Nikon 7548 overview

  • 1Description

Nikon's 8x42 Monarch 7 ATB Binocular is outfitted with anti-reflection, fully multi-coated, extra-low dispersion glass elements and highly reflective dielectric-coated and phase-corrected roof prisms, to produce bright and clear high-contrast images with accurate color rendition and minimal color fringing across the entire field of view. Its 8x magnification brings subjects up close, without sacrificing the field of view or exit pupil, or the noticeable hand shake often associated with higher power optics, while the 42mm objectives boost its light-gathering ability to improve views in challenging light such as during the pre-dawn and late evening hours or in foggy and cloudy weather. With the combination of spacious field of view; glass, prism, and optical coatings; and long eye relief, users can enjoy a comfortable and immersive observational experience in most lighting conditions.

Complementing the optical performance are construction details that make this binocular durable and comfortable to use. It has a lightweight and durable reinforced polycarbonate ATB chassis and is protected by rubberized armor that is accented with indented palm rests to give it a secure non-slip grip. The optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature variations and environmental conditions. A one-piece ocular rainguard covers the eyecups as the binocular hangs around the neck and prevents rain and spraying water from filling them, and the objective lens caps are also tethered to keep them safe from being lost on the forest floor. The exterior lens surfaces are treated with a clear armor coating that helps to prevent scratches and abrasions, while allowing dirt, debris, oils, and saps to be more easily cleaned off without leaving residues.

Optical Performance
  • 8x power magnifies objects without sacrificing field of view or exit pupil
  • 42mm objective lenses improve light-gathering ability without adding excessive bulk or weight
  • Roof prism light path ensures optical tubes remain thin for a compact form factor
  • Extra low-dispersion glass reduces chromatic and spherical aberrations for increased contrast, improved color rendition, and sharpness without distortion across the entire field of view
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve light transmission, contrast, and resolution
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics maximize light transmission across the entire visible spectrum for accurate color rendition and improved contrast and clarity
  • Highly reflective dielectric prism multi-layer coatings boost internal reflection to >99% to maintain image brightness and improve contrast and clarity
  • Apparent angle of view approaches wide-angle to provide an immersive observational experience
  • 420' field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Closed-bridge configuration provides a solid and stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large slip center focus wheel allows for precise focus control, even while wearing gloves
  • Right eye dioptric adjustment collar helps to compensate for individual eye prescription
  • 56-72mm interpupillary distance range allows easy use by a wide variety of people
  • Twist-up/click-stop rubber eyecups for use with or without eyewear
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use
  • Long 17.1mm eye relief helps to reduce eyestrain and improves viewing comfort
  • Wide 5.25mm exit pupil will completely cover most pupils as they open and dilate in low light to keep the full scene in view
Construction Details
  • Environmentally friendly Eco-Glass is made without lead or arsenic
  • Protective lens coating on external surfaces to prevent scratches and abrasions, and to make cleaning them easier without leaving residues behind
  • Lightweight and durable fiberglass-reinforced polycarbonate chassis
  • Chassis material is temperature resistant, preventing the expansion and contraction that is common with metal, which can cause the optical components to move out of alignment over time and prevent sharp focus
  • Textured protective rubber armoring provides a slip-resistant grip, especially in cold and wet weather
  • Indents on the sides of the optical tubes are ergonomically placed where the hands naturally fall for a more comfortable feel in the hand and a more secure grip
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and submersible to 3.3' (1m) for up to 10 minutes and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes and environmental conditions
  • Black coloring allows it to remain inconspicuous in all environments
  • One-piece tethered ocular rainguard protects eyecups from water pooling in them from rain or spraying water when hanging from the neck
  • Tethered fold-down objective lens caps prevents losing them during observation sessions
  • Weight: 23 ounces

