Auray WHF-158 Overview

The black Auray WHF Series Foam Windscreens are designed to reduce unwanted broadband wind noise and vocal pops with minimal high frequency loss.

This WHF-158 Foam Windscreen is designed for use with many common handheld microphones with a 1-5/8" diameter head. The density of the specialty acoustic foam is optimized to help protect the microphone element from air bursts without muffling the sound.

When used on a handheld microphone, this windscreen is effective in minimizing wind noise and plosive sounds. It is most effective in calm to light breeze conditions (0 to 7 mph) and can be used indoors for protection against drafts caused by air-conditioners. Users can generally expect a 4 to 8 dB reduction in wind noise with very slight dampening of high frequencies. For most applications, the very slight high-frequency dampening is a worthwhile exchange for the notable wind noise reduction.

The WHF-158's foam is hypoallergenic and washable and helps prevent moisture and dirt from damaging your microphone. The windscreen is designed to fit microphones from Shure, Electro-Voice, AKG, Audio-Technica, Audix, Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, Neumann and others.

The WHF-158 Foam Windscreen for 1-5/8" Diameter Microphones is an effective solution for basic wind protection.

Foam where needed

Didn't think there would be much difference in foam windscreens but this has more foam on front to eliminate pops as well as keeping your mouth the correct distance to reduce proximity effect without having it on the sides so that it looks stupid. I didn't notice any loss of clarity. Besides stopping pops an plosives, it also protects your mic should some drunk person knock it over...as well as your front teeth for the same reason. Yes, I still have a chip in my front tooth.

Fits an EV N/D767a pretty much perfectly. While it won't take care of heavy plosives, the upside is it also doesn't take the top end down much either... important for a stage mic.

I use these on everything from an E.V RE-18 model mic, E.V 664A model to the Shure 579SB models. These foam windscreens fit so many older mics and are very high quality. Worth every penny.

Will it fit the Behringer XM8500?
Asked by: Aaron
I bought this windscreen for my Behringer 1800s Microphone, and it fits perfectly. You are asking if it would fit the 8500 Microphone. I don't know, but both microphones look nearly identical. If the two microphones' wire head baskets are the same dimensionally, this windscreen will fit. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Will this fit on the Sennheiser AVX-835?
Asked by: Tyler
It's designed to fit the equivalent of a Shure SM-58 ball shaped mesh pop screen. That said, it will work with the Sennheiser 835, it will be a little loose at the back since the Sennheiser is tapered. If you're not too finicky about aesthetics, buy it.

The Auray WHF-158 Foam Windscreen fits most standard ball-head microphones. According to published specifications by Sony, the WRT-867A has a 2 diameter. The Auray may work, but might be a tight fit.

If you are talking about the Audio-Technica AT2035 the answer is no. This windscreen is much too small for a studio mic it fits a handheld microphone.

question

Will this fit over the H1 Zoom Handy recorder? Yes I know Zoom has a windscreen but...way overpriced for what I need.
Asked by: Steve P.
This 5/8 screen may cover a bit more of the recorder than you would like. Auray makes another foam screen which is fitted for the H1.http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/885042-REG/auray_wrf_h1_foam_windscreen_for_zoom.html/pageID/accessoryA foam screen will be effective for vocal plosives, or wind up to about 5 mph.For stronger winds, you will need a furry windscreen, which will be good for wind up to about 20mph.
