Formatt Hitech HT85AMH Overview

The Hitech 85mm Aluminum Modular Filter Holder is a system that will permit you to use numerous filters depending on your needs in order to create the shot you envision. It comes fully assembled to accept three 85mm-wide filters, but can be modified to accommodate fewer filters, or an additional, separately-available polarizer.

This holder is constructed from durable, rigid aluminum for increased stability while still remaining lightweight. A front screw adapter ring is required for attachment directly to the front of the lens.

You can also modify the number of filter slots with your holder; once you decide upon the number of desired slots, included brass nuts can be used to secure everything in place. Additional spacers and screws are also available to further expand the system.

Requires front screw adapter for attaching directly to lens.
Depending on the number of spacers in use, this holder can accommodate one, two, or three filters at a time, plus a polarizer with a separately-available polarizer ring.
Additional spacers can be used to further configure the filter holder to accommodate multiple filters.
Comes fully assembled for general use.

I bought this filter holder to use with all of my Cokin P filters. But after getting the filter holder I found out that my Cokin P 164 polarize filter would not fit into the holder.I did not want to buy a different polarizer just for that filter holder. But all my other P filters fit just fine.

Much better than the plastic one!

Besides the obvious features (adjustable number of stages, aluminium construction, screw-on vs. clip on) here are the 2 main benefits of this holder for me: 1) Glass filters on the stage nearest to the lens sit flush with the holder, no gap. This reduces reflections *a lot* compared to cheap plastic holders that leave a huge gap between the filter and the lens. 2) You can attach the holder to 82mm step rings instead of regular 'Cokin-style' rings. Step rings are usually cheaper but more importantly, this means you can keep a front thread on your lenses with the adapter rings on. This makes it easier to manage lens caps and use round filters like vari-NDs (not at the same time as the holder, of course). FYI if you have Cokin adapter rings already, this holder works fine with them. The only reason I gave this 4 stars: No hood or top flag option! This would turn this holder into a great micro clip-on matte box. The brass screws at the front are begging for a hood/flag attachment! I'm sure it's possible to DIY something but I'd love to see a 'clean' solution.

I bought this to replace my old and trusty Cokin filter holder. The only problem I found so far is when using more than one filter, I need to seal it with gaffer tape. For that reason I now bought the new Firecrest 100mm filter holder from Formatt-hitech.

Great product!

I love how efficient this product is, especially for landscape photography! The only thing I don't like is the mechanics of tightening the filter onto a lens when using an adaptor ring.

question

will this holder accomodate a Singh-Ray sprocket type circular polarizer?
Asked by: william
I don't think so. There are only spaces for flat filters. I don't see anything to hold a round and thick filter, nothing embossed on the bottom to maintain a circular filter as on the Cokin one.

question

I currently use the Lee Seven5 system and with my Sony 16-35 FE is not usable till 19mm. Will i get vignetting at 16mm with the Formatt 85mm system?
Asked by: Charles D.
I'm using this for my Canon 100D with EF-S 10-18mm. at 10mm (equivalent to 16mm for full frame) I'm getting a vignett with the three slots attached on the holder. Simple solution I did was to remove one filter slot to avoid the dreaded vignetting.
