Nikon 26315B Overview

  • 1Description

Passport? Check. Ten-language phrase book? Check. Nikon S9300 camera? Triple-check. Nikon's Coolpix S9300 Digital Camera (Black) was born to travel--with you. A 16MP CMOS sensor and a sharp 18x Nikkor 25-450mm (equivalent in 35mm format) in a tiny (2.5x4.3x1.3"/6.2x10.8x3.06cm) and featherweight (7.6 oz/214g) body = the ultimate compact travel camera.

The CMOS sensor gives you greatly improved low-light performance and reduced noise, and the 25-450mm lens can easily handle any situation you encounter, from ultra wide-angle landscape to portraits to unapproachable wildlife. Optical VR image stabilization keeps your photos rock solid, without any shaking or blurring, even using the longest telephoto settings, or in low-light, slow shutter speed situations. The high-resolution 921K-dot 3" monitor is crisp and clear, for composing and reviewing your images. Dazzling full 1080p HD video with stereo sound will bring your memories back in pristine condition (you can even take a still photo while shooting video). And the S9300 knows how to turn even dicey lighting situations into great images, with modes like Night Landscape, Night Portrait, and Backlighting HDR. A built-in neutral density filter gives you even greater latitude in daylight shooting.

Built-in GPS records your shooting locations and tracks the route you take. A map displays your current location while shooting, plus Points of Interest (POI) locations--an electronic compass displays the camera's orientation when the photo was taken and records the location for viewing later on your computer.

17 Scene modes provide optimal settings for common photographic subjects. In-camera processing offers you lots of creative choices without using image-processing software: filter effects like Nostalgic Sepia; High-Contrast Monochrome; Selective Color; High Key; Low Key; and Soft Effect; the ability to crop and re-size photos in-camera; D-Lighting for improving high-contrast scenes; and skin softening for improved portraits. The EXPEED C2 processor delivers improved image quality and processing speed. So, wherever you go with the S9300, there you are--ready to bring back great images, no matter what the conditions.

Power and Portability
Power and portability blend perfectly into the COOLPIX S9300. Photograph everything from the nightlife in Cancun to the vibrant details of a flower market with the S9300's 18x wide-angle zoom. Create stunning low-light photos without a flash, thanks to its 16.0 megapixel CMOS sensor. Shoot with high-speed framing rates, and record Full HD (1080p) movies at the touch of a button. Plus, built-in GPS provides an accurate and detailed diary of where you've been!
18x Optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED Glass Lens
Explore new horizons with a far-reaching 18x zoom. Zoom in to create a colorful still life display of trinkets and charms inside a covered market, then zoom out and frame a stunning wide-angle sunset. The S9300 boasts an 18x optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens (25-450mm) with optical VR Image Stabilization, which minimizes the chance of blur when shooting photos and movies.
High-Resolution 16.0 MP CMOS Sensor
The S9300's 16.0 megapixel CMOS sensor expertly manages high-resolution imagery, delivering the exceptional image quality you expect from Nikon. Even when shooting in low light, the photos and movies you create will be so vibrant, they'll transport you back to the instant they were created. Nikon's backside-illuminated CMOS sensor technology increases the flow of light to the sensor's surface, thereby yielding improved image quality and reduced noise.
GPS Mapping and Electronic Compass
Bring bragging rights to your next social network post, and prove to your friends where you've been. Track your travels through your photos and movies. With GPS turned on, all your files are instantly geotagged, providing a visual travelogue that pinpoints latitude and longitude. Integrate your geotagged photo and movie files with Nikon's my Picturetown photo sharing site, Google Earth and Nikon ViewNX 2.
Full HD (1080p) Movies--18x Zoom, Continuous Autofocus and Stereo Sound
Recall the sights and sounds of the nightlife in Cancun or the unique mood of a rain forest. With a single touch of a button, record Full HD (1080p) movies with stereo sound. Continuous autofocus keeps your moving subject in focus, and the S9300's full 18x optical zoom range with two-speed control is available during movie recording. Vary the mood by adding in-camera Special Effects, or capture slow- or fast-motion movies. Then watch your movies on an HDTV via the built-in HDMI port.
Get Creative With In-Camera Effects
Add your personal touch to everything you capture. Apply in-camera special effects such as Low Key, High Key, Nostalgic Sepia, even Selective Color, and put a little variety into images and movies. Bring new creative looks to still images by applying a filter effect like Fisheye or Miniature. The best part: you can instantly share your creations with fellow travelers as they gather around the S9300's large, high-resolution 3.0-in. LCD monitor.
High-Speed Shooting
When your subject is fast-action, you need a camera that can keep up. The S9300 can capture up to 7 shots in approximately one second. That once-in-a-lifetime moment will be captured forever.
Easy Panorama Mode
Creating expansive panoramic photos has never been easier. Easy Panorama Mode combines multiple shots into a seamless 180° or 360° panoramic image. Begin by focusing on your starting point, then simply pan across the scene. Once the S9300 detects your direction, the shooting starts and the images begin stitching together in-camera.
Brilliant Framing and Sharing
Frame and share your photos and movies on the large 3.0-in. LCD monitor. The ultra-high-resolution monitor features 921,000 dots that show every detail to precision.
A Wider Tonal Range
Make your images go from great to dazzling. Gain increased tonal range with the S9300's built-in Backlight HDR Mode, or romance colors from an opulent sunset by selecting Night Landscape Mode.

