What size screws do I need to mount this to my tripod?
The Sony VCT-U14 Quick-Release Tripod Adapter has a row of alternating 1/4 and 3/8 holes on the bottom. In spite of these being imperial sizes and not metric, they are the world standard for attaching camera equipment. Manfrotto Set of Two 1/4 Camera Mounting Screws B&H # MAR116.138. Manfrotto 3/8 -16 Quick Release Plate Screws (2-pack) B&H # MAR116.137. It will depend on your tripod quick release plate.

It's mostly a plastic vs. metal issue, although there are other differences, too. There is a thorough review video on YouTube if you search for sony VCTU 14 vs sony VCT14. After watching that video, I'm probably going to go with the VCT14.
