  • 1Description

The PowerShot SX160 IS Digital Camera (Red) from Canon offers a powerful 16x optical zoom lens enabling you to shoot photos and videos that cover the full spectrum of focal lengths. From wide-angle 28mm shots of friends gathered 'round the dinner table to standard length shots of landscapes and even telephoto shots of animals, sporting events and close-up portraits, the SX160 has you covered. And the Intelligent Optical Image Stabilization system recognizes the different conditions that can cause a shaky, blurry image and corrects them so that your long zoom, fast action and low light shots are delivered sharp and stunning.

The PowerShot SX160 houses a 16MP CCD sensor and Canon's famous DIGIC 4 Image Processor. These are the brains and guts of the camera and the quality of image they produce is terrific. They also provide the fast autofocus of the SX160 and guarantee that your shots are seen on the LCD quickly and transfer to your HDTV via HDMI in an instant.

Speaking of HDMI, the SX160 also captures video in 720p HD and with the HDMI output, you can connect your camera to your HDTV and screen your videos in gorgeous HD moments after you shoot them. If you don't carry your HDTV around with you, use the camera's large 3.0" LCD screen to compose and display your images. People will be impressed.

Canon PowerShots are renowned for their image quality, but also for their ease of use and the SX160 takes ease of use to a whole new level. Smart AUTO will select the best settings for your shot and allow you to simply point and shoot. The Smart AUTO in the SX160 is not a generic coverall, it utilizes 32 predefined shooting situations to match with your shot and customize the camera's settings for sharp, colorful, perfectly exposed images, no matter the degree of difficulty. The Intelligent Image Stabilization also makes difficult shots easy by reducing the blur caused by camera shake in low light and long zoom situations and improved High Speed Autofocus gets your shot in focus in a hurry, leaving you time to compose the shot you want without juggling dials and menus. For simple, beautiful image capture in both photo and video, the PowerShot SX160 is the camera for you.

    Canon SX160 IS Reviews

PowerShot SX160 IS Digital Camera (Red) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 33.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super little camera! When I'm traveling, I like to have a grab and go camera that doesn't require anything more of me than to point and shoot. This one fits the bill perfectly: it's reasonably light weight, takes good, clear snap shots, and has an incredible zoom. It's a little heavier than what I'd been using, but not burdensome, I also like the fact that it's got some shape to it - it's not just a box. The curved bulge on the side makes it easier to hold on to. Also like the fact that it uses normal, rechargeable batteries so one less thing I need to pack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thus far... So far I have been very impressed with this camera. It was very easy to set up and begin using. I have really enjoyed playing around with the different settings and it seems like there is one for every situation. All of the different features are easy to understand and laid out in a very practical way. I have found myself bringing this camera every where with me just because I want to continue to take pictures with it. I have not yet printed out any pictures with it but on my computer the image quality seems to be good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great camera for the price I have professional DSLRs but sometimes you just want something quick and easy to put in your pocket. This is the camera. Great quality, easy to use, fast, and great price. Great image quality for a small camera.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again I recently bought the Canon SX 160. I take pictures for hobby and have another camera for my more practice professional pictures; however this one could fill in easily! It has a great LCD screen, and great view of it! I can take a picture, change the color of it and crop it all on the camera! And it has a great wide lense on it. The only drawback that I have found it that you have to push a button to use the flash- however since I shoot in manual or shutter priority a lot I don't use it all that much so It doesn't bother me!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Zoom, but... I bought it for the 16X optical zoom, but at 16X you really need a tripod to hold it steady. Most pictures at about 10X and higher are blurred from my hands shaking. Why doesn't anyone make cameras with viewfinders anymore? When you hold a camera up against your eye, it doesn't shake as much.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much better than I had expected This camera had been recommended to me twice, but when I received it, I just didn't think that it had the quality I was looking for. So far, it seems that I was wrong. I was initially disappointed that the flash had to be manually raised and then takes precious time to charge, potentially missing my shot. However, after using this camera for one full day, I was really pleased with the way it chose the best settings for each of my shots when on the auto setting. It is light weight, and although it doesn't fit into my pocket, it didn't weigh down my bag carrying it around all day. The pictures appear to be good quality, though I haven't printed them out yet. I'm really looking forward to seeing what I got.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I Would Not Buy This Camera I own the Canon Powershot SX 150, and have owned all previous models in the Powershot line. I always purchased the new model, because each new model in this line was better than the old one. When I tested the Canon Powershot SX 160, however, I was shocked to see how poorly constructed this new model is, in comparison to the old one. While the tech specs are higher, Canon eliminated many important features, in fact the SX 150 has 9 modes of shooting, whereas the new SX 160 has only 5 modes. One of my favorite modes, the Landscape setting, was among those eliminated. Moreover, the physical construction of the new model looks and feels cheap, in comparison to the old model. It appears that Canon tried to hold the price down, for the new camera, by cutting back on the new camera's features and overall manufacturing quality. This is the first time in years that I have chosen not to upgrade to the new model, because the the SX 160 is, in terms of its quality and features, clearly a step backward from the previous model. Very disappointed in Canon, in this case.
