Print Speeds

Print an 8.0x10" image in approximately 51 seconds and an 11x14" image in approximately 1 minute 30 seconds
Canon FINE Technology
Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) features a patented print head that enables printing with microscopic droplets and high resolution up to 4800 x 2400 dpi
True Monochrome Prints
The 3 monochrome inks which are part of the 8-ink ChromaLife 100+ system consist of Black, Gray, and Light Gray. These inks deliver enhanced, deep black density to raise your level of professional print quality when creating the dramatic expression of grayscale photography
Optimum Analysis & Mixture Of Color
The Optimum Image Generating (OIG) System utilizes two major technologies that were first introduced in the PIXMA PRO-1. The first is a sophisticated mixing balance of inks determined from numerous ink combinations and advanced analysis. During this analysis, the OIG System carefully calculates the best results for each print mode and paper type used while looking at various image factors including color reproduction, tonal gradations, black density, low graininess, glossiness, anti-bronzing and anti-metamerism. These critical ink balancing principles are derived from Canon's expertise in imaging technology, as well as the familiar colors of life that people see and remember on a daily basis. The second is the balancing of color reproduction, tonal gradations, and uniform glossiness. The genius and power of the OIG System is truly showcased when your image is printed, exhibited, and is seen exactly as you envisioned it
Pro Printing
The powerful Print Studio Pro plug-in software provides professional photographers effective printing solutions and can directly hand-over image data. Print Studio Pro is compatible with Digital Photo Professional (ver. 2.1 or later), Adobe Photoshop CS, Photoshop Elements, and Photoshop Lightroom
Built-In CD & DVD Printing
Conveniently print onto your printable CD, DVD or Blu-ray discs and jackets

The built-in Wi-Fi gives you the freedom to place the printer where it's convenient and allows multiple users to seamlessly print from several computers

Before reviewing this printer I would like to briefly present my photographic background.I have been a professional photographer since 1972. My career began in photojournalism. I have a BFA in film production. I studied with Ansel Adams, I was a Master Printer using silver-based conventional printing until I completely switched to digital printing in 2005. After receiving my degree I began a career in commercial photography, primarily in advertising/corporate assignments. Additionally I founded a digital effects company in 1991.I am now semi-retired from assignment photography and I am primarily producing fine-art. I am represented in several galleries. As you may expect, my standards in reproduction are extremely high and unforgiving. I received my printer today at 1:00 PM. It is now 6:00PMAfter unpacking the gear carefully I began the setup process. I downloaded the current driver and software from the Canon website. Do not use the supplied discs as the most current software and drivers are online.I did my initial setup on a Mac, however I also use Windows-based computers and I have not yet configured them. The set-up was trouble-free as was the WIFI configuration. Please note: You must first connect the printer to your computer via the USB cable prior to linking up with your network.I primarily print in black and white, however I did my first print in color on the supplied package of Canon 8.5X11 Pro Luster paper. My monitor is calibrated using a pantone digital screen calibrator. I allowed the printer to manage colors using Adobe RGB color space on the file. The first print was dead nuts perfect. Perfect! There was absolutely NO color shift from my screen. I did a second color print with some very minor sharpening and increased the saturation by 15%. THE SECOND PRINT WAS STUNNING!Now says I, "Let's really see what this printer can do."My second print was in black and white, using Epson Signature Grade Hot Press Natural 18mil cotton fiber paper in smooth matte finish 8.5X11.To put it mildly I was poleaxed. The gradations were utterly smooth, detail razor-sharp, deep blacks and stunning whites with no wash-out in the highlights. Now here comes the torture test...I pulled a file of my latest gallery image. The photo was made in during a snowstorm, under an overcast sky of a vintage automobile on an old unused railroad bridge. The bridge is bordered by heavy woods, which were in deep gloom. The car, tracks and bridge were covered by a medium dusting of snow. Yeah baby, Zone System hell right?I chose MOAB Somerset Enhanced Velvet 225 weight fine-art paper 11X17. I applied NO icc profile whatsoever. The file was gray scale 20% dot gain. I allowed the printer to manage the colors only using a slight sharpening of the file.Without the slightest exaggeration, the print took my breath away. It was literally three dimensional in certain areas between highlight and shadow. The finest details that were absolutely lost on prior Epson prints were breathtaking. This first print was so stellar I am pulling the gallery print of this image and re-framing it with this print. Candidly, the difference between this print and the one on display, is simply an embarrassment. With the rebate and the free pack of 50 sheets of Canon 13X19 paper I paid $ for this printer. My prior Epson printer, which I was planning to relocate to my country home will now be donated elsewhere. I have used this Epson printer since 2006 and producing acceptable prints has been an ongoing case of heartburn, wasted paper and ink. Additionally the Canon printer is almost totally silent, smooth and built with the highest quality. The Epson is a bad joke in comparison.I give the Canon PIXMA Pro-100 my highest possible recommendation with no reservation whatsoever.

