The Smart-UPS C 1000VA with LCD (120V) by APC is a UPS (uninterruptible power supply) with a 120V output and input, and 8x NEMA 5-15R battery-powered outlets. It features pure sine wave output on battery which simulates utility power for servers and sensitive electronics, an LCD status display for quick status updates at a glance, and is cold-start capable, which means the outlets provide AC battery power when the utility power goes out.

It is also an efficient unit, with a patent-pending operating mode that bypasses electrical components in good condition in order to provide a high operating efficiency to the rest of the load. Because it generates less heat, it also reduces utility costs, and it prolongs battery life by regulating the charge voltage according to battery temperature.

A host of other features are included in the Smart-UPS line, including but not limited to, remote network management, hot-swappable user replaceable batteries, and predictive failure notification.

Green Mode
Patent-pending operating mode that bypasses unused electrical components in good power conditions to achieve very high operating efficiency without sacrificing any protection.
Pure Sine Wave Output on Battery
Simulates utility power to provide the highest degree of compatibility for active PFC (power factor corrected) servers and sensitive electronics.
LCD Status Display
Provides key UPS status at a glance. Multiple status indicators with load and battery bar graphs.
High Online Efficiency
Reduces utility costs, generates less heat.
Cold-Start Capable
Provides temporary battery power when the utility power is out.
Temperature-Compensated Battery Charging
Prolongs battery life by regulating the charge voltage according to battery temperature.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid, cost effective option Overall, this box does what it says. I recommend using the APC site to calculate the capacity of the box you need prior to purchasing. As always B&H has competitive prices. Setup is quick and easy, and the build is solid. We've already had a power outage and the Smart-UPS worked flawlessly. The only slight negative is the calculated battery time during the outage seemed to be a little shorter than the estimated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good UPS but... I have purchased 3 of these units in the past 6 months to protect multiple high-end PCs. Overall, they are an excellent value. If you need to protect sensitive electronic equipment, use a unit with a pure sine wave output such as this one. Because this model has no fan, it runs perfectly silent. All 3 units arrived with down-level firmware & inaccurate documentation (operating instructions). Updated firmware & corrected documentation are available on the APC website. One star off for costing me half-a-day to correct firmware & documentation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lacks Network Isolation This UPS definitely keeps my small server & data running during brief outages. However, the UPS does NOT have any surge protection on the CAT5 networking coming in and out of my protected system. If a surge hits the same circuit, it could fry a network card or worse simply by conducting over one of the many network patch cables installed. This is a small worry, but I upgraded from a unit that had built-in CAT5 surge protection, and I feel that I should have been warned that I was losing that feature when I upgraded to a higher-capacity unit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fits the Application Being off-grid, I needed something larger than the standard UPS - even though I just have a stand-alone PC. Talked first to technical support rep, who was outstanding in ensuring that the SMC 1000 would work with a solar system. Had to get some additional help with getting the PowerChute to work - that's just me. The second technical support rep that helped me with PowerChute, also went above and beyond. My electrician recommended the APC brand. I concur - not only because their equipment is great; but so is the customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as intended I got this to power my server and router. What I once thought was very stable power I'm discovering how ratty it actually is. The server is linked into the smart ups and emails me whenever there's a fluctuation. Well I get notified about power issues about twice a day. The lights barely flicker and 'ding' goes my email with a notification. It's kinda crazy. But nice knowing the appliance is doing it's job.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Understand its limitations. This unit gives you sine wave output with no frills at an attractive price. Be aware of the limitations of this new model at its price point. This is not a desktop product, so don't expect extras like ethernet or coax surge protection. It is less capable than some other APC UPSs with equivalent VA ratings; for example, the SMC1000 is rated for 600 watts, vs. 700 for the SMT1000. It has a 2-year warranty, rather than the 3 year warranty carried by most recent APC products. Most puzzlingly, its management interface is much less chatty than even my consumer-grade APC units: for example, you can't query it for current load (though you can get that information from the front-panel display). All my consumer-grade APC products provide that information in software. If these limitations don't concern you, it's a good value, and is the lowest-priced APC UPS with sine wave output. It's perfect for protecting the availability of a small server.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent product as always we run nothing but APC UPS's now, from 350va floor standing to 8kva rackmounts in our IT dept. They seem to have the best overall reliability versus other products we have purchased, with usually nothing more than typical battery replacements. this particular one is being used on my home theater, with another one running a home camera system.
