Dinkum Systems ActionPod Reviews
useful and versatile, but hard to work one-handed
One negative is that the clamp is extremely stiff and hard to open one-handed if you have small hands like I do. But, overall this is an extremely versatile tool, for creatively mounting anything with a 1/4-20 thread: action cameras, shotgun or other mics, small lights, etc etc.
Great use for Sound Mixers!
Bought this originally as a plant mic mount. Found out when not in use for plant mics I can actually clamp it onto my mixer bag with a phone holder attachment where I can run my Sound Devices wingman app and run my sound reports notes. Great versatility and a nice strong clamp!
Strong!
You could get some workout with this clamp! Works as advertised!
Sturdy!
Seems sturdy! Real sturdy! Will handle a cell phone/pocket camera/mirrorless camera no problem! Youll need some hand muscle to work the clamp sometimes, but thats good right. Again, sturdy. Im very happy with it.
Youll need a very strong grip
The spring in the clamp is so strong its as much as impossible to open it enough to clamp it onto about anything thicker than a fraction of an inch. Other than that it appear to hold any reasonable load in position. Maybe I can get the spring tension to weaken somehow.
I use it as a way for quickly adding and removing accessories to and off gimbal.
Been using it for a year and happy so far. Hope it lasts.
Must have for Action recording
This is a must have if your are recording on the move, on your bike or sporting event! Simply clamp on and record away!! This system clamps to any surface (even rope fence) I have recorded over 20 games using this clamp to give me rock steady foundation to record from .
Sturdy for Stationary Mounting and Very Strong Clamp
As others have noted, the clamp is strong and may be difficult for some folks to open fully. I can get it to max opening with my dominant hand with a bit of focus but struggle with my other hand. I am confident it'll stay put if I'm mounting a strobe or phone on a stationary item but I don't imagine I'd mount on anything that shakes (motorcycle, car, bike, etc.) as the articulating arm transfers vibration very efficiently. Articulating the item is a noisy affair as the plastic components are very-snugly fitted. Things stay put once you wrenched them into place. I removed 1 start because I feel the articulating arm needs 1 or 2 more nodes of articulation - I can manage without them, however. Also: I did accidentally pull off the top node (with the thread) but was able to pop it back on without too much struggle. It remains snug.
