Impact Luxbanx Duo Overview

  • 1Description

The Impact Luxbanx Duo Deep Small Octagonal Softbox is a versatile 39" diameter light shaping tool with a textured silver interior for high output, removable front diffuser and a removable interior baffle. It's compatible with strobe lights, fluorescent, or LED light sources. It's also compatible with hot lights up to 1000W. When using it with hot lights remove the interior baffle. The Duo Octa's shape renders a signature quality of soft wrap-around light due to its large surface area and creates round, natural catchlights in your subject's eyes, making it ideal for portraiture and fashion. Separate purchase of a speed ring is required for use and Impact makes models to fit most popular brands.

Do not use inner baffle with hot lights.

    Impact Luxbanx Duo Reviews

Luxbanx Duo Deep Small Octagonal Softbox (39") is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 17.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from This box is a great light source to have !!! I decided to by the Luxbanx with the intent on using it for fashion photography. Once I had a while to experiment with it, I really began to enjoy the versatility and the quality of light it provides. This is the perfect modifier for having a one light set up to shoot portraits with. Setting it up is also not bad after some practice. On thing about it that is not so great is the buttons that snap into place holding the inter diffusion panel. If your taking of the panel often the buttons just break of with minimal effort. I have two come off so far. If it hadn't been of that I would have rated 5 stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Heavy, but beautiful One of the seams has already started to split at a connecting point which has me concerned. I've only used the unit twice in tests and am careful with my items. I'll be keeping a close watch on it. The rods are sturdy and the light it creates is beautiful. It's quite heavy, so be prepared to attached this giant softbox to a weighed-down C-stand via the speed ring as most lights will not be able to support the weight on their own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inexpensive rather than cheap I have to disagree with other reviewers about the quality of this product. I have tried a quite a few brands of modifiers, from Profoto, Broncolor, Photoflex, and more recently, Westcott. And the build quality is about the same as Westcott or Photoflex, which is to say, very very good. Actually I was greatly surprised of the overall quality of this product (the grid is different story, but it was included free with the softbox when I ordered, so even better!). Moreover, the heat vents are very useful for on location work, as it allows air to pass through the softbox without significant dragging (a feature absent even in the Profoto RFi series), and that means less chance of your lighting gear to end-up on the ground. I really have no idea of how badly you have to force the rods to break them, but when you order this product, and as opposed to every other brand, there is an extra rod included. About the softbox itself, the exterior is very well made, and looks though, I'd say rightly suited for on location work, reasonably easy to assemble (provided you what you are doing), and exactly as much as every other brand. The dimensions are just right to use it as a main light in either location or studio (I bought mine, specifically for on-location work). In studio, my second favorite modifier after the Mola Setti is the Westcott Zepellin Para 35, because it gives tons of contrast and very nice specular highlights (awesome for beauty work); unfortunately with 16 rods it's very impractical to carry on-location without assistants. For a moment, I considered the Elinchrom Depp Octa 39, but I tried the 59 version in the past and the external material is just incredibly thin to even considering taking it outside the studio; for the price totally not worth it (expensive as usual), and also there is no easy way to adapt it for speedlights. So I bought this one to cover that need because is slightly larger in diameter than the Zeppelin (about 4) and even slightly deeper (for about 2); which is to say very very deep. Make no mistake, this thing is big! That totally focuses the light on the subject without major spill, but only if you use the internal diffuser. My only criticism would be that the internal diffuser might have been placed closest to the front, to maximize the contrast, but even in the current form it does a fantastic job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great quality Just switched from speedlites to a studio strobe and was looking at the rotolux same size as this guy except it's a lot more money. at some point maybe I'll be in a position to care about that difference but for right now this is a deal that can't be beat. Provides a great depth and quality of light. the added grid is amazing as well. it's not as cheap as the other reviewer described. The one thing I would like to note is don't buy the impact speed ring or any other generic brand. I got a bowens one that didn't fit and had to scramble to find one that did.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Photography Student Man this thing is big. I am a photography student taking my first portraiture class. I had read about the light from these octagonal softbox. even though I knew what 49 inches was it didn't register until I assembled it. The same day I received this I did my assignment shoot. I used this as my fill light and my brand new 20 beauty dish received say order. I was surprised at how much light this produced and had to power down my light. First assembly was a bit rough for a newbie stand out in the middle of the desert on a dark chilly night but over came it pretty quickly. I am sure future assemblies will be much fast. I have only used once since it really big so make sure you are not space challenged. Did I mention that this thing is big. I also had to use with a C-stand and some leg weights. Regular light stand felt like it would tip too easy outdoors.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful light modifier, but... The build quality is there, for an inexpensive product I expected much worse and was pleasantly surprised. I would prefer to see velcro in place of snaps for the inner baffle. After reading the other reviews I'll be mindful when removing the inner baffle. So far no problems after a few set ups and tear downs. The quality of light is fantastic. Nice wrap to this octa with very soft shadows. So here's the BUT: I am using this with a PCB Einstein and the depth and size of the octabox does NOT center the weight over the stand and places it solely on the locking knob of the Einstein. When mounting this for the first time, as any of us would, I tightened the knob on the strobe and when mounted, the bank took a nose dive which means crank the lock knob some more which means I'll be replacing the locking knob on the light before too long. I had it mounted with the grid on at one point with no problem, this time but you can hear the stress it puts on the light when you overtighten (Mr. Squeekers). What happens is you have to tighten a little more each time until the lock knob eventually strips out or busts the stand mount on the strobe. I'm only speaking for the PCB EINSTEIN which is what I use. Your fixture may be able to handle the load. And if it can, you will be pleased with the quality of light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great deep Octa bank Made with strong materials. I had read other reviews before my purchase and was concerned, not I am not! The bank is easy to set up and a very versital light source. You can pull off the front diffusion to get a little harder light if you like. Feathers off very nicely due to deep design. I expect to be using this bank a lot!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I would buy this softbox again. I use this for portraits and product shots. Great wrap around light. Great quality of light. It's a little difficult to assemble. I hope it will get easier after I get it broken in. I do wish the case was a little longer so I didn't have to take the rods out to put it away. Overall I really enjoy using the softbox.