Purchased this printer after the recent price drop, and rebate program.

First printer arrived and did everything but put ink on the paper.

CANON sent a replacement print head which did not resolve the problem.

CANON then sent a replacement printer and an extra full set of ink.

    New printer works great.

Thank you CANON for the bonus / extra ink.

Only complaint with the printer would be that the black Ink tank isn't any larger then the other tanks, the envelope handling isn't great, and it has no enclosed paper tray. You need to constantly remove and insert paper if you want to keep dust out.

I use this as a multi-function printer, if your intent is simply for photo printing, most of those issues don't apply.

    Excellent Printer

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

I purchased this printer to replace a Pixma Pro 9000 MkII that failed after many years of service and thousands of beautiful prints. Because of my history with the 9000, my expectations were high and am happy to report that this printer lives up to them. Canon wisely chose to replace the the red and green inks of the 9000 with dark and light grey. This results in black and white prints with beautiful tonal range and no apparent degradation in color prints. Using a calibrated monitor and the appropriate color profile for the paper I'm using yields perfect matching between the on screen image and the prints.

    Great Prints!

Printing my best photos from Lightroom. Prints are better than I anticipated. Very crisp. Accurate color. Setup takes time. Has a longer learning curve than any previous printer. Canon's Instructions are hard to read & follow. Biggest problem has been with borderless prints. Solved by printing using Canon's Studio Pro Lightroom plug-in rather than directly from Lightroom. Also, printer did not accept 4x6" paper. Solved by loading more than one sheet into the feeder. As I learn these "tricks", I like this printer more & more.

I have been using the PRO-100 for 13 x 19 prints of skies and landscapes taken in Taos, NM this summer.
It was easy to set up and has produced as good a print as I can shoot.
If I have neglected to open a flap, or close one, it provides meaningful feedback, promptly, so I am not scratching my head as to what is not working.

A serious printer for serious prints

    By Mosfet

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

The Canon printers set the bar high for quality of prints and this one did not disappoint. The sublty of gray rendering is better due to the aditional gray ink. and this leads to better resolution of subtle color differences. The type of paper one uses also has influence on this. And while the Canon paper is what I use for glossy images, the more artistic images are done on fine art papers. Primarily the flat sheen papers. While I was a little hessitant about buying this one after buying a Canon printer with similar resotion not that long ago, this one handles some of the more subtle and difficult images a bit better. However both printers will be seeing use, ths one a bit more dedicated to just images.

This is also a little more complex on finer setups as you can make a few adjustments on this printer that you cannot do on other printers. Moab also makes availalbe ICC profiles for their papers on their website which work with their papers very well, and this is one of the printers they make them available for. Canson "Infinity" papers do very well as well as you can see in the images..

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

I am a watercolor artist who bought this printer to make prints of my work for sale. I spent about 3 hours trying to calibrate the printer for heavy mat paper for cards, etc., but never achieved results that were better than my 5 year old, $39 HP. Then I switched to photo paper and it was like magic. So far I like this printer. Having photo paper for superior quality may be a must.

    Better than I expected

    By Jerry

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

I haven't had many of the images that I shoot printed, and the few that I have were done by retail chains, not a custom photo lab. From the first print that came out of the Pixma Pro 100, I've been blown away by how much more detail there was in the prints. That could be because I'm printing directly from Lightroom, so my RAW files are sent to their printer, vs the JPEGs that I had to send to be printed at the retail chains in the past. Whatever the reason is, I'm so pleased with the quality of the prints that I'm seeing, that I've decided that I don't need to upgrade my camera to get better details in my prints. Even the 13 X 19 inch prints that I've made have been superb.

