Nikon 26329B overview

  • 1Description

The Nikon COOLPIX P510 Digital Camera (Black) offers a massive telephoto zoom range, starting quite wide at 24mm and telescoping 42x to 1000mm (35mm equivalent focal lengths). This range will enable you to shoot comfortably in tight indoor spaces and capture wide landscapes, while giving you the long reach to capture wildlife, sporting events, and much more. Throw in its special Smart Portrait mode and Easy Panorama (360° & 180°) modes, and the P510 makes a breeze of pretty much every type of shooting.

That powerful Nikkor lens is backed by a 16.1 Mp sensor that will capture all the detail that the glass can collect. Its undeniable versatility makes the P510 a bridge between standard point-and-shoot models and higher-end interchangeable-lens models. With its comfortable side grip and tilting 3" LCD monitor, the camera allows you to operate confidently and comfortably handheld and at low and high angles.

With its massive telephoto reach, you'll be well-served capturing aerial and terrestrial beasts from afar – and with the P510's integrated GPS you'll be able to record your shooting location; the camera's geo-tagging function serves as something of an automated travelogue. If still photography's not enough for your expedition, the camera captures Full HD 1920 x 1080p video with stereo audio.

Back-Illuminated CMOS Image Sensor Helps Realize High Image Quality
With 16.1 effective megapixels of pure imaging power, the camera captures the high-resolution images you desire. Continuous shooting and compositing capabilities of the backside-illumination CMOS image sensor optimize performance when shooting at night or in dark indoor environments, delivering beautiful results and reproducing the finest details
42x Optical Zoom & Highly Advanced VR Image Stabilization
The 42x zoom Nikkor ED glass lens for the COOLPIX P510 features phenomenal focal range coverage of 24mm wide-angle to 1000mm super-telephoto (35mm format equivalent). At that focal length, Vibration Reduction (VR) image-stabilization technology certainly comes in handy, minimizing the blur caused by camera shake and delivering sharp images. Advanced VR is critical to aid in achieving consistently sharp results, particularly when taking advantage of the super-zoom or for macro photography
3" Vari-Angle LCD Display
The 3" vari-angle, 921k-dot (approx.) high-resolution Clear Color Display offers versatile reach and range. Featuring an anti-reflection coating to minimize glare at any angle, the display tilts as much as 90° (approx.) upward or 82° (approx.) downward
GPS Geo-Tagging & Logging Function
A high-performance GPS system records longitude & latitude location data for each shot, and you can also log your movement even when you're not taking pictures. Add a new dimension to photographic fun with geo-tagging! Track your progress as you explore, and record the location of that great image. There's also an electronic compass to record the camera's orientation, so you can later view the direction (along with location data) for each shot
Full HD 1080p Movie Recording
Record Full HD (1080p) movies with stereo sound at the touch of a button, and even capture still images while you're recording. An HDMI port is built-in for convenient display on almost any HDTV set
High-Speed Continuous Shooting Helps Capture All the Action
The COOLPIX P510 keeps you ahead of the action with high-speed shooting options. High-speed continuous shooting enables rapid capturing at 7 fps (approx.) for full-resolution (4608 x 3456) images (up to five continuous shots). Other high-speed modes include Sports continuous mode (approx. 60 fps / 120 fps) and the Pre-shooting cache
High Sensitivity
High ISO capability helps capture subjects beautifully in low light, without compromising natural light or requiring long exposure time. By enabling the selection of faster shutter speeds, it also makes it easier to capture fast-moving subjects with greater clarity
Optimized Controls & Designed for Efficient Handling
Adding to the flexibility of the vari-angle screen, the camera's handgrip is designed to help minimize camera shake. A side zoom control stabilizes handling
3D Photography
The 3D imaging capability makes it easy to create composite images that achieve realistic playback on 3D-capable TVs and computers
Smart Portrait System
Each of the advanced functions of the Smart Portrait system is designed to help produce consistently great portraits. The system comprises Skin Softening, Face-Priority AF, Smile Timer, Blink Warning, Blink Proof, and In-Camera Red-Eye Fix technologies
20 Scene Modes
20 easy-to-use Scene modes, including Scene Auto Selector, which automatically optimizes camera setting for best results
Motion Detection
Motion detection automatically selects a faster shutter speed and higher ISO (light sensitivity) setting to compensate for subject movement or camera shake
Special Effects
Special effects can be selected prior to shooting. These include Soft Focus, Sepia, High Key, Low Key, High Contrast, and Monochrome. Added for this generation are Silhouette and high-ISO Monochrome effects
Filter Effects
Filter effects can be applied after the still shot has been taken. These include Soft, Selective Color, Cross Screen, Fisheye, Painting, and Miniature
360° & 180° Panorama

