    ASUS VS239H-P reviews

VS239H-P 23" LED Backlit Widescreen Monitor is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Pretty good monitors I am using 3 of these monitors for graphic design, 3d modeling, video editing, and gaming on the side. The good: For the price these IPS monitors are great. The picture is good and it looks pretty good for whatever application I am using. The bad: I have noticed back light bleeding with each of them, especially when the screen is dark. I guess it was to be expected for the price. Also, when looking from bad angles from the sides, I noticed a bluish tint to them, not a big deal since I only notice it from those bad angles.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good balance of monitor qualities This is my first IPS display at home (had one at work, but honestly it was an aging Dell that had CCFL backlight, and it didn't seem that impressive). I was deciding between this and the Dell U2312H. This display has a great balance. I don't like to pay a lot, and this one is really reasonable. The screen is not glossy; the matte finish means I don't have to look at reflections all day. As you'd expect from IPS, the viewing angles are great, and the colors are noticeably better than my Samsung TN panel. The upgrade is subtle though, after a few days, I don't really notice it anymore until I switch back. Just remember, the stand is really poor - it is two inches tall. It is not possible for 90% of desk and person configurations to set it up ergonomically without some kind of stand or propping it on some harry potter books. One other CON: it flashes blue with No HDMI Signal when I put my computer to sleep. I wish it were less blinding when I'm about to go to bed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Budget monitor for photo editing I recently built a computer that is mainly being used for photo and video editing. I am not a pro but just your average amateur that enjoys the hobby. So far I have been very please with the monitor. Much better than the laptop I had been using. Colors look good and I did adjust the settings with a Spyder 3. I was on a pretty tight budget and his is a good value for the money. You are not going to be able to adjust the height, etc. It does sit pretty low. I am hoping in the future to go with a dual monitor so I will be adding a seperate mount then.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great monitor, especially for the price I have it connected as the primary display for my home desktop computer. It works great! I am not particularly apt at discerning between two very similar shades of colors, but even so I think this monitor has great colors and brightness. I'm not a heavy gamer, but I do enjoy playing computer games that can be visually intense and so far I have no complaints with the display. My only qualm is that the stand is a little wobbly. I have it sitting on my desk and if I bump the monitor or try to move it, the screen wobbles side to side for a few seconds.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's just okay. I purchased this monitor to replace my 6 year old Dell E207WFP. The Dell still worked, but I wanted a little more real estate and a sharper and clearer display. The Asus had good reviews and a reasonable price with a $ rebate.Out of the box, the Asus was blazingly bright (too bright) and the colors vivid. It was very easy to setup and the panel itself was half the weight of my 20 Dell. The first thing that I noticed is that it is wobbly on the stand. Not to the point of instability, it just moves a lot when the buttons are operated. The IPS viewing angle is great. Though even with the matte screen, it has more reflected glare than my Dell.I use Adobe Lightroom, so I needed to check the color calibration on the Asus. The color balance, out of the box, is terrible. The Splendid feature on the monitor provides multiple preset choices and some of those presets allow for custom Color Temperatures settings. I checked all of the presets with the Eye-One-Match and they were all really off. Scenery Mode allows for the most adjustments, but it only provides a Gamma of 2.0 (not adjustable). There is no Gamma adjustment for this monitor. I finally settled on using Standard Mode. This mode produces a Gamma of 2.2. It took a bit of effort to calibrate this monitor to a color temperature of 6500K. I've checked the calibration a few times since I had it and it drifts a bit. But, in all fairness, I've only had it a few weeks, so it may settle down in time.Besides being a bit sharper, brighter and having a better viewing angle than my Dell, it's not that much of an improvement. Based on that, I decided to keep the Dell and mount both monitors on a dual Vesa desk mount. If you're not into photo editing, this monitor is fine. Last thing, I had green fringing around small text. I was able to fix that by adjusting the Trace Free setting to 60. My current settings:Standard Mode 6500K settingsBrightness - 80R - 75G - 63B - 71

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a good product After much research I decided upon the Asus VS239H-P. IPS panel for accurate color and good definition, and price sold me. Initially I was looking at 24 monitors and they were a little too expensive. The rebate ? Turns out the rebate is not cash but a credit card that must be used - and 1 4-6 week waiting period.I ran a black screen and then a white screenNo dead pixels. Much better if they simplify this and either give a cash refund or deduct the rebate from the start. I'm really enjoying this monitor. I work in video and graphics and sound.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent but backlight bleed is bad As the title says, the backlight bleed of this monitor is quite bad, and apparently it's normal in this monitor. If you can get over glowy, silvery blacks in the corners of an IPS monitor then this monitor is the one for you. It's cheap, Matte finish, and colors are great, just the backlight bleed is horrendous and very distracting for me.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Persistent Wobble and Poor Calibration Persistent wobble, poor out-the-box calibration, and lack of intuitive controls will be frustrating for many. The Asus VS239H-P monitor is marketed as a budget-friendly IPS (in-plane switching) monitor. For those who work with hex/rgb colors on a regular basis or are in the graphic design field, an IPS monitor should offer a welcome alternative to old TN panel technology due to its considerably better color rendition and viewing angles that do not distort (or only minimally distort) the appearance of colors. If you're considering the Asus VS239H-P, be aware of the following: 1) The base does not fit snugly into the monitor, which means that the slightest vibration or touching of the monitor (including pushing the power switch on and off) causes it to shake. This appears to be a design defect. My personal experience aside, the VS239H-P problem has also been widely reported all over the internet (if you do a Google search for Asus VS239H-P wobbly you'll see what I mean). After an hour of constant shaking you'll be running for your old 25 lb. Dell 1704 FPT. 2) The monitor is pretty much unusable out of the box and needs to be extensively calibrated, which is not an easy task for the VS239H-P. 3) The VS239H-P can be calibrated using the 5 buttons located under the bottom right of the monitor. However, these controls are not intuitive and there is no guide that tells you how to use them. Accordingly, you have to keep trying until you figure out which button does what. Also, be aware that you will likely have to use a separate calibration software program to get the colors right.
