Hauppauge HD PVR 2 overview

  • 1Description

The HD Personal Video Recorder 2 Gaming Edition from Hauppauge! allows you to record gameplay from your preferred gaming console in Full HD 1080p video. With HDMI input and output ports as well a component video input port, this personal video recorder supports the Xbox 360, the Playstation 3 as well as the PC. Also, the no-delay HDMI video passthrough allows you to record and play in real time.

Recorded video will automatically be compressed in the H.264 video format (often used in Blu-ray Discs). This personal video recorder can record videos at Full HD 1080p resolution and at 30 frames per second (fps). However, there are exceptions to this rule. In order to achieve Full HD 1080p at 30 fps, the content being recorded through HDMI must not use HDCP protection.

Xbox 360 games can be recorded through HDMI at 1080p at 30fps, but Playstation 3 games use HDCP protection. For Playstation 3, you will have to use the included component video cable and as a result, will only be able to record in 1080i. The Wii U can also use the HDMI cable like the Xbox 360. However, if you want to record the older Wii system, you have to connect the yellow cable from the Wii to the Blue connector of the AV cable. Then connect the red and white audio cables from the Wii to the corresponding connectors on the AV cable. Finally, in Showbiz or Hauppauge Capture, you have to select Composite under Video Input and Line In under Audio Input. This same method can be used to record your Playstation 2 as well.

No-Delay HDMI Video Passthrough at Full HD 1080p
With a no-delay HDMI video passthrough, you'll be able to play in Full HD 1080p at 60 fps and record in Full HD 1080p at 30 fps at the same time. Also, recording doesn't slow down your computer because all the encoding is done on the personal video encoder itself. There is a catch, though. The source being recorded from HDMI must not use the HDCP standard. If it does, you will have to use the included component video cable and will only be able to record in 1080i
Port Authority
With an HDMI input port and an HDMI output port, you'll be able to play and record at the same time. Plus, HDMI supports both video and audio signals in a single cable so there's less hassle when it comes to cable management. There is also a component input port, which provides an alternative to HDMI, in case the content you want to record uses the HDCP standard. A USB port is used to connect this personal video recorder to your computer in order to save the recorded video onto its hard drive
ArcSoft ShowBiz
This personal video recorder comes bundled with the ArcSoft ShowBiz software. The ArcSoft ShowBiz software allows you to record video, edit recorded footage with the video editor and even upload videos straight to YouTube (Internet access required)
Top Mounted Record Button
The traditional way of recording gameplay or video content would have been by opening up ArcSoft ShowBiz on your connected computer and pressing Record. This personal video recorder also has a top-mounted Record button on the personal video recorder itself so you can record video directly from it. Just press the Record button once and ShowBiz will open on your computer and automatically start recording. If you want to stop recording, just press the top-mounted Record button again

    Hauppauge HD PVR 2 reviews

HD Personal Video Recorder 2 Gaming Edition is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I expected My friend and I have started our own YouTube Channel, as for something we've always wanted to do and to also fund our films we want to direct int he future. So far the product has been great! We've never used anything like this before so it was more of a trial and error ordeal. Runs smoothly and captures in 1080i. We did find out that around 1 hour of straight filming, it can't be processed properly. Found out the best way to do it was to film 15 to 25minutes, no problems there. Just have to get a composite cable so we can record from N64 and try to find a way for PC's and MAC's

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hdpvr2 I use this to upload youtube videos if you guys want to check out the quallity then go to my channel SpasticRazor. This is a great product and should be widely used and its at an affordable price Do note that if you wish to use this on the monitor make sure you either have a HDMI port or you need a DVI to HDMI cable. There are really no bad things about this product. It records in 1080p.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from superb quality outstanding quality, easy and quick install. I use it for recording only HD content off satellite tv (HDMI) 1080p on a 46 1080p tv.(sharpness setting set to full) Using the mp4 setting at 10mbps.on the pvr. Cant tell or notice any signs of color sharpness or picture loss from the live transmission after play back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty Dang Good! I bought this to replace a dumb Dazzle PVR for recording gameplay. It is definitely better. The setup is quick and easy if you understand how these things work. Only problem I had was the color was a little washed out, but after further inspection I noticed I didn't have a wire plugged all the way in. It doesn't have fantastic color when using it with a PS3, but after running it through a video editing program, I can have a beautiful video within 2 minutes. I would suggest that to anyone looking for an excellent PVR, this is the one to get.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great for digitizing 8MM tapes I bought this box for converting my 8mm tapes to digital format. The product worked well out of the box. It was easy to setup. There are options to convert at highest frame rate, but this does create large size files.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Video Recorder I've used for XBOX. I use this product for recording Xbox footage off of my TV and into my Windows laptop. It records HD and gives a high quality image. It also records the in-game audio, which is a plus. Initially, I was disappointed to learn it only recorded to Windows because I wanted to set it up with my iMac, but then I learned that they offer software for $ , available on their site to record to Macs. Great buy!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Buyer be aware It actually doesn't record anything. It needs a computer, with which it will communicate via USB, sending its video data down that port while activating the ArcSoft app (a process that takes about 30 seconds. Your distance from unit to computer is dictated by the finite length of USB cabling, 15 feet. It will record well (compressed)and is so simple even a college professor can use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waited a while to buy this beauty. Been wanting to do walkthroughs and whatnot on youtube for a while. Waited until I had enough money to buy all the gear I'd need. Glad I went with the Happauge as it performs up to it's reputation. Packaging was secure and installation was a snap.
