FUJIFILM XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS Overview

Mixing versatility, speed, and a sleek design, the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS from FUJIFILM is a flexible 27-84mm-equivalent standard zoom for X-mount mirrorless cameras. Its bright f/2.8-4 maximum aperture range suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also helps to keep the overall and size and weight of the lens down. Standard zoom is designed for APS-C-format Fujifilm X-mount mirrorless cameras and offers a 27-84mm equivalent focal length range.
One extra-low dispersion element is used to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color fidelity throughout the zoom range.
Three aspherical elements control distortion and spherical aberrations, which helps to improve sharpness and realize more accurate rendering.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
A linear motor autofocus system, coupled with an internal focusing design, delivers smooth, near-silent performance that is especially beneficial to video applications and when working in noise-sensitive areas.
Complemented by an enhanced gyro sensor and unique series of algorithms, the optical stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops to enable sharper imaging when working with longer focal lengths or slower shutter speeds.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out-of-focus quality to benefit the use of selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques.

FUJIFILM XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS Reviews

A better than average kit lens

Given it is not a cheap lens, however, I do love the image and build quality of this lens, If you need a zoom in the 24mm to 75mm (equivalent) this one does a very good job. For its image quality, I would highly recommend this lens at this price point, at least until Tamron, Viltrox, or (ideally) Sigma start offering competitively priced zoom lenses for fuji.

Great versatility, as well as image quality. I use this lens on my Fujifilm X-Pro2.

I returned the first one I bought, it was soft from about one third and out to the edges at pretty much every aperture and focal length. The second one is outstanding! Sharp even at 18 mm wide open, impressive. Bear in mind that any manufacturer can have issues, I've had Leica lenses that weren't up to par. This is an amazingly versatile lens, I love it

Bought this one as a kit years ago with my first Fuji body. Sold it for the 16-55 'brick' as the lack of 16mm was killing me as I love that 16mm perspective. But, the brick is heavy and this together with the 10-24 makes for a much more manageable travel kit. Or an even lighter travel kit if paired with the 14 or 16 f2.8 primes. Rebought it for that purpose as the build and optical quality are outstanding. Its only shortcoming is lack of weather sealing.

Great lens!

Most kit lens have a similar range of focal lengths but are normally slower than this lens. However this lens has outstanding optical qualities and is super small too. For much of my “just walking around photography” I’m quite happy to just use this lens. As usual Fuji takes serious thought on how their lens are built. GREAT PRIDE is what I think of for their entire lens collection. This high lens quality is the PRIMARY REASON I SHOOT FUJI! Consistent customer is also key.

This is an outstanding all-around lens. I have the 14mm and the 23mm as well. Excellent lenses all. But this 18-55mm is a great value as well.

This is the Big Bang for the Buck go-to lens

I bought this lens to go with the Fuji X-Pro2 that I was delightfully surprised to find in the Used department. Should I have selected the 16-55mm instead? A little faster with a wider f-stop to start. But the 18-55mm is more compact, and on the X-Pro2, less weight and less mass is nice. And then there is the price difference between the two lenses. At any rate, the extreme high quality of the images shot with this lens convinced me to buy a few more Fuji lenses such as the 14mm and the 23mm F2 primes. I love those lenses a lot, too. But most of the time, this 18-55mm is my go-to lens. Well, one quibble, perhaps. I wish Fuji had marked the f-stops on the aperature ring like the other lenses. That said, I get all that information in the EVF and LED screen. Alas, I remain hooked on this lens with the X-Pro2. I mean, what's not to love?

Does anyone know which way the focus works on the XF lenses? Does it pull closer to the right like canon lenses or is it the opposite like Nikon, and some Sony lenses?
Asked by: Patrick
You rotate the lens' focusing ring to the left to reduce the focus distance, and rotate the focusing ring to the right to increase the focus distance out to infinity. However, you may go into the menu and go to BUTTON/DIAL SETTING > FOCUS RING to reverse the direction of rotation of the focus ring.