    Nikon 7548 reviews

8x42 Monarch 7 ATB Binocular (Black) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from With respect to the eyepiece cover... I want to start out by responding to concerns over the loose fit of the eyepiece cover...I'm convinced people aren't using the cover properly. Yes, if you just place the cover over the eyepiece it will fall off. No question. But that's not how it is intended to be used. You must run the neckstrap through slots in the cover and allow it to remain attached. When you do this and then cover the eyepiece, enough tension is created to keep the cover in place. It's not super tight, but it's sufficient to keep the cover in place while still allowing for easy, quick removal. I love the binoculars. Great with glasses. Very bright optics.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for the buck! I needed a pair of eight power binoculars for birding. I have a pair of Swarovski 10x42 that I use for hawk watching. I love them, but they are too powerful for close range and I didn't want to spend another $ on a pair of binoculars. The quality of the Monarch 7 is fantastic. Lots of eye relief ( I wear glasses) and good field of view that makes it easy to get on your bird on the first try. Edge to edge clarity is surprisingly clear for a medium range pair of binoculars. Low light viewing is very good. They feel good in your hands thanks to the armor coating. If you are looking for a great pair of binoculars that doesn't break the bank then this is the pair for you.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Birding I used these binos on a birding trip to Costa Rica and love them. They are a little better than my Monarch 5's and give a greater field of view. They have a lifetime warranty. The attached lens covers are better than the 5, a great improvement. The removable dust cover for the eye piece is not very handy and I do not use it. I use a harness by lock down that protects the lens from rain and damage. I recommend them to go with these binos. The Monarch 5's are very good as well and you have to decide if the extra expense is worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic quality I'm no professional photographer but I wanted to get some good wildlife pictures in Yellowstone NP in September 2015. I bought a pair of Nikon Monarch 7 8X42 Binoculars, the Carson Hookupz and a Nikon BINOC-U-MOUNT to hold the binoculars steady on my tripod. Your iPhone 6 Plus can then zoom on the binocular image which makes it virtually distortion free. You'll have to fidget with it a little to get it fixed on the subject and also be sure your tripod is steady in windy conditions. For the money, I was very pleased with the quality of zoom photos and HD videos at 300+ yards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding birding binoculars The Monarch 7, 8x42, will replace my 25 year-old Swift binoculars. I had read various reviews that recommended the Nikon Monarch 7, so I ordered one and am very pleased with my purchase. The roof prism binoculars are light and much more compact than the porro prisms. The focus wheel is easy to turn. When focusing the roof prisms, your hands are closer together than when using the porro prism, and may taken some getting used to for those with larger hands. The brilliant image is better than my expectations. The eye relief cups have several click stops and are soft on your glasses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great field of view These binos have a wider field of view than my monarch 5's which makes it easier to follow and find birds. They are great, very clear and bright. The warranty is lifetime if you buy them from b and h photo. Wherever you buy Nikon binos be sure they include the Nikon warranty as some dealers sell at lower price but without the Nikon warranty. The 5's are also very good and if you are on a budget the extra $$may not be worth it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for birding! My 30-year-old Swift Audubon binoculars could no longer be repaired, so something new was needed. I reviewed several articles and decided to try the 8x42 Nikon Monarch 7. It took a few days to get used to the roof prism feel and position of the focusing ring, but now I love these binoculars. The colors are brilliant. I wear glasses and the adjustable eyecups work very well to give me the wide view needed to follow birds. The weight is reasonable and the feel is substantial. The ocular lens covers only fit tight when the binoculars are in their collapsed position, so I secured them to the strap with a narrow black ribbon. These easily replaced my old Classics and I feel they will provide many years of enjoyable birding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Nikon scores very well against tough competition I bought a pair of the 8X42 Monarch 7's some time back and have been pleased with them. When the opportunity (i.e. a monetary windfall) arose to get the best binoculars, I compared them to top-of-the-line Leica and Swarovski models. Basic result: the Monarch 7 stands up very well indeed against both, delivering something like 90-95% of the performance (my subjective judgment) for about 20-25% of the cost. Can you see a difference from the $2000+ super-binocs? Yes. The Nikon's contrast does not hold up as well when looking near (not right at) a bright source of light. The center-to-edge sharpness is not quite as good, going about 3/4 of the way to the edge before I see some softening, compared to the Swarovski never showing any softening. The Nikon has a bit more rectilinear distortion than the Swarovski and less (!) than the Leica. The Nikon also has that 8 degree field of view, which is better than either the Swarovski 7.6 degrees or the Leica 7.4 degrees. In practical use, most of the time you aren't going to notice much if any difference between the Nikon and its more-expensive competitors. Did I succumb to temptation and buy the Swarovski? Yes, but I have kept the Monarch 7's as well, and don't intend to let go of them.
