Vello RFW-NP overview

  • 1Description

The FreeWave Fusion Pro Wireless Flash Trigger and Remote Control for Nikon DSLRs from Vello is a versatile, reliable remote control kit that will trigger off-camera flash units and studio lights from up to 600' away. It can be used to configure up to three different light groups, which can be triggered individually or simultaneously, for a total of seven different combinations, using its multiple groups feature. Simultaneous triggering of multiple lights requires separate purchase of additional FreeWave Fusion Pro Receivers.

The FreeWave Fusion Pro also provides the convenience of a wireless camera shutter release, ideal for photographing wildlife, and also for macro and close-up photos or long exposures, where the slightest camera movement can ruin a picture. Working on the 2.4 GHz frequency gives you reduced radio interference and an extended range up to 600', and since radio signals pass through obstructions you don't need to position them in line-of-sight. Four RF channels are available to prevent interference from other users.

The FreeWave Fusion Pro is compatible with most cameras, flash units, and studio lights. The transmitter connects to the hot shoe of the camera. In case the hot shoe is needed for another function, the transmitter can alternatively connect to the camera's PC plug via its 3.5mm sync plug (PC cable not included). The transmitter also features a top hot shoe, which fully supports iTTL metering when used with Nikon TTL compatible components. This allows you to keep a TTL flash mounted on top of the camera, while using the transmitter to control off-camera flash units (in manual mode) via radio signal.

Note: Since the FreeWave Fusion Pro does not transmit TTL settings, use of a flash or light unit with full manual control is recommended. You will need to set the power output manually.
The FreeWave Fusion Pro is compatible with most cameras, flash units and studio lights. However, for flash wake-up functionality and/or high shutter speeds, you will need full Canon TTL support via your camera, flash and FreeWave Fusion Pro trigger.
This remote does not provide high-voltage sync protection, and is not recommended for use with flash units that have a trigger voltage of more than 6V.

2.4 GHz Radio Frequency
Reduced interference and improved wireless signal quality.
Extended Range
Range up to 600'.
Use as an individual or group wireless flash trigger, and/or as a shutter release remote trigger.
Multiple Groups
Configure up to three different light groups and up to seven different group combinations.
Flash Sync Speed up to 1/200 sec
Take advantage of sync speeds that match the rating of your camera all the way up to 1/200 sec on compatible cameras.
TTL Pass-Through
The transmitter features a top hot shoe, which fully supports TTL metering when used with TTL compatible components. This pass-through feature allows you to fire both TTL-controlled flash units controlled by the camera and manual units triggered by the transmitter, at the same time.
Flash Wake Up
Simply depress the trigger button on the transmitter half-way to pull the flash out of sleep mode. Sleep mode allows the flash to power down in between shooting sessions to extend battery life. The wake-up function is only available when used as part of a complete Canon TTL system. The wake up function can be switched off for flash units without a sleep mode.
One receiver works with multiple camera and light models. Just swap out the connecting cables.
Dual-Function Shutter Release Button
Press halfway to focus; press fully to trigger shutter.
LED Indicators
Confirm pre-focus, shutter release, flash wake-up, and flash trigger in wireless mode.

    Vello RFW-NP reviews

FreeWave Fusion Pro Wireless Flash Trigger and Remote Control for Nikon DSLRs is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 30.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Couldn't ask for better customer support I wanted to learn how to use flash in manual mode and not have to rely on cables or Nikons infrared transmission system. These units work extremely well, and in addition can be used for radio controlled remote shutter release. They are not the most ruggedly designed products I have ever seen, but with care they appear to be more than adequate for long term use. Now, for customer service: I had an issue with the units working on my D800 but not my D300 body. I received phone calls from a real human being who took a sincere interest in the issue. Eventually, it was discovered, oddly, that fresh batteries solved the problem. This alone is reason to purchase.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't Wast Your Money I've been a commercial photographer for over 40 years. I've used everything! This produce is a piece of @. I own 2 sets. Have sent both back. (They just stop working) Now the first set I sent back stopped working after 7 months. DON'T WASE YOUR MONEY!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Intermittent!! Have only had these for a couple weeks. They seem to work as advertised but I seem to keep getting intermittent shots where the flashes don't go off or they fire to late. I haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing this as of yet. It seems like the transmitter isn't cycling as fast as my camera and flashes do but I'm not sure if that's what's happening. I will try to update with more use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but not Great They work as advertised but are not durable. I take great care of my equipment as my living depends on it. But almost exactly to the date 1 year later the Transmitter dies. It lights up but no signal transmitted. I'd advise getting the 3 year warranty with these. Also wish you could put a transmitter on top of the receiver to fire OCF but it doesn't. The frequency transmitted is not very strong as there are nulls where you can be in certain spots within 5' and it wont fire. Move 1 foot in any direction and it will fire. Could cause you to miss an important shot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Springs go weak. If they stop working try stretching out the battery springs. Other than that they work great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An alternative to Pocket Wizard I am experimenting with multiple flash units and this system remotely triggers the flashes that are off the camera. So far it's working well but I'm still trying to figure it all out. I couldn't justify the Pocket Wizard at this time but these will do what I need and at a lower price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Needed to replace my Quantum TTL setup as they don't make a module for my new D600. I'm using 2 SB800 flashes and have shot with the triggers a few times now. They work awesome and are easy to set. Very happy so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great investment Have had these for 3 years. Never let me down once and I have used them heavily each year. The range is great and don't require line-of-sight. I use rechargable AAA in the receivers and they last a long time.
