BG-N4.2 Battery Grip for Nikon D7000 is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Grip for an Excellent Price I received this as a gift and it is a spectacular grip. It does everything as advertised: AE/AF-L button, shutter, command dials, multiselector and even has a lock button to keep from accidentally firing with the shutter on the grip. My biggest complaint is that rather than actually protrude into the battery compartment of the camera and hold two batteries, one battery is in the grip and one in the camera. If you need to change the battery in the camera, the grip has to come completely off, which is a nuisance and takes extra time that could cause you to miss a shot. My only other concern is that it does have a bit of wiggle room that allows it to pull slightly away from the camera on one side.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good, not great I had this for over 2 years now. It works well for most cases, and adds stability with bigger lenses, but: * The multi selector is not accurate - sometimes it works fine, sometimes it acts as if you pressed twice (moves to focus points at a time) * The switch for on-off is a bit stiff * The attachment to the body feels a bit loose I don't know if this is the grips fault or not, but I used it from day one with the original battery in it, and it showed the battery as state 3 of 4 to be quite old. Could be a battery fault, could be the result of some short circuit with the grip. Don't know.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It could be better but This is the second grip I have gone through. I won't buy nikon grips anymore because they just plain stink. This grip is identical for a fraction of the cost. Both OEM and after market grips will fail eventually. The fastening system becomes loose and the coupling between the grip and body suffers with sporadic connection rendering the camera dead. I bought this second grip so I could keep working while I dissect the failing one. The problem is that the internal screws which hold the gears comes loose and need to be tightened for the screw to snug up tight. While this grip is not perfect (and will fail eventually) it's doing the job I need it to. If you can't stand the small size of your camera body then this is an acceptable alternative and is identical to the Nikon grip. Just a quick heads up: If your grip does fail you will notice that you will loose power to the camera body regardless of the battery order. When this happens your view finder will dim out. I am only recommending this because the alternative nikon grip is the same exact thing but pricier. They both are marginal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Durable and worth the price I bought this when my first Meike battery grip failed on me for my D7000. I think the contacts were damaged from the use of a Black Rapid strap and a heavy lens on the camera, it would trigger the shutter, but the 4-way button and AE buttons stopped working. These grips are all plastic, and there is probably a safe weight limit in terms of how much weight it can support from the tripod mount without consequence. The selling point for this one was the 4-way button on the grip. This one is significantly better than the other grips I've seen. With my last one, it was very easy to toggle the button in the wrong direction. This design is much improved. It also feels much more substantial.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality and value for the price! Very well constructed grip. Matches quality of the Nikon camera body. Makes the camera much easier to hold firmly when using a large lens plus the additional controls such as a shutter release button that is perfect for taking vertical images. You'll find that the camera is much better balanced in your hands. If you do video this grip gives you twice the battery reserve when you install a second battery. Once you start shooting with a grip you'll wonder how you ever did without it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good back up I received an earlier model of this battery grip when I bought my camera but it died. I went a couple years without one but a couple times, I forgot to recharge my battery and came close to not finishing what I planned to do. For this price, it allows me to not worry about watching the battery if I forget to charge it. I can go the local store and buy some batteries or have some rechargeable ones in my bag. I only have had it for a couple weeks but so far so good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great battery Grip While it is an outstanding battery holder/life extender, the grip gives me an extra margin of grip safety when I hold my D7000 in one hand - It extends the camera's height and makes it feel like my D3.(Under normal shooting conditions, I do not use a strap. When safety become a factor, elevated POV, flying in an open cockpit, etc., I get 'strapped' in a hurry.)
