Parallels PDFM8L-OEM1DVD-EN overview

  • 1Description

Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac (OEM Version) is the upgrade for Parallels Desktop 7, and now features the use of Mountain Lion's Dictation tool across both PC and Mac, drag and drop simplicity for email attachments, and an enhanced Parallels Mobile App for your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

Parallels Desktop for Mac allows you to run Windows apps and programs side-by-side with your Mac OS. Using an Intel-based Mac as your starting point, you can run your favorite PC games, applications or programs from your Mac desktop. No more dual-system rebooting, no more compatibility checks - if it runs on your PC, it should run on Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac.

The Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac adds new features, like a 30% increase in graphics performance compared to previous versions, or a 25% increase in speed when you start, stop and resume Windows. There is also an enhanced Parallels Mobile App (sold separately through the App Store), which allows you to copy-and-paste, enjoy audio, and access your Mac and Windows programs with your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch.

Other enhancements include the option to add Windows apps to the Mountain Lion or Lion Launchpad to quickly launch Mac and Windows apps you use the most, or the ability to enjoy your Retina display with your Windows apps. You can also drag and drop files from the desktop onto the Doc Icons for Outlook or other Windows email clients to add them as email attachments.

Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac takes advantage of Mac OS X Mountain Lion's features and applies them to Windows programs, like support for Launchpad, Dictation, Notification Center and Mission Control. If you ever wanted to experience life with dual systems, this is the program that allows you to do it.

Seamless Simplicity
With Parallels Desktop for Mac, you can run both Windows and Mac OS X Lion applications side-by-side with speed, control and reliability.
Setting up Parallels Desktop for Mac is simple. Bring all your PC programs, documents, photos, music and browser bookmarks to your Mac, then run them all like they were made for your Mac - without rebooting.
Performance and Personalization
Experience as much or as little Windows as you want. Multiple view modes make it possible for you to customize the level of integration between Mac and Windows without compromising performance.

    Parallels PDFM8L-OEM1DVD-EN reviews

Parallels Desktop 8 for Mac (OEM Version) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 121.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent with a few caveats I have used parallels since version 5, and it has always been a great product. I am currently using it with windows 8 on a 2012 iMac with 8gb ram. Now, the one small caveat about P8 is that it can be a resource hog; I had it actually install and reinstall the first time I used it. I use windows 99% of the time for music collection (use tune bite in combination with rhapsody/grooveshark/replay music). Heavy CPU usage, set up with 2 CPU and 3gb ram. That helped a lot, and it ran as if it was on a normal PC/laptop. In short, excellent product, another great advance from Parallels. (Note: written by my son; purchased this as a gift)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seamless operation Just switched from PC to Mac and had a couple of indispensable programs that weren't available in OS X. You do have to have a licensed version of Windows, but older versions are available at a reasonable price if you look around. Parallels installs easily and I like that you can control how much crossover access there is between the Windows and Mac sides. I've maxed out the memory on my Mac, so I haven't noticed any hits to my system performance. The only issue I ran into was slow operation in Windows while installing updates because it only had access to 1Gb of memory (I missed that option when I was setting things up). Once that was fixed, everything's been running great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOVELY Great way to run Windows on my MacBook Air , as well as my Mac Mini at work. Complete integration means I can move files between platforms, open Windows applications from OS X (Mountain Lion in my case) and vice versa. I can set application preferences for file types across platforms. And you can run Windows in it's own Window or integrate it into the Mac workspace. Installation was very easy, no problems at all. Highly recommended. I wrote a detailed review below in case you would like more details on the features.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Computer Science I use Parallels Desktop 8 for my computer science experimentations and utilizing 1 machine as multiple computers. For the short time I've used it I find it very similar to using VMware but with the added option to use Windows' applications within the MacOS itself. This is useful if individuals are having problems with Microsoft Office for Mac. Now you can just use MS Office within windows on a Mac with out the need to jump to a windows computer or reboot your system under BootCamp. So if you spent all that money on that expensive Apple computer you might as well have it be all it can be for you. Be sure to have plenty of additional memory dedicated for the Parallels running operating system(s).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as described Got this along with new MacBook Pro retina to run Windows 8 and Ubuntu. Installed easily through download and it detected the native installed version of Windows 8 running in bootcamp without any problems. Also set up Ubuntu desktop as well. The interface is easy enough and coming from using VMWare the set up was much easier compared to it. Easy enough to configure hardware to suit the needs of the operating system. Definitely recommended if you want to run any other OS on your system or don't want to mess with setting up bootcamp which can be a hassle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Parallels Desktop:An Unexpected Pleasure Parallels came as part of the MacBook bundle. As a lifelong PC/Windows use, I am entering the MAC world for the first time. Being able to run both environments in parallel has really helped in learning the MAC system. I also like that my PC applications do not become conditionally obsolete since I am on the MAC. Great Product, easy to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome and Lightweight I would never have bought this on its own but because it came with macbook air for free, I tried it. And it is far exceeded my expectations. I tried virtual box before, which is a free program that lets you boot windows on your mac, and that was HORRIBLE. This program is lightweight and you would never realize that you're running a windows program on your mac except that it notifies you in the program bar. I love it and now I don't have to hunt someone down with a windows computer when I need to run programs for school.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absolutely Fantastic I have been using Microsoft products since it was necessary to boot up an XT machine with a 5 1/4 floppy disk. I am a very heavy user of Office suite products and QuickBooks. I just installed Parallels, Windows 8, Office Pro 2103, and QuickBooks 2103 on my new Macbook Pro with Retina and I couldn't be happier! It took me a little while to get used to the new commands, but now I can use all of my programs, Mac and Windows based in wonderful harmony! It has really made working on my MBPR a lot of fun.
