The casing for the HyperDrive COLORSPACE UDMA2 Backup Storage Device from Sanho is a customizable, stand-alone backup solution with a wide variety of data management and security tools. It provides you with the option of installing any 2.5" SATA hard drive, without any restrictions on storage capacity. It supports 5 different memory card types, including CompactFlash Type I, SD, SDHC, SDXC and MultiMedia Cards. Once a hard drive is installed, the UDMA2 allows you to view and backup the contents of your memory card--without a computer or external power supply.

Backing up data from a memory card to the UDMA2 can be done at a sustained data transfer rate of up to 27MB/s. Using the built-in mini-USB 2.0 port provides a sustained data transfer rate of 32MB/s, and the device is also backward compatible with USB 1.1 technology. Wirelessly backing up your data is also an option via the included Wi-Fi Adapter. Plug it into the Accessory Port of the UDMA2 and achieve a data transfer rate of up to 3MB/s to any wireless device within range. This includes tablets, laptops, smartphones and PCs.

The 3.5" TFT color LCD display allows you to view the contents of your memory cards in full screen 320 x 480 resolution. The device is able to display JPEG images, as well as any RAW file type. New RAW file formats can be added via firmware updates. You can also view an RGB histogram, which provides detailed EXIF data, over your images. Zoom and rotate functions can display files at 100% pixel level to help confirm focus and image quality.

The S.M.A.R.T. system (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) monitors the internal hard drive for potential issues and includes a built-in data recovery tool. This tool aids in recovering deleted, lost, corrupted, and formatted files from memory cards. Sort these files with ease using user-programmable scripts and computer-like file operations.

Note: Incremental backups are not supported when importing from an SDXC memory card; only initial backups are possible.

User Replaceable Hard Drive and Battery

As this is just the casing for the Colorspace UDMA2, it includes everything in the device except a pre-installed hard drive. You have the option to select the capacity that best fits your needs, of any 2.5" SATA HDD, and use the included screwdriver to add or remove it as needed. Its battery is also a common 18650 lithium-ion battery that is also easy to replace, and supports the backup of 120GB of data on a single charge.

Backup Transfer Rate: 27MBps

Backup your memory cards at 27MBps by inserting them right into the HyperDrive Colorspace UDMA2. Transfer photos from the UDMA2 and to your computer via the included USB cable, at 480Mbps - or wirelessly via 802.11b/g/n wireless networks at 3.0MBps.

3.5" TFT Color LCD 320 x 480 Display

The 3.5" display, larger than the previous model, enables you to view both JPG and RAW files in full-screen, thumbnail, and slideshow modes.

Displays JPG and RAW File Formats

View any JPEG or RAW file format that your camera records, without needing to upload images and use external software. The RAW file decoder supports all current RAW file formats, and the addition of new file types is possible with future firmware updates.

Supports CF, SD, SDHC, SDXC & MMC Cards

The UDMA2 supports CompactFlash Type I (CF), Secure Digital SD / SDHC / SDXC and MultiMedia Card (MMC) memory cards. Plug any of them into the UDMA2 to easily backup or view your images.

Recover Lost or Deleted Memory Card Data

Should data be lost, there is a built-in recovery tool that aids in recovering deleted, lost, corrupted, and formatted files from memory cards.

Access Data via Wi-Fi Connected Devices

Attach the included Wi-Fi Adapter to the Accessory Port of the UDMA2, enter your network's SSID and password, and connect your UDMA2 to any wireless device. These include tablets, laptops, smartphones, or desktop PCs.

Supports Hi-Speed USB 2.0 & USB 1.1

Designed for Hi-Speed USB 2.0, the UDMA2 can transfer images at a rate of up to 480Mbps. It is also backward compatible with USB 1.1 devices.

Built-In 2600mAh Rechargeable Battery

View and backup hundreds of images in a single charge with the built-in lithium-ion battery. Its 2600mAh capacity can be recharged via the included AC adapter, whether the UDMA2 is turned on or off.

S.M.A.R.T. Monitoring System

The S.M.A.R.T. Monitoring System stands for: Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology. This feature continuously scans, detects, and records any mechanical failures within the internal hard drive, and warns of any failure that may result in the loss of data.

Advanced File Navigation

You can sort your files using user-programmable scripts and file operations. These include the usual copy, cut, paste, delete and rename, as well as create new folder, format hard drive, erase card and sort file directory by name, date, or type.

