The Luxbanx Duo Small Rectangular Softbox from Impact is a versatile 16 x 22" light-shaping tool for strobe, LED, and fluorescent lights. It has a heat-resistant, textured-silver interior so you can use it with quartz lights up to 750W. When using the Luxbanx Duo with strobes, attach the front diffuser and inner baffle for maximum softening of the output. When using it with hot lights, the inner baffle should be removed. Open face lights can be used as is, but it's recommended that you use the flood setting rather than spot on Fresnel sources. The softbox has four forward-opening vents to dissipate heat. Removing the front and inner diffuser essentially turns the Luxbanx Duo into a large reflector with maximum brightness and contrast.

Impact Duo Small Rectangular Overview

The Luxbanx Duo Small Rectangular Softbox from Impact is a versatile 16 x 22" light-shaping tool for strobe, LED, and fluorescent lights. It has a heat-resistant, textured-silver interior so you can use it with quartz lights up to 750W. When using the Luxbanx Duo with strobes, attach the front diffuser and inner baffle for maximum softening of the output. When using it with hot lights, the inner baffle should be removed. Open face lights can be used as is, but it's recommended that you use the flood setting rather than spot on Fresnel sources. The softbox has four forward-opening vents to dissipate heat. Removing the front and inner diffuser essentially turns the Luxbanx Duo into a large reflector with maximum brightness and contrast.

For additional control, the versatile Luxbanx Duo has an optional fabric grid which mounts to the recessed lip of the softbox with touch-fasteners. The grid narrows and concentrates the light's beam forward, controlling spill light and adding directional control to the Luxbanx Duo's attributes. The shape and size of the softbox make it ideal for fill-lighting, hair-lighting, table top and small object photography, or run-and-gun video. Every Luxbanx comes with a carrying case and a spare Flex Rod. Separate purchase of a speed ring that accommodates your light's mount is required for use. Softbox well constructed, rods a bit weak

I needed softboxes in this particular size to coordinate with some polarizing gel, and these do the trick; the fabric seems relatively durable, light quality is fine. The interior rods are a bit flimsy and seem to deform easily (one is noticeably bent after just two uses). The manufacturer seems to have anticipated this, as they ship with a spare rod, but if you're going to be assembling/disassembling them a lot, these may not be the right softboxes for you.

Chimera option

You're looking at a Luxbanx as a option to a Chimera. Let's compare: When you pack the Luxbanx it takes more space. A Chimera uses material that is lighter, doesn't mean the Luxbanx is better, just that a Luxbanx is more difficult to operate (ie: install/store). The Luxbanx can be a struggle to work with - not as well constructed. However, when you use one along side a Chimera you can't see the difference - you will feel the difference in your wallet.

According to the manufacturer, this softbox will only work with lights that have a removable speed ring such as those made for strobes or tungsten fixture.

Yes, the Impact Luxbanx Duo Small Rectangular Softbox (16 x 22 ) may be used with Canon or Nikon full-sized hot shoe flashes with the use of a compatible speed ring, such as either the Photoflex Adjustable Rotating ShoeMount System, B&H # PHRSMS, or the Chimera Speed Ring for Canon and Nikon, B&H # CHSRC540EZ. While Impact does not list the collapsed dimensions of the Impact Luxbanx Duo Small Rectangular Softbox, we have the shipping dimensions listed as 20.20 in x 9.30 in x 0.90 in (L x W x H), so the unit's collapsed dimensions should be slightly smaller than the aforementioned shipping dimensions.

What size is the opening on the back? I have a Videssence fluorescent lamp measuring approximately 9 H x 5.5 W -- will it fit?

The opening is large enough to fit a speed ring which is has a diameter of 7.5 . Unfortunately, it would not fit your Videssence lamp.
