Sony E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Overview

Take on ultra-wide landscapes or tight interiors with your APS-C-format E-mount camera by using the E 10-18mm f/4 OSS Lens from Sony. Delivering a super wide 15-27mm equivalent zoom range, and offering a constant f/4 aperture, this lens can produce high-quality images in a variety of difficult scenarios. The implementation of one Super ED and three aspherical elements further guarantees image quality by minimizing aberrations throughout the range. Also, the lens is equipped with Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for reducing the effects of camera shake.

Beyond these features, the lens also features an internal focus design that enables fast, responsive autofocus and a minimum focus distance of 9.8". Additionally, it has a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

Designed for APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this ultra-wide angle 10-18mm lens will provide a 15-27mm equivalent zoom range.
A constant f/4 maximum aperture offers consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also lends greater control over focus position for shallow depth of field techniques.
One Super ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
An internal focus mechanism contributes to faster, more responsive autofocus, the minimum focus distance of 9.8", and easier handling as the lens does not change in length during use.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

At last, at last is the lens on my A6300 and A6100.

For Sony APS-C cameras this is your only Super wide option

The lens is very good and sharp between 10-14mm from edge to edge, then at16-18mm only the center area is sharp unless you stop it down to F11. If you only be using it in the super wide 10-14mm settings then you have a good super wide lens.

Great wide angle

This is one of my favorite lenses for my A6500. There arent many options for a wide angle zoom for APS-C e-mount and considering the price compared to a full frame lens at twice the price this produces some terrific quality photos.  Its not without its caveats though. barrel distortion is pretty obvious and vignetting can get bad on occasion. lightroom RAW corrections help but it still shows somewhat. In my opinion this is to be expected for such a wide angle. The lens is pretty sharp for what its designed for but dont expect a 100% crop to be overly usable.  the design is well done, its very compact and can even be stuffed into a big enough pocket if thats your thing. all functions are smooth and precise. Auto focus works great, especially with the touch focus on the A6500. Expect it to hunt some in low light though. Having said all that Sony had to cut corners somewhere to meet the price point and considering the inherent issues that come with wide angle zoom I dont really hold any of the listed issues against it.  I think this is a terrific lens and Ive gotten some of my best shots with it. My only real complaint is not about the lens itself, the lens cap is junk. Its so low profile with no real grip to speak of that I find myself dropping or almost dropping it a lot. I much prefer Sigmas lens caps that are squared off and raised with texture for added grip.

Okay for 4k, not okay for photo..

Im a nikon full frame guy, so to me switching to sony crop is a bit awkward, but Im doing this only for video capabilities of a6500 and the features it gives you with its native optics. From that perspective the setup is pretty good, despite the rolling shutter in 4k and the horrible pixel binning in FHD (shame on you Sony!), the video is quite good, AF on this lens is fast, responsive and precise, OSS is also amazing. The lens (with the camera) is very light (about 700 gm), the material feels premium and the design looks modern and trendy. So the video you get from this camera if quite good. Things get ugly when you switch to photo. With a little deeper study you start to see that the lens is not sharp at all, lacking resolution on the edges and giving a lot of chromatic aberrations. There is a small amount of pincushion distortion at any focal length, which is acceptable (even for video). At f4 the lens is quite dark, which becomes apparent when you see how much grain you get on a cropped sensor. The price... Its too high for the specs you get and china assembly. Dont get me wrong, but Sony prices this lens as pro level, but it hardly can produce pro level image. Overall, its a good product, which is in conjunction with aps-c sensor is full of compromises. If its photography youre buying it for, think twice. For video, depending on the genre, this might be a good option.

I bought the Sony a6000 as a backup camera to create time-lapses and of course this lens was recommended by a lot of reviewers, this is the only APS-C i have for this camera and it’s really good actually.

Great lens!

Small, light, sharp, fast and accurate AF, OSS - what more could you ask? A cheaper price, perhaps - but well worth it if you are a serious photographer.

This is an amazing lense for the Sony Emount users

Not great but acceptable

The lens is very sharp at every focal lengths in the center area but wide open and even one stop down is soft close to the edges. At F8 it is a good lens, so I keep it since most of the time I use F8. I had a lot better lenses in this range (for my Nikons), which were sharp from edge to edge even wide open.
