the 4 stars rather than 5. It is beautifully machined and finished and yes, I can use the shutter release cable without moving the plate! The bonus is that I can still have a hand strap attached at all times. It does add a tiny bit of weight to the camera body, but not enough to make it unusable. The added size, particularly to the left side of the camera body does make it harder to fit into some bags, however again, this is a minor inconvenience for a great tool.
