Upgrade the audio quality in your video productions by switching from the built-in mic on your camera to the Sennheiser MKE 600 battery- or phantom-powered shotgun microphone. Its focused directional characteristics and resistance to structure-borne noise offer sonic results well suited to a variety of production scenarios from independent films and web series to nature shows and documentaries.

The MKE 600's high sensitivity and low-noise circuitry unlock improved sound quality without extreme gain on noisy camera preamps. With a natural roll-off at 40 Hz and a selectable low-cut filter at 100 Hz, the MKE 600 can deliver clear intelligibility while attenuating low-frequency noise such as rumble. Plus, its frequency response incorporates a gentle rise in treble to enhance speech clarity.

The lightweight and durable metal housing ensures reliable toughness without weighing down your rig. The included shoe shockmount accommodates mounting the MKE 600 to a camera or tripod. Connect the mic's XLR output to an XLR-equipped mic preamp or use the supplied adapter cable to plug it into the 3.5mm mic input on a camera.

Quality Sound

The 10" long MKE 600 uses an interference tube and a supercardioid/lobar polar pattern to provide pronounced directivity on-axis along with significant attenuation of sound entering at the sides and rear, making the MKE 600 far more effective at capturing distant sources than the omnidirectional mics found in most cameras.

Bass Roll-Off

The MKE 600 naturally reduces sub-bass frequencies below 40 Hz to prevent unnatural bass buildup. Activate the switchable low-cut filter at 100 Hz to roll off more low-frequency noise from common sources such as air conditioners and traffic.

Battery or Phantom Powered

Thanks to its 3-pin XLR output and compliance with 48 VDC phantom powering, the MKE 600 is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters, as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

When using devices that don't offer phantom power, the MKE 600 may be powered for up to 150 hours by a single AA battery (included). Approximately 8 hours of operating time remain once the low-battery indicator lights up red. Use the on/off switch to prevent unnecessary battery drain.

Ideal for Camera, Tripod, or Boompole Mounting

The MKE 600 includes a shoe shockmount for easy placement on your camera or a tripod. To mount the MKE 600 on a boompole or mic stand, use the Rycote InVision INV-HG mkIII shockmount (available separately), which will also impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole/stand and the mic.

XLR to 3.5mm TRS Adapter Cable for Cameras

Included with a MKE 600 is a short coiled adapter cable—XLR female to 3.5mm TRS male—that lets you connect the mic directly into a mini-jack mic input on a camera.

Windscreen Minimizes Wind Noise

The MKE 600 has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners by up to 25 dB. Enhanced attenuation of wind noise is possible with the addition of an optional windshield such as the Rycote 15cm Super-Softie, which also provides high immunity to rain.

For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider a complete windjammer, windshield, and shockmount suspension system such as the Rycote Super-Blimp NTG or the large Rycote Super-Shield Kit (both available separately).

Sennheiser MKE 600 Reviews

MKE 600 Wow!

After trying several cheaper high impedance shotgun mics I finally got the MKE-600 and do not regret it for a moment. It sends a stronger signal that is clean and has a wonderful tone for voice recording. This is the perfect mic for independent productions and ups our game without breaking the bank. B&H shipped it extra fast and the price was comparable to a certain large online seller.

Great for run and gun

It's a perfect mic for run and fun shoots. No need to be powered as it has a battery slot. I use in on the Komodo and the quality of the Sennheiser as you would think will not disappoint you.

Great Sound Quality, but Gain Hungry

By Omar

I ordered this microphone primarily for recording dialogue in educational videos as part of my job. I couldn't quite afford the 416 as it is about 3x the price, but I knew I wanted something with a similar sound profile and directionality. The mic is a standard shotgun microphone, so it is very directional, and does a great job of rejecting off-axis noise. For its price-point, it is very low-noise, and has a great sound profile for dialogue. Rich and clear low end, with a bright treble and no harshness. The only problem with this microphone is that it is extremely gain hungry, and needs to be as close to your sound source as possible. This can be difficult to achieve for anything other than talking head type shots where your speaker is occupying most of the frame, and you can have the mic boomed just out of frame around 12 inches away from the mouth. With this positioning, on my Audient iD14 interface I have to drive the pre-amps at about the 2 o'clock position to get a decent amount of gain (peaks at -20 dB, and averaging around -30 to -25 dB). I'm not sure if my unit is simply defective, or if this is par for the course so it would be great if BH Photo Video could comment on this. Other than this quirk, I do find that the microphone has an adequate quality of sound for my purposes. However, the limitations of positioning due to how much gain it needs makes it a bit inconvenient.

I have purchased two of these and am very impressed with the quality that you get for the price. I use them mostly as a boom mic for interviews.

This mic feels premium and I definitely love the directions of sounds that it perceives. Muffled from the back, sides are low and focuses on the action ahead. Definitely recommend.

I love this mic! I have used it multiple times at work for on-the-run shooting and it has been great. The other day I decided to use it for a livestream and it still worked just fine. So long as you have an audio interface, you're good. I'm very happy with my purchase!

These are great mics. Very nice build and sound quality for the money, and I've purchased and used several of these over the years. This time I was building out some kits to use as on-board ambient audio and/or man on the street interview mics for a pair of C200 cinema cameras.

Amazing at a Low Price

Sennheiser mics are great, and this shotgun mic is no exception. Records great quality audio for interviews at a relatively low price. Comes with a carrying case, foam cover, and hot-shoe clip for mounting on top of a camera for run-and-gun shoots. Great audio setup without breaking the bank.
