Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Overview

Take on ultra-wide landscapes or tight interiors with your APS-C-format E-mount camera by using the E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Lens from Sony. Delivering a super wide 15-27mm equivalent zoom range, and offering a constant f/4 aperture, this lens can produce high-quality images in a variety of difficult scenarios. The implementation of one Super ED and three aspherical elements further guarantees image quality by minimizing aberrations throughout the range. Also, the lens is equipped with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for reducing the effects of camera shake.

Beyond these features, the lens also features an internal focus design that enables fast, responsive autofocus and a minimum focus distance of 9.8". Additionally, it has a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

Designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this ultra-wide angle 10-18mm lens will provide a 15-27mm equivalent zoom range.
A constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also lends greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field techniques.
One Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
An internal focus mechanism contributes to faster, more responsive autofocus, the minimum focus distance of 9.8", and easier handling as the lens does not change in length during use.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

I’m flirting with the idea of picking up a few lenses when I order/Buy the Sony A6600. So I’m a little curious as to would it be better to pick up this lens for that 900$ price tag. Or would it be better to save some coin and invest in the sigma 16mm F1.4 and a few other lenses? I’m just unsure of the route to take when comes to wide angles
Asked by: ValorFlame
The Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS lens is an excellent wide zoom to consider to give you more control over your angle of view. However, if a larger aperture is more important, going with the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for Sony E is a better option for low light shooting.

Even though it will be cropped down in crop mode and the MP will drop to 26mp, will it still be a worth it lens to get as an ultra wide while mounted to the a7RIV? Or would it be more better to just pick up the sigma 14-24mm 2.8?
Asked by: nicholas
Sigma 14-24mm 2.8 will be the best choice here ... I do own a 14-24mm f/2.8 for my Nikon bodies and it is a workhorse ... I use it to shot real estate, vehicles, restaurants and maternity portraits ... The Sony 10-18mm f/4 is used on a Sony A6500 mostly for video ... and as a cropped lens and camera go they fit perfectly ... I also own a Sigma 15mm Fisheye and it also is a great lens ... your Sony A7 RIV will deliver better images with the right lenses ... I am Ullaphoto on the web and there are many wide angle images at my site ... Good luck.

question

how will this look on a Sony FS5?
Asked by: Donell
We assume your asking what filed of view it would have? if so, then it would be a 15-24mm 35mm equivalent.

question

Can this lens be used with the a7III even though it's not a full frame lens?
Asked by: Maurice
Hi Maurice W, Yes this lens will work on the A7iii. However you must set the camrea to APS-C mode or you will experience vinetting in your image (you can set the camera to do this autamgically). APS-C mode will also reduce the resolution of the image. Ralph
