Epson DS-50000 Reviews
Very high It Just Works factor
There are few inexpensive options for scanning documents wider than 8.5 inches, and this model was more than I wanted to spend. I considered a cheaper Xerox model, but shied away when reviews mentioned driver compatibility issues (I experienced those headaches with a different Xerox scanner in the past, and didn't want to repeat them). The Epson DS-50000 is built like a tank, and designed to scan open books and other thicker documents. And I've had absolutely no driver issues -- whether using the Epson scanning utility or third party applications. The device goes into standby mode automatically, and wakes up without issue when it's time to scan. I agree with others here that a device at this price point should come with the (currently optional) networking capability. But since I don't need this with my current use case, I'm happy anyway.
Very impressive, and fast
I bought this so we could scan oversized documents that are sometimes fragile, or documents that cannot go through a drum scanner, which is all the print shops offer. It was easy to install on my mac, and I was scanning within a few minutes of taking it out of the box. I can scan two pages in a book side by side at 600 DPI within a matter of seconds. NOTE: This is a large and heavy item. It consumes a lot of desk space because it is 6 inches high with an 18 inch by 25 inch footprint.
Fair medium format scanner
This scanner should come equipped with the optional network module. The most unfortunate thing about this scanner with the network module is the inability to scanner direct to a shared folder or network storage device. Every scan has to be sent to a computer.
I love it!
I'm an illustrator, and I'm in love with scanning entire sheets of artwork in a single scan. Pretty easy to set up and straight foward scanning software .
I purchase the Epson 50,000 to scan student art work. Because I encourage the students usng mutimedia techniques to pay careful attention to the texture they create. When I scanned their art I scanned their 11x17 at 400dpi. This captures not only true colors but the textures also. I haven't downloaded any photos to this computer but if you email me with the subject title Image textures, I'll be happy to send you a photo!
Set up was super easy, it worked great right out of the box. It scans really fast. I have a small engineering office and this works great for scanning 11x17s.
Excellent large-format home scanner
I purchased this scanner to submit 11x17 scans for a drafting class I was taking. After reading the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised that I had no issues or software setups to get things up and running (I have a Mac running Big Sur 11.5). My advice is to bypass the Doc Capture app that automatically opens upon startup, and use the Epson 2 scan app from your applications folder. It lets you make basic setup selections (format, size, dpi, etc) and even advanced adjustments (brightness, contrast, etc.) to fine-tune your scan to your needs.
Great for artists
I bought The Epson WorkForce DS-50000 for scanning original artwork. I had researched for a LONG time to find the right device that would both do a beautiful high rez scan and in large format. It is everything I hoped for. I downloaded VueScan to help with the editing which helped immensely. It worked seamlessly and immediately. I can scan and save the files in JPEG and TIFF. It is easy and quiet. Just a note. It is rather large but of course it does large format so that is to be expected. I'd highly recommend this device!
