    Nikon MB-D14 reviews

MB-D14 Multi Battery Power Pack is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 150.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Grip but Room for Improvement Pros: - Extended battery life. Especially useful when you are on travel and can pop in extra AA batteries when charging the camera's battery is not an option. Even in exotic countries, you will always find AA batteries. - Add weight to the camera which makes it more balanced and stable for shooting. - Secure fit, high-quality materials. - Fits like a glove in portait mode Cons: - It is an add-on and doesn't blend well with the camera body. - On the lower right hand side, the grip extends far more than, for example, the MB-D11 for the D7000, and gets in the way of the righ hand pinky. This makes long shooting sessions of filming very uncomfortable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't be cheap I purchased it for my D600 and it's perfect. No wiggle room, no rattling of any kind. I have owned and used most of the other generic grips and they do not compare to this guy. Unlike the generic grips, the MB feels solid and the buttons are nice and tight. The MB weights more than the generic grips because of it's magnesium alloy built but this is not a con. I find that the added weight on the butt helps balance the camera now that the body is extended. The counter weight is noticeably helpful when using my heavier 1.4 lenses. Of course, I only learned this after going the cheap route first.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from MB-D14 Battery Pack I am not as happy with this battery pack as I have been with the last two I have owned. It should be renamed vertical grip because that is more of what it is. It, in and of itself, is not a multiple battery pack. Granted, it does allow for multiple batteries, however, only one is in the grip. The second battery is still in the camera, which means if and when it needs recharging you have to remove the Power Pack to access it. Being able to put both batteries in the vertical grip, like the D100 and D200 I have been using, makes much more sense. I do love the feel and versatility the grip adds, just accessing both batteries could have been better thought out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Complete the D600 A good extension of D600 body to allow vertical shutter release and focal point shift. It's very instinctive as how to use it, the option for 6 AA is a plus when your EN15 is out of juice. Like its sibling serving the D800, its pricy consider the function it provides. I am aware of off brand products that cost as much as one third of the Nikon unit, but beware of the following: they don't have the proper code for Nikon firmware to operate, and could operate on a higher voltage that at the minimum drain your battery faster, or create higher electrical resistance that will shorten the component life. Plus, the construction standard is quite different.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Why so expensive? For the life of me I can't figure out what would make this worth what it is. Why is it nearly $ I wish I didn't need it but I do. It's a very solid construction and feels great in the hands however there are a few things that I do not like about it. The navigational buttons are TINY! The other thing that do not like is that the grip only holds one battery and to access the second battery I have to take off the grip to take out the one in the camera. That does not seem like a bright idea. When I have the grip on, I do not want to take it off at all. It is nice to have the additional shutter button and wheels at my fingertips, but that's the only thing that I like about it. Really, it shouldn't be this much money for something like this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You get what you pay for The MB-D14 is a good product at a fair price. It's solid in-hand with the heaviest of lenses, and there's no question of compatibility. Gripes include: it could be shaped more to blend with the camera body more, and the shutter button is not have a 100% feel vs. the D600. Maybe it needs to be broken in. Not perfect; but overall, it's worth the money over a 3rd party. Background: I had purchased the Vello grip based on reviews and was extremely disappointed. The knock-off didn't fit well (not flush) and it flexed under the weight of a 24-70 f2.8. It's not to be trusted. I returned/exchanged it for the real deal here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOT too big for small hands & NOT heavy I hesitated to buy this because I rarely drain a Nikon battery and I was afraid that it would make the D600 too heavy and clunky. I did, however, want the convenience of the vertical controls and was hoping that this item would balance out the small D600 body with larger, heavier lenses like the 70-200mm f/2.8. I absoultely LOVE this grip! It defintely balances out the body. Mine matches up well on both sides/edges and has the same finish as the D600. I am a petite female with small hands and this grip is not too big...in fact, I like the feel of the D600 better with the grip and barely notice any difference in the weight of my camera. I took another reviewers advice and just keep my Nikon battery in the grip itself, rather than in the camera body and just carry the extra battery that I have with me...this way I don't ever have to remove the grip. I absolutely love this product and wish that I had not waited so long to buy it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Typical Nikon accessory quality Nikon makes great grips as usual, and its right at home on my D610. I've used battery grips on the D200 and D300 before so this is quite familiar. It makes holding the camera much more comfortable, especially for those with larger hands. It also balances the camera body much nicer when using larger or heavier lenses. The only reason for 4 stars is I notice just a hair of play in the grip, something that I don't remember happening with previous generations of grips. All in all, I'd buy it again and Nikon brand grips are definitely the way to go.
