Impact Medium Octagonal Overview

The Luxbanx Medium Octagonal Softbox from Impact is a highly versatile tool for strobes, LEDs, and fluorescents. This 60" diameter softbox demands a bit more space than the smaller version put the payoff is a lot more wrap in the light quality even when use significantly off access. The softbox features a soft white interior, removable front diffuser and removable inner baffle. The diffuser and baffle can be used together for maximum softening of the output. Removing the inner baffle will give you a more crisp light quality with higher contrast, while shedding the front and inner diffusers turns the Luxbanx into a large reflector with maximum brightness and contrast.

The octa Luxbanx has an additional control via the optional fabric grid which mounts to the recessed lip of the softbox with touch-fasteners. The grid narrows and concentrates the light's beam forward, controlling spill and adding directional control to the Luxbanx's attributes. The large surface area of this octagonal-shaped softbox gives you a unique wrap-around quality of light that gains emphasis as you move it closer. Catchlights in the eyes of your subject are round and natural. Every Luxbanx comes with a carrying case and a spare Flex Rod. Separate purchase of a speed ring that matches your strobe's mount is required for use. Impact makes models to fit most popular brands.

Got this product with my Godox Sl-60. They make a great setup for first time studio light setup! Nice soft light evenly spread across my models!

Big Soft Light

The soft box is pretty big, I believe the 48 size would have been sufficient for my home studio. I really dont have the ceiling height to raise it as tall as Id like to. It was a little bit of a bugger to put together because I lack strength in my arms, but it was doable. Definitely get good sandbags for the base of the light stand. Im using a Profoto B1 with my Octa, along with the recommended speed ring (Angler Speed Ring for Profoto, BH# AN7464PRO). I received a free grid for it (doing my happy dance).

A very budget friendly octobox.

Im a big fan of this softbox. The ribs are flexible enough that assembly is quite simple and fast. Mine came with a two spare ribs, though some listings show it coming with one. Not sure what the correct amount is. The velcro on the diffuser runs all the way around the edge of the soft box, so there is no sag. The diffuser easily stays taught through a full day of usage. I do think the travel bag could be improved. The material is very flimsy and I am confident will tear through soon, its already fairly worn from just a few trips with it. Overall it's great budget soft box.

Assembling this is a chore. I don't believe most females have the strength to torque the rods into place. I'm dreading the next use, myself. A second person isn't required, but it does help some. Also, getting it attached to the Aputure Light Storm, it was difficult to get snapped into, and even harder to get off of. Haven't gotten the hang of it yet. There might not be a hang to get. My biggest disappointment with this product is the rods. I've used this softbox twice, and several of the rods are already significantly bent. Having said all that, there are some good things about it. The fabric does seem sturdy. The inner baffle works well, as does the white scrim on the front. However, the attachments with snaps (on the inner baffle) seem flimsy and like it's just a matter of time before one or more break off.

My first Impact softbox purchase

This was my first Impact soft box purchase. I have been a loyal Photoflex soft box user for the past 20 yrs, but couldn't pass up the great deal I got on this soft box w/a free grid set in an offer. I am really pleased with the build quality. If anything the rods might be overbuilt as they have really thick ends on the end of the rod that goes into the speed ring. For a travel photographer, that might mean extra weight you're not looking for. It also adds nose weight when you put it on a head, so make sure you clamp your head down well. Another bonus is you get an extra rod in case one gets lost or breaks.

Asked by: John E.
If you are referring to the Impact Digital Monolight 300W/s (120VAC), B&H # IMVSD300 MFR # VSD-300, then you would need to purchase the Impact Speed Ring for Impact, Bowens S, Westcott, B&H # IMSRIMP, to connect the Impact Luxbanx Medium Octagonal Softbox (60 ) to the Impact Digital Monolight 300W/s (120VAC).