Sanho COLORSPACE UDMA2 Reviews

Great for backup and storage

I use the device for backup and storage of CF and SD cards while traveling with excellent results. Installation of a 1TB SATA internal hard drive into the HyperDrive casing was easy, providing enough storage for long excursions. Especially handy when shooting in remote locations with access to a computer. Additional features include a Restore function - I was able to use this to restore a damaged card, salvaging a day of memorable pictures in Rome. The WiFi function does work, but transfer speeds are greatly reduced. The 3.5 color screen is useful for quick review of images and basic metadata information. Memory cards can be checked for images, available storage space, and benchmark speeds. Only negatives - I have been unable to consistently achieve the battery life and transfer speeds specified. Overall, this has been a great investment and provides peace of mind when backing-up photos while traveling.

Update to Two Previous Posts

Sanho has issued their v35 firmware update, which resolves the problem of not being able to incrementally backing up SDXC memory cards. V35 fixes issues with respect to SDXC's exFAT format. I tried it at home and it appears to work. Their website shows v30 is out, but click on ZIP and it will take you to the download site for v35. I followed their instructions and had no problems updating to v35.

Nice piece of gear

I like having this for a backup. I had contemplated a MacBook, but this is much cheaper. It's a dated user control since there is no touch screen, but otherwise it's good. The case it comes with has the downfall that you can't put an SD card in for backup, put it back in the case on your belt, and go back to shooting while it transfers because the SD slot is on the side. If you shoot CF your fine. The battery doesn't seem to last s long as they predict, and I am not able to get the application they made for the iPad to work with the wifi dongle. I'll keep working to find a fix for that.

This portable backup device is extremely easy to use and offers a variety of options such as card recovery. One thing should be noted is that you CANNOT use it with an SSD drive, it must be with a regular notebook-size SATA HDD. Sadly the device does not provide enough power to initiate an SSD. Secondly, you can remove the rear cover to easily install or change a hard drive, and replace the battery.

This product offers an excellent way to back up multiple sources. I purchased the version with out a drive and installed the recommended 1TB drive. It was simple to do and has worked flawlessly.

Does what it says but its old technology

i was looking for an efficient way to back up photos while travelling without having to bring my laptop. The machine provides that means and i bought a 1T hard drive to ensure i had enough memory. it backs up SD cards no problem including in RAW format and gives a decent view of photos, and is only the size of two modern smart phones stacked on top of one another. However, for the price i was not impressed with the quality of the product or the clarity of the viewer. the plastic casing is poorly made and doesn't really fit together well once you pull the back off to activate the battery/install your hard drive. your SD card kind of fits in its slot with no real comforting 'click' that its in. it cannot accommodate a solid state hard drive either. while it functions well enough it just feels cheap and poorly engineered. for the price i expected more. a better option may well be to simply get an iPad SD card reader and simply back up there provided you have enough memory.

Won't read SD cards

Installed a WD hard drive and tried to import from 3 different SD card mfr.'s. Wouldn't read any of them. Other functions seemed OK just no card reader. Lots of info on support site about problems with firmware updates and what cards can be read. Too expensive not to work right out of the box so I returned it.

I bought Extreme Pro 32 GB cards from B&H earlier. Are these compatible?
Asked by: Molly B.
I use an SD card 16 gb with the device with no problems when I was on vacation in 2014. I have only recently bought a SD 32gb card but have not tried it yet on this device. you might want to try the manufucture's site and look for feedback. I got some good info there as well as the BH feedback section.

question

Is there a way to display photos from this onto an iPad?
Asked by: Molly B.
I used the original UDMA (without wireless) to backup my photos while in Africa and it worked a treat . If you have the UDMA2 and the iPad, I would rigorously test the connection and the wireless functionality of the UDMA2 before you go. As I recall, the connection doesn't require wi-fi, but sets up a wireless network between the two devices.BTW, my UDMA2 locked up on me on a recent trip, so I would have a Plan B if I were you. Depending on where you go in Africa, you may find more wi-fi than you would expect.

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. There is a downloadable manual, but I can't remember exactly where I found it. If it is any help to you (Google?), the filename is: UDMA2-MANUAL-EN-20120506.pdf. Most likely I found it at this webpage:.Good luck. Mine appears to have died on me.Rick

question

I use Leica M and Leica S2 and shoot Raw. Is it compatible?
Asked by: Anonymous
I and my partner shoot RAW exclusively (Nikon and Canon) and use the NEXTO often. There should not be a problem as the NEXTO is merely a file storage device. If you use a compatible card, it should work fine.

question

How long would this take to backup a 32gig card?
Asked by: Anonymous
This will depend on what SD card you are using and what type of disk/ssd you have installed in your UDMA2.My UDMA2 is installed with firmware v35, Samsung SSD 840 Basic (250GB), and I used a Transcend 64GB SDXC I Class 10 U3 (Read: 95MB/s Write: 85MB/s). To test I imported roughly 10GB of photos (raw and jpg) in about 8 minutes.SSD: <a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=897035&is=REG&fromDisList=y target= _blank >http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=897035&is=REG&fromDisList=y</a>Hope this helps!Mike