    Nikon 26329B reviews

COOLPIX P510 Digital Camera (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 137.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Camera for the price! I love this camera for it's versatility. It can probably do almost anything a DSLR can do, but with the ease of a point-and-shoot and it can act like a DSLR if you use the manual setting option. I don't necessarily need it to stamp my pics with the date, time and GPS location, but for those that might - it does it! I also like the LCD screen that can tilt. Finally I can afford a super camera that has great pixel count and optical zoom count for a reasonable price. I wish the Japanese company did not make it in China. Had to buy a battery charger that goes into a socket, because I did not like to wait 4 hours to recharge a battery INSIDE the camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best yet The Coolpix P510 is my number one tool for gathering resource material for my paintings. Its compact size and light weight makes it an easy traveling companion. The 42x zoom responds and focuses rapidly and records amazing, clear detail of the wildlife that would have been frightened away by close approach to them. The variety of settings covers any possible lighting or subject situation, but the Auto setting is more than adequate for quick, uncomplicated, desirable results; a big plus when in the field. A larger view finder would be nice, but this is, without a doubt, the best camera in its category, that I have used.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Canera, but a couple of Shortcomin After using the camera about 2 months, I can say that for 90% of my shooting situations it is a perfect camera, and it beats the heck out of carring a backpack full of lenses. The telephoto is awsome, I have a frame filling photo of the supermoon last month to prove it. The in-camera crop and save is also a wonderful feature. Now the dislikes: 1.) No provision for attaching filters. I have been able to juryrig a solution to this, but it involves modifying a lens protector and the use of electrical tape, so it is not the best of situations. 2. A very limited apaeture stop down. F/8 is about a small as it will go. And because there is no provision for filters it is not easy to use NDF's. My solution above should allow me to use NDF's now though. 3.) Short battery life. Solution: carry a spare.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Point & Shoot Camera I own a D300 and D7000 with multiple lenses but for casual shooting and never being without a camera the P510 more than meets my needs. Camera is lightweight and quality of construction is good. Picture quality is excellent - focus, exposure, sharpness, color rendition, etc. The fold-out LCD screen is wonderful. The zoom is smooth and really reaches out. There are plenty of mode and menu options that allow one to be creative and enhance the photo. There are a few cons such as long charge time, having to charge the battery in the camera, no hot shoe, and the viewfinder is uncomfortable to use. The quality and features of this camera far outweight the cons. I would recommend it to anyone!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would recommend to my friends I use this camera in any situation where I don't need my D700 gear which is heavy and requires big lens. It takes you a while to get used to the auto focus process, particularly in close-up mode. With a touch of Photoshop you cannot tell which photos come from D700 and which ones from P510. The zoom is huge with 24-1000mm

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a fantastic camera!!! I bought this because I like to shoot wildlife, specifically birds. The need for a telephoto capability is mandatory since one cannot always get close to the subject being photographed. This camera has the equivalent of a 1000mm lens. I took some shots of lighthouses that were a few miles away and the results were extraordinary. This camera is easy to use, has many of the features that a camera 5x the price would cost, and is backed up by the quality and integrity of Nikon and B & H Photo!!! This camera makes me a much better photographer, and I thought I was pretty good before. Thank you Nikon and B & H.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nikon P510 is a Great Camera This camera is a great one to use when a full sized DSLR is too big to tote around. - The viewer DOES have a zoom option to view the pics you took. The online docs state this feature is missing. - The camera has a good focus area, and easily picks up on the primary objects to focus on. - The menus appear on the LCD screen- no tipping the camera over to read the top of the menu wheel! - Biggest zoom (42x) and large image size (16Mp). - Grip is very good- nice rubber feel and easy to modify settings with one hand. This camera is a great option for vacations, cruises, etc... I did not test the video portion. Didn't buy it for that function. I'm a Canon buyer when it comes to cameras, for the past 31 years. This is my first Nikon, and I'm very impressed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All The Camera You Should Ever Need I'm a pro photog and techno geek, so people ask me for advice all the time. A friend was really into the telephoto range but didn't want to schlep tons of equipment so I recommended the Nikon P510. He had one in no time and asked my wife and me to dinner! Well, now wifey saw his camera and reminded me that she always needed more tele too, so back to B&H for another purchase. By the way, B&H refurbs are clean as a whistle - don't ever hesitate to save another 25% or so. In particular, Image Stabilization at extreme telephoto is nothing short of amazing.
