Sony VCTU14 overview

  • 1Description

Sony's VCT-U14 is probably the second most important piece of equipment in your camera bag - second only to the camera itself. The VCT-U14 allows the full-size, shoulder mount professional camera or camcorder to be attached to a tripod's wedge-plate. The Sony plate has a quick release mechanism that allows for rapid mount or dismounting of the camera from the tripod.

    Sony VCTU14 reviews

VCT-U14 Quick Release Tripod Adapter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 26.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from works GREAT, just as advertized! These Sony Tripod adaptors have been around a long time. I used them when I worked at CBS and we pounded them day after day, camera on - camera off all day long and they never jammed or broke down, never! I bought this one for my ikan Tilta rig so I could go quickly from the tripod to the shoulder and back again. Works great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little bit sloppy but still very handy I really like being able to go from tripod to Steadicam and vise versa so this unit is handy. However, there is a little bit of play when using a smaller camera like an EX1. Front to back is very solid, it's the side to side that was some play. I used to use one of these with a larger DVCAM rig, and there was almost no wiggle room. Very solid. Not the case with smaller cameras. If you need a totally solid mount, mount your camera directly to the dovetail that came with your tripod. Again, it's handy for moving to/from different platforms.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from standard adapter but... There are different size screws in camera mounting plates that usually are attached to this one. When using long mounting plate screws be careful because they can interfere with the release mechanism in this adapter so the lever gets stuck and you can not release the camera. Below this adapter there are many holes for screws, but NOT FROM END TO END. When balancing the camera i often need to move the camera mounting plate way back for proper balance but there are not enough holes and you will need a longer mounting plate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tried & True Product This Quick Release Plate is a Sony Standard. I do production work all the time and these are long lasting & rugged. I have had this one about a month, but I have others in the studio that are years old and still as good as new.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good price, questionable build quality I can unlock the latch without having depress the red safety release button. The latch can be lifted over the stop without much effort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Snap and go to hand held in a snap Love this plate, bought a movcam base with rails for my camera with this V style mount. I had a regular tripod plate mounted on the bottom of my rig but sliding the plate in and out was hard to do with the full handle and shoulder rig. Now its a breeze pops in, I'm on sticks, clicks out, it's on my shoulder no other adjustments just pop and go. A little hard to swallow on the price but worth every $$$.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light & Durable - Fits well for Arri rig 4 c300mkii Compared to the ALL METAL Sony plate... it is LIGHTER. The thick plastic parts of the VCT-U14 seems strong under normal use so far. Haven't put any EXTREME weight on it...but as far as I can surmise... it's well constructed w/ the shedding of some weight. And as we know... every pound shed is a better day on set, or in the field. Worth the price. ...so FAR.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, well made: practical Never go cheap with professional gear. I tried a knock off and instantly regretted it. Fortunately, I did a few supported tests on my tripod. When I pointed the camera up toward the ceiling, the latch would give out. If not supported, the camera would have crashed to the ground. I sent that thing back and bought the VCT_U14 and have not regretted it once.
