Lowepro 16L AW overview

  • 1Description

The slate gray Photo Hatchback 16L AW Backpack from Lowepro is an excellent choice for a day out in the field, walk along the boardwalk with the family or even a quick down and dirty gig. It's designed to hold your DSLR with an 18-55mm lens attached and two additional moderately sized lenses, flash, accessories as well as your iPad or tablet held safely within its own dedicated compartment. It is also designed to hold your GoPro Hero 3 camera, and accessories.

The "wow" feature of this bag is that it comes with a removable camera box which, when removed, turns the pack into a full-fledged, empty pack that can be used as a daypack. The camera box comes with a storm flap for protection and two handles for easy removal. Load it beforehand, place it in the pack, and you're off. And, on days when you don't need it, just lift it out and the pack is ready for clothes, books, food, jacket or groceries.

Access is via a top loading zippered opening or its very handy side "hatch" for rapid retrieval of your camera when the shot appears. All the zippers are YKK for added durability. The 2.0 lb pack is comfortable with its adjustable backpack straps. This is an outdoor pack that is prepared for all weather eventualities since it contains Lowepro's All-Weather cover that can be rapidly deployed when the weather turns against you. The Photo Hatchback is made from strong 600D polyester and 210D nylon ripstop polyurethane-a combination made for the outdoor enthusiast. It is backed by Lowepro's lifetime warranty.

    Lowepro 16L AW reviews

Photo Hatchback 16L AW Backpack (Slate Gray) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 135.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Laughably small It was included with my 5DMKIV purchase. It's hilarious that whoever thought to bundle the two together thought it was a good idea, but there's no way to fit the camera into this bag unless you remove ALL the separators and not put in a lens. I couldn't fit my EOS M with a 35mm L in this bag which should give you a good idea of how tight the compartment is. I think one could possibly squeeze in a basic DSLR and kit lens or at least the brochure depicts it as so. There's maybe one pro to it which is that for travel the only way to access the camera is through the back and works as a anti-theft measure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I still prefer hiking packs. Got the pack with a camera purchase. I'm surprised at how big the bag is despite being small. The internal compartment can be opened up so the entirety turns into 1 big compartment. This single large compartment houses my Nikon 300mm F/2.8 VR II with TC attached and pro body while still allowing a couple lenses and second half size body to fit in next to it. I'll be using this for wildlife hiking with the previously mentioned setup. I gave it 4 stars because it's not as comfortable as my Hiking packs. It's not a fair comparison but some day I'm hoping a bag maker steps into a properly set up bag for carrying cameras on the trail.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Small but good This backpack is for small kits. I have a T2i and I can only fit a sigma 50-200 f4-5.6 (small lens) and a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 mounted on the body. There is only space for a few additional small items in the camera compartment like a battery. I put a speedlight in the top compartment and other odds in the front section. Even though, it's small, it fits great and securely. I can and do wear it riding bike and it stays in place. It's also easy to access the back panel like the flipside if you leave the waist belt on and just slide the bag around. If you carry minimal gear, this will work. If you have a pro body or large lenses, this just won't work. I like it though and for now, it works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can hold a Canon 70D and two lenses I bought this to use with my Canon 70D with the 18-55mm kit lens. In the padded compartment I can fit the 70D, a 28mm lens, and a 70-210mm lens. I use the pockets in the upper section to hold things like the charger, filter, and cleaning supplies. I like the fact that the camera compartment is only accessible from the back of the pack. It seems well made.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple complexity This has been one of the most amazing action cameras I've ever purchased. Though the video quality tends to be compatible to the Hero 4, it's leaps and bounds ahead of the Hero 3+ Silver. The video stabilization makes a huge difference when I'm mountain biking (be sure to flip the camera upside down if you're wearing a chest mount). 4K video makes my time lapses ridiculously clear. The main reason I like this camera is the user interface. It's very simple to use, and I don't have to spend so much time connecting my phone to set up a shot. It's faster to do everything now. I had a little trouble connecting my phone when I wanted to, but I just reset the connection from the very beginning and now it works great! My shots look very professional, and now people think I'm cooler than my twin brother

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommend I was looking for a not so bulky bag to day trip with and this bag is awesome!!! I loved it so much i bought one from my family member. The lower chamber in the back holds my Nikon d5300 with 50mm lens and also my 300mm lens and its a little tight but to be expected. It has a rain fly that is a must! has two side pockets that i put a water bottle in and my tripod on the other side. The main compartments are plenty roomy for ipad and what ever else you carry around, i use mine for day trips.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice photo backpack, but small. This was a freebie as part of a package deal when I bought a new camera. It is a nice little pack, well-constructed, but with emphasis on little. It has room in the upper chamber for my D500 with lens and battery pack attached, and room in the lower chamber for my flash, a 50mm lens and one more lens - I need to choose either my wide angle zoom lens or my long telephoto zoom lens, but not both. So, it's nice if you want to take a limited amount of your gear for a sort photo session but you'll want a larger size if you need to carry more equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great pack for a compact camera system This pack is a perfect fit for my Olympus OM-D body and three lenses - plus everything else I need to carry for a full day's hike or long day cross-country skiing. The pack is very light and comfortable, holds two water bottles (or one water bottle and a small tripod), rain jacket, and lunch. There is even a pocket to hold a small tablet like my Nexus 7. The quality is excellent. At about 2 lbs. this is the perfect small pack for landscape or street photography.
