Stabilized Normal Prime for APS-C
Delivering a "normal-length" 52.5mm equivalent on APS-C-format E-mount cameras, the E 35mm f/1.8 OSS Lens from Sony is a versatile and lightweight option that will fit a variety of shooting scenarios. It offers a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture for working in difficult lighting conditions and image stabilization also aids in making sharp imagery when shooting handheld.
Optical Design
  • A maximum aperture of f/1.8 offers excellent low-light imaging capabilities along with the ability to create images with a shallow depth of field.
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
  • One extra-low dispersion glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
  • Two aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
Image Stabilization and Autofocus
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
  • An internal focus mechanism contributes to faster, more responsive autofocus, the minimum focus distance of 11.8", and easier handling as the lens does not change in length during use.

question

How would this lens perform on the A7r? Will it have any noticeable distortion running full-frame or is it designed for it?
Asked by: Anonymous
While the 35mm f/1.8 can be used on the Sony a7R, it is not a full frame lens. So, the camera would need to be in the crop sensor mode.

question

Is this lens compatible with the Sony Nex-5N or it needs an adapter? Thanks.
Asked by: Sergio A.
Yes, according to Sony literature, it is compatible with the Nex-5N, as that uses E-mount lenses. No adapter is needed. I use it with an Nex-6 and Sony a6000. I like it very much.

question

Can this be used with the Sony a57?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS Alpha E-mount Prime Lens is not compatible with the Sony Alpha SLT-A57 DSLR Digital Camera. The Sony Alpha SLT-A57 DSLR Digital Camera has a Sony A-mount (Minolta MAXXUM lens mount), while the Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS Alpha E-mount Prime Lens uses the newer, smaller Sony E-mount. There is no adapter that would allow you to connect the above lens onto the Sony SLT-A57 DSLR camera.

question

35mm f1.8 vs 50mm f1.8 which one should i buy to take pictures of my kids and outdoors. I have researched and cannot decide which one will b the best to buy. what are the pros and cons?
Asked by: Anonymous
Both lenses will perform similarly in terms of aperture speed, so the main question is which focal length would be more practical for you. Non- full frame NEX cameras feature a APS-C sized sensor, so each focal length would be multiplied by 1.5x. This would make the 35mm a 50mm equivalent (good for most general situations, scenery). Your 50mm would be about an 85mm equivalent (good for portraits, slightly more pronounced bokeh, and maintaining more camera/subject distance). I would recommend the 35mm, unless you plan on doing mainly portraiture. It would be the more versatile choice. But again, what works is mainly dictated by your shooting style.