    Nikon 26315B Reviews

Coolpix S9300 Digital Camera (Black) is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 68.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still a Nikon photographer Things that are great: Macromode (closeups) Outdoor shots Zoom (18x, wow) for a pocket-size camera 16MB, lot's of image data/quality Great color The location of the USB connection port GEO tagging is nice 1080p with OK image stabilization (for a camera); but not as good as a camcorder with OIS You can zoom and re-focus while recording video (not all cameras do that) Easy to use menu system Things that aren't so great: Red-eye with flashes, understandable though, the flash is so close to the lense Size, it's bordering on being too big to carry around, but it's still small enough that I purchased it (and carry it with me) Flash pops up where some people but their left index finger (it's a little annoying but not a show stopper) GEO tagging was turned off initially (silly)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Up to Nikon standards Bought the camera for vacation travel when I don't want to carry my DSLR. The telephoto zoom is great for this compact camera. Several nice features such as panorama without stitching, in camera HDR. The lack of external battery charger is a hassle and inconvenient. Battery has to be charged in camera with provided charger. The manual is not a printed document but a DVD which is also inconvenient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best point and shoot out there I like to carry a camera in a pocket. None of the fully featured point an shoots accommodate that. (At least not until the last couple of weeks.) The S9300 does fit without giving up any features other than full HDR support. It does offer a sort of compromise HDR. It even has features that many high end point and shoots do not deliver. For example GPS and compass. The 16 Megapixels and the 4.5 - 81 mm lense are increduible. Yes, I know others are offering similar capabilities, but from my personal experience Nikon was first to the table. The controls are straight forward. I only had to peek at the manual a couple of times. I have not put the S9300 through the normal technical testing, but from the images taken thus far, I do not anticipate any issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera! The one thing I don't like about the camera is the flash placement. The flash pops up when needed, but that is also the most natural spot for my left hand placement when holding the camera. It just takes a little adjusting, but it's definitely not the most natural or comfortable positioning. The overall camera though is great! It's very user friendly and the quality of the pictures are amazing! I usually use my SLR for pictures, but this camera is a great pocket sized alternative when I don't want to bring my large SLR. I'm very pleased!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything and more than expected In one on one shooting against a digital SLR, the Coolpix S9300 stood its own most of the time and on a couple of occasions excelled at capturing distant skyscrapers. The camera is perfect for traveling with light weight, excellent zoom, and great color. I took a lot of pictures in a major city and could not be happier!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More than meets than eye neat nikon! This Nikon has a lot to offer for its price. I can take a photo and then crop it, adjust it - edit it how i want all on the camera. The panorama effect is brilliant and the zoom & focus of this little black cam is incrediblely clear. Only negative about this camera is contrasting lightness - example if taking a photo of skyscrapers - the sky's details lack, but i was already informed about this camera isnt ideal for low light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceeded expectations I can't believe the progress Point & Shoot cameras have made. Picture quality in low light is very respectable, and excellent in good light. White balance is very good even in artificial lighting. This camera focuses quickly and reliably. There is no lag when taking the picture. The auto face recognition is amusing to see at work and it's quite amazing to see how well it works. The camera is light, compact and the zoom coverage is great. Optical quality is outstanding considering the versatility of a zoom with such range. Image stabilization is all you expect from Nikon: very efficient. The lens is a bit slow but that's the unavoidable price to pay for the zoom range, so I don't hold it against Nikon. It's not any slower than comparable cameras from the competition. Still there are a few negatives: no RAW picture format is one of them (the comparable Fuji has it), also very little or clumsy control of exposure (aperture, shutter speed and ISO), advanced features require digging in the menus. Considering that this camera is a gift for my daughter and she'd never use any of these more advanced features, it is the perfect camera for her. But that camera would be flawless if Nikon had pushed the bar a bit higher.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC When I was trying to decide on a camera I was looking at both the Nikon S9300 and the Canon SX260. The cameras were pretty much evenly paired what ultimately made me decide to go for the Nikon was the cheaper price tag but boy am I GLAD I did. First off the reviews that I looked at were not kidding when they said this camera takes GREAT low light picture. I took a picture in complete blackness with the flash and it came out looking like it was sunset ... just FANTASTIC. Then the zoom. I can't even say enough about the zoom ... no need to worry about trying to get up close enough to get the shot you want anymore. You could be twenty feet away and this camera would make it look like you were standing in front of your subject. The one thing that I do find lacking which I was already aware of by reading other reviews is the battery life. I don't even think it lasted the full 210 pictures before it needed recharging. I also don't like the fact that the charger is not external and that the camera is needed to charge the battery. This makes it a little difficult to have a spare battery on the ready. Overall though I am COMPLETE THRILLED with the camera ... it takes absolutely AMAZING picture. You won't be disappointed and B&H Photo is DEFINITELY the place to buy it. Excellent customer service and unbeatable prices. I will definitely be back.
