Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens with Removable Hood for Sony
Key Features
  • Ultra Wide-Angle 8mm Fisheye Lens
  • 180º Angle of View
  • High Definition, Aspherical Elements
  • For Use with APS-C Format DSLRs
The 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye Lens with Removable Hood for Sony from Rokinon gives you a 180º view with dramatic, exaggerated perspective when used with an APS-C camera, or a powerful circular image floating in the frame when used with a full frame digital camera or 35mm film camera. With hybrid aspherical elements and multi-layer coating, you will produce sharply defined images with a minimum of flare and ghosting. The 8mm lens focuses as close as 12" (30.48cm) from the lens. This version of the 8mm f/3.8 Fisheye lens comes with a removable lens hood that will offer glare reduction and lens protection, but can be removed to offer an increased and unobstructed angle of view when shooting with full frame digital or 35mm cameras.

Does this lens produce a full circular image on FF Sony camera? Without cropping at top and bottom of circle?
Asked by: Erika
The Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens would be a full circular fisheye lens when used on a full-frame Sony camera which uses the Sony/Minolta A-mount lens mount.

Does this lens will produce a full (I mean, FULL) ...

Does this lens will produce a full (I mean, FULL) circular image with a Sony A7SII + Metabones in full frame mode and will cover the entire screen in APS-C mode?
Asked by: Jorge
Regarding your Sony camera I cannot answer that. On a Canon crop sensor, the image circle more than covers the sensor area. With the Canon sensors, you get a little less than 180 degrees coverage (I think it is listed at 167 degrees). This is due to the Canon APS-C sensor being slightly smaller that the competition. On a full frame camera, the lens image area expands beyond the image area on the top and bottom (short side) but does not extend all the way across the long side of the frame. Consider this carefully--the illumination drops off gradually as you get to the edge of the circular image. Optical quality at the edge of the frame is not good. Trying to get a full frame image from this lens is probably what you do not want to do. However, if used with the hood on a crop sensor camera, this lens works pretty good, especially considering the price of the optic.

What's the difference between this and the one ...

What's the difference between this and the one from samyang, also 8mm f/3.5?, isn't samyang and rokinon the same one? Also, this lens is EF mount, thus, which is the equivalent focal length in a APS-C camera? Thanks
Asked by: Sebastian Crazh
The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens and the Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 HD Fisheye Lens is the same lens from the same factory. On APS-C sensor cameras the lens has the angle of view of a 12.8mm lens on a full frame camera.

question

is this is rectilinear or circular fisheye?
Asked by: Hung N.
The lens is close to stereographic projection, a mild form of fisheye that does not compress the edges as much as traditional fisheyes. Unlike fisheye or rectlinear distortion, stereographic design yields circular spheres more perfectly round. It is the preferable projection for shooting groups of people.

question

I actually own this lens and have had it for almost 3 years. I use it on my Canon 50D and I mostly use it to shoot skate photos. Ive never read about the lens and didnt know about the options with using it on a 35mm film camera. Does it need an adapter? I have a Canon A-1 so its an FD mount.. Can it work with a Canon Cinematic body or on video mode on other Canon bodies?
Asked by: Chris B.
This lens can go onto any EOS body/adapter that utilizes the EF mount.
