Sleek and Retractable Standard Zoom
An ideal companion for your compact, APS-C mirrorless camera, the black E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens from Sony offers a versatile equivalent zoom range of 24-75mm as well as a retractable design that makes your system much more manageable when not in use. The useful focal length range and portable form factor make this a go-to lens when traveling or for everyday general shooting needs.
Form Factor and Optical Design
  • A variable aperture of f/3.5-5.6 helps keep the lens' overall size and weight to a minimum.
  • Due to a retractable design, this lens can be made to be extremely compact when not in use.
  • One extra-low dispersion glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
  • Four aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
Power Zoom, Image Stabilization, and AF
  • Power Zoom mechanism enables making smooth zoom movements, suitable for video recording, via the on-lens switch or via camera-based controls on select camera bodies.
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can also be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
  • An internal focus design contributes to fast autofocus speeds and the minimum focus distance is just 9.8", suiting working with close-up subjects.

I had one of these with my Sony a6000 and after a year needed a little looking at and was fine, but then I hit it when fully extended, which I know is not much, but buggered it up. I have had the lens for five years and it had more life left in it if I wasn't such a clutz. My wife asked why I bought another one. This one to replace it - I have other lenses. But I use this lens A LOT! I love it.

I like this lens a lot. I am a bit of a wide angel junky and this does the trick for everyday work. I use it a lot, but when I am shooting 'for real' I use my fixed lenses. It wobbles a bit, and the first one I had needed to be sent back to be tightened up, but worked like a champ until it was knocked accidentally when fully etended against a rock. Totally my fault. But use it enough to replace it for sure!

I love it! Good I like

Allows me to move quickly and smoothly from wide angle to close up when doing landscapes, cityscapes and portraits. This is my second one as the original got damaged after years of travel and use in all sorts of weather and conditions. It makes for a compact camera-lens package.

FANTASTIC LENS

This little compact lens is totally amazing. It is so compact and makes it easy for me to take it everywhere on my A-6000 camera, strapped to my belt. The images are tack sharp and the range is great. Service was exceptional with B&H as usual and I will never buy another camera or lens anywhere else. How can one company like B&H be so consistantly the best out there? I know that they work hard at being the best and that is exceptional.

Not sure what a GP grip is - I use this lens in a Nauticam underwater housing on my Sony. So there is no specialized grips able to attach to camera.

Will OSS work on A7r iii?
Asked by: Anurag
If your lens has a built-in Optical Steady-Shot (OSS) stabilization, yes, it would be compatible for use when used on the Sony Alpha a7R III Mirrorless Camera. Do note the OSS switch on the lens must be set to [ON]; you cannot use the camera menu to turn ON/OFF image stabilization when a lens with OSS is attached to the camera, so use the switch on the lens instead.

question

does this lens have a lens hood?
Asked by: Anonymous
the odd thing is that Sony's help manual says We recommend that you use the lens hood to prevent light outside the shooting frame fromaffecting the image. (p. 47). What's up with that??
