Impact Duo Deep Small Octagonal Reviews

Excellent Product

It's well built and takes the heat from a 1kw tungsten light. Flash and other cooler sources will work with no problem. The grid functions well and handles the heat too. The light quality is amazing, not too hard or soft. It's quite large and because of its shape it can make your lighting setup front heavy. Some fixtures may not be able handle the weight and make sure you have a heavy duty stand. Instructions are included but it can be a challenge to assemble. It comes with a varying case but the rods have to be removed. If you plan to take it with you this might be a hassle. I was going to send it back but I decided to keep it.

Nice light quality.

Great soft box and reasonably priced. The rods are a little stiff, but no more or less than other soft boxes at this price.

I'm using this in my home studio - I've used it for two portrait sessions so far and it gives a very nice soft diffused light. I bought it bundled with a light on B&H and saved an extra bit of money so that made it a good product and excellent value.

Beautiful light modifier, but...

The build quality is there, for an inexpensive product I expected much worse and was pleasantly surprised. I would prefer to see velcro in place of snaps for the inner baffle. After reading the other reviews I'll be mindful when removing the inner baffle. So far no problems after a few set ups and tear downs. The quality of light is fantastic. Nice wrap to this octa with very soft shadows. So here's the BUT: I am using this with a PCB Einstein and the depth and size of the octabox does NOT center the weight over the stand and places it solely on the locking knob of the Einstein. When mounting this for the first time, as any of us would, I tightened the knob on the strobe and when mounted, the bank took a nose dive which means crank the lock knob some more which means I'll be replacing the locking knob on the light before too long. I had it mounted with the grid on at one point with no problem, this time but you can hear the stress it puts on the light when you overtighten (Mr. Squeekers). What happens is you have to tighten a little more each time until the lock knob eventually strips out or busts the stand mount on the strobe. I'm only speaking for the PCB EINSTEIN which is what I use. Your fixture may be able to handle the load. And if it can, you will be pleased with the quality of light.

Photography Student

Man this thing is big. I am a photography student taking my first portraiture class. I had read about the light from these octagonal softbox. even though I knew what 49 inches was it didn't register until I assembled it. The same day I received this I did my assignment shoot. I used this as my fill light and my brand new 20 beauty dish received say order. I was surprised at how much light this produced and had to power down my light. First assembly was a bit rough for a newbie stand out in the middle of the desert on a dark chilly night but over came it pretty quickly. I am sure future assemblies will be much fast. I have only used once since it really big so make sure you are not space challenged. Did I mention that this thing is big. I also had to use with a C-stand and some leg weights. Regular light stand felt like it would tip too easy outdoors.

Worth the investment

I use this for portraits and product shots. Great wrap around light. Great quality of light. It's a little difficult to assemble. I hope it will get easier after I get it broken in. I do wish the case was a little longer so I didn't have to take the rods out to put it away. Overall I really enjoy using the softbox.

question

will this product fit a chimera speed ring for speedotron ?
Asked by: Larry
If you own a Chimera Octaplus or Modular speedring that has eight (8) rod holes, then yes, your Chimera speedring would be compatible for use with the Impact Luxbanx Duo Deep Small Octagonal Softbox (39 ). The Chimera Octaplus Speed Ring for Speedotron 102, B&H # CHSROS102, or the Chimera Octaplus Speed Ring for Speedotron 202VF, B&H # CHSROS202VF, are the Chimera speedrings for Speedotron strobe lights that would be compatible for use with the Impact Luxbanx Duo Deep Small Octagonal Softbox (39 ).

Can this be used on the Westcott Spiderlite TD6?

Not unless Wescott makes a 8 hole speed ring for the TD6. TD6 appears to only have 4 rod holes in the head.

question

Hi I'm looking at buying this can you tell me will a standard profoto speed ring fit the mount? Thanks
Asked by: Anonymous
I don't want to use the word 'standard' as it is too broad. You need to make sure that the ring accepts 8 poles. Also the rings could be a bit different diameter but I would imagine they all would work. An old iConcept ring with Profoto adapter is about 1/4 smaller than the Impact ring. The nice thing about the Impact ring is that it has two 3/8 -16 threaded holes in addition to the 8 while one has to use the threaded hole as part of the 8 on the iConcept's.
