Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Overview

Take on ultra-wide landscapes or tight interiors with your APS-C-format E-mount camera by using the E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Lens from Sony. Delivering a super wide 15-27mm equivalent zoom range, and offering a constant f/4 aperture, this lens can produce high-quality images in a variety of difficult scenarios. The implementation of one Super ED and three aspherical elements further guarantees image quality by minimizing aberrations throughout the range. Also, the lens is equipped with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for reducing the effects of camera shake.

Beyond these features, the lens also features an internal focus design that enables fast, responsive autofocus and a minimum focus distance of 9.8". Additionally, it has a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

Designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this ultra-wide angle 10-18mm lens will provide a 15-27mm equivalent zoom range.
A constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also lends greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field techniques.
One Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
An internal focus mechanism contributes to faster, more responsive autofocus, the minimum focus distance of 9.8", and easier handling as the lens does not change in length during use.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Easy to order, exactly as advertised. I rely on reviews, write ups, and spec pages to make sure I'm getting what I pay for. This lens is perfect for real estate photography and landscapes.

This lens does a very good job for wide angle shots, and also creates some very good bokeh as well.

At last, at last is the lens on my A6300 and A6100.

Pricey, but Indispensable

OK, maybe not indispensable. I suppose you could carry a 10 or 12mm prime and an 18mm and swap back and forth and ignore that big gap in the middle, but if you're a fan of wide, this is a sweet lens. Nicely made and finished, it just WORKS. The only downside is the price, but you'll only regret that when you write the check. You'll thank yourself every time you use it.

This is a fantastic wide angle zoom for APS-C. Quick to focus, tack sharp and great for landscape photography and video.

Small & lightweight at the cost of soft edges

I've been using this lens for the past 7 years with the A6000 and A6400. This is a fantastically small and lightweight lens that you can carry anywhere but at the cost of soft edges and poor performance for certain kinds of nighttime shooting, such as astrophotography. About 15-20% of each side is stretched out/distorted and soft, and you'll often have to stop down to f8+ to get them acceptable. The center is good, but nowhere near premium lenses. Get this lens if you truly need the smaller size and lighter weight, otherwise there are much better lenses with the choices available today. I had been shooting with Canon gear for about 12 years and I had a full frame Canon kit with all heavy f2.8 lenses & primes. The Canon however was a burden to carry when hiking an average of 10-14 miles with a typical elevation gain of about 4000ft, or when being active/going out with the girlfriend. So I bought the A6000 with this lens and the 18-105. Being able to carry the small Sony with me everywhere with a range of 10-105mm means I have grabbed far more shots than I would have with just the Canon. I sold most of my Canon gear, but in the last 2 years I've been migrating back to more capable lenses such as the Tokina 11-20 f2.8 (which blows the Sony 10-18 away) and Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS + MC11 adapter whenever I can get away with heavier, bulkier gear. I just get better results with them and more shooting capability. I'll still keep the Sony 10-18 but reserve it's use for hiking, kayaking, and going out with the gf.

So far, I love it

First, my use case: - Sony NEX7 - Most photos made in the last 15 years are travel/street/people. - Previously, macro and close in landscape. That said, I really like wide/ultra wide lenses for street photography. My favorite walk-around lens for urban environments has been the Sony 16mm pancake. In conjunction with the NEX7, it's pocketable (if you have large pockets). This lens is very big by comparison. To be honest, it's bigger than I thought it would feel on the NEX. As an f4, it's slower, but the OSS makes it pretty much equivalent, allowing a stop slower shutter speed. I've only had a few hours and three venues with the lens, but I've decided it's a Christmas gift to myself that I will really enjoy growing with! The filter and cleaning kit are totally redundant with things I already have, so I expect I will gift them to another photographer. They had nothing to do with the purchase of the wonderful lens (sorry B&H, I know you meant well)

Both high quality lenses, however they are for different purposes. Not a good comparison in my opinion.

question

is this a u s a warranty lens or is it a grey lens. ??
Asked by: fortunato v c.
In situations where B&H offers both a USA and an imported version of a product, we label each version clearly and explicitly. If a product does not have an indication either way, it is understood to be by default a USA product. In situations where only a USA version is offered it will not be labeled USA.

question

I've read that a regular filter on a wide angle lens can cause vignetting. For a filter for this lens, must I buy a slim filter? (camera is a Sony A6000)
Asked by: Anonymous
Vignetting typically will occur on a lens with a focal length of less than 24mm, and so it is advised to use slim filters with this lens.

question

Can i use this with a Sony A7S or will I get vinegting?
Asked by: Anonymous
As the Sony 10-18mm f/4 OSS Alpha E-mount is designed for Sony APS-C cameras and the Sony Alpha A7S Mirrorless Digital Camera is a full-frame camera, you would either have to use the lens on the camera in the APS-C crop mode (which would reduce the camera's effective resolution to 5.3 megapixels), or in full-frame mode (which will show dark vignetting where the rear of the lens blocks the sensor). In APS-C crop mode, you would not have vignetting; in full-frame mode, you will have vignetting.

Is it weather sealed?
Asked by: Muhammad
I don't remember the exact description at the moment but I have used it in drizzling weather, splashes of water have come my way when taking photos, and I have not had any issues before. Even if it is weather sealed, I would always recommend to cover your gear no matter what.
