Digital Juice FRESNEL1 overview

  • 1Description

The Helios 3-Point Lighting Kit from Digital Juice offers a total of 1600W of light in a portable, compact kit that is equally at home in the studio or on the road. The kit includes one 300W and two 650W Fresnel luminaires. A simple turn of the worm-gear driven knob on the back of the fixtures regulates the smooth transition from spot to flood beam angles. You can reduce power with an optional scrim kit or by the in-line dimmer that's built into the Helios 300's 11' power cord. All three lights include barndoors for shaping the light as well as a sturdy 8.0' light stand. It all fits in the supplied heavy-duty, wheeled kit case.

The 3.2" Fresnel lens of the Helios 300 and the 4.3" Fresnel lens of the Helios 650 produces a soft, even light field which is adjustable from spot to flood.
The included 4-leaf barndoors alter the shape and direction of the light. The heat-resistant, rotatable barndoors attach easily to the front of the light and the four leaves can be adjusted to shape light so that it falls only on the desired areas of the set.
The yoke has a 5/8" (16mm) receiver that accepts any "Baby" (5/8") stud.
Both the Helios 300 and the Helios 650 have 11' power cords attached with an inline power switch. The Helios 300 also includes an inline dimmer control.
The attractive, heavy-duty Helios 3-Point Lighting Kit carry bag has wheels for easy transport, carry handles on top and sides and a business card pocket for easy identification when travelling. It has interior zippered pockets for small accessories, as well as reconfigurable touch-fastener pads to protect the lights and accessories inside.
The kit contains 3 easy-setup, heavy-duty light stands with 5/8" top studs.

    Digital Juice FRESNEL1 reviews

Helios 3-Point Lighting Kit is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Way overpriced for quality This kit is way overpriced for the quality of lights. These LOOK like Arri, these FEEL like Arri, and they WORK exactly like Arri. For three days. The barn doors loosen extremely easily, the stands are worse than those 5 dollar chinese * knockoff stands, the lights are not durable at all. The glass in one of the fresnels cracked because digital juice does not know how to properly make glass that is heat safe. The knobs all feel really cheapy. So, this kit is good because of the price? No. This should cost 500-600 dollars because if you have 1000+ dollars for a lighting kit, go with Lowel, or Impact, or anything else and build a descent kit.I bought an Arri kit of 1000W, 650W, 650W, 300W, and Chimera Softbox all with the case, gloves, scrims, barn doors, Arri stands, everything for $1700 off of *, used, and they are in excellent condition, and work perfectly.Basically if you have 500 dollars more, you can have a real Arri FOUR light kit. And for 1200? Either buy a used Arri 3 light kit, or buy some Lowel kit.Highlight Unreliable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works for me. I do small productions but these have also been used to light up high end interviews for another company that hires me. Yes, the case is not built well, I've already replaced the handled with larger washers since it pulled through the fabric but the lights themselves work fine and I haven't had any issues with them. 5 stars if DJ would take more time in the case.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Arri like kit, without the build quality While the kit might look like an Arri, the build quality of its parts is extremely poor and frustrating. Of course no one should expect Arri like results at half the price, but the faults of this particular kit make it borderline unusable. First off, the case that these lights come in is not very durable. The fabric handles are already tearing at the seams, the wheels have sunk into the body, and the plastic handle used to wheel the case has completely fallen off making it almost impossible to transport at this point. Second, when it comes to the included stands, you really have to be careful not to overtighten. The design of these is slightly different than a comparable Impact stand, which displaces the pressure at the tightening points. On these stands if you overtighten you'll end up denting the shaft which will ultimately ruin the mechanics of it. Lastly, the lights themselves. The output of the lights is perfectly fine. The chassis housing the lights is also very solid. It's the build of the rest of it that is suspect. The barn doors quickly become loose and won't stay in position without constant tightening with some sort of wrench or multitool. Same goes for the tightening knob that adjusts the tilt of the light. And the yokes for mounting and tightening to the stand are flimsy (1 has completely broken). So don't plan on using these lights at all if you don't have a leatherman or some other set of tools on hand so that you can constantly fix and adjust. Oh, and I stacked 2 scrims in one light only to watch them start to smoke and emit some noxious odor. So I haven't tried them again. I do mention that the pricing is a Pro for this kit, however that's only in comparison to what it's trying to emulate (the Arri kit). You could build a much better kit out of other brands for around the same price, which I advise doing. I've used all sorts of pro lighting throughout the entire range of the budget spectrum. Believe me, I knew what to expect with a budget kit like this. However, even those low expectations weren't even close to being met.