I had watched an instructional video about setting this printer up before I purchased it, so the set-up was relatively easy, and went without a single glitch.

I'm giving the printer only four stars, and that has nothing to do with the quality of the prints it produces, but because of how quickly it goes through ink, and the price of replacement cartridges. I can see that I'll be spending a lot of money on ink in the future, but to me, the results are worth it.

again 4 stars because you cannot really print on matt paper.

a part form the above mentioned limitation I'm happy with the printer especially if you consider the price after the discount. Ink cartridges are a bit small and ink usage a bit...unbalanced if I compare it with my old printers: for 1 cartridge of M, 1 of C, 2 of PC 2 of Y 2 of PM about 1.5 of BK 3 of GY and 4 of LGY!!

I print on semi glossy type of paper and about 15-20% of what I print is B&W

Get it - if you can get it bundled w/ a big discount or free

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

If you get the opportunity to get this for free (or for a significantly reduced price) with a Canon bundle...don't hesitate! That's how I got mine, when I purchased a qualifying Canon camera. Basically look at it like this...use up the color ink then use it as a super high quality black and white printer on the cheap! You can't loose! If you choose to purchase ink in the future...that's where the big cost comes. But I don't plan on doing that. I mean...if you have the budget and can buy this outright go for it. But there is usually a deal you can find for these.

As far as the unit itself. This thing is FAST! Colors are accurate. Super high quality prints. It's not quite borderless, but its pretty close (maybe I didn't do the settings right - either way, it was super easy to trim the edges with a xacto). Make sure you have space for this, as it's probably twice as big as your normal home printer. But if you're looking at this printer, you probably already know what you're getting into.

As photographers many of us are looking to find the most affordable way to produce prints. Living in rural Oklahoma does not afford one the luxury of having many options in this regard. So I picked up this printer to give it a test. So far I'm overly thrilled by the quality of prints that this printer provides. Paired with Canon photo paper this printer provides high quality photos for an affordable price point. Couldn't be happier with my purchases 10/10.... Would purchase again

Comments about Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer:

Purchased the PRO-100 to replace my Epson R2880, which was regularly giving me clogged nozzles. This is a dye-based ink printer, and is reported to not have the same problems as pigment ink printers, especially if you regularly print nozzle checks.

I'm very pleased with the quality of the prints. Let me give you a few pointers about matching your prints to your display. First, search for Jose Rodriguez on YouTube. Many very helpful videos about using this and other printers.

The key to matching your print colors to your display is to calibrate the display. I use the ColorMunki, which Jose also endorses. Out of
the box, no display produces accurate colors. Once you've done that, the next step is to adjust display brightness and contrast to match your prints. Takes time, patience and a bit of trial and error.

I see a lot of complaints about prints being darker than what's on the computer display. Calibrating the display doesn't totally solve that problem, because most people don't inspect their prints under the correct lighting conditions. Keep in mind that your display is back lit, and in most cases very bright, while the reflected light you're seeing from your print cannot be that bright unless you're viewing it under sunlight. I've found that using a daylight color balanced light fixture, like the Ott Light, will make my prints match the computer display very closely.

My next recommendation is to download the newest printer drivers directly from Canon; don't use the installation discs that come with the printer or you'll have a ton of bloatware. I use the 16-bit driver, which has the designation XPS.

I also recommend that you get the Canon Print Studio Pro plugin (from the Canon website) for printing from Lightroom and Photoshop. It's more intuitive than using the LR and PS print modules. If you choose to print on Canon paper, you don't need to use or create paper profiles; PSP applies those automatically. For the details, search for Jose's video on that topic. I personally prefer other papers, such as Epson, Moab and Red River, and create paper profiles using my ColorMunki. Using those profiles is very easy using PSP.

Another advantage of the Print Studio is that you can create custom paper sizes. I've seen complaints about some standard paper sizes not being supported by the printer driver, and it's true, but it's not a problem with Print Studio.

What are introductory ink cartridges included as standard with the printer?

What are the additional 8 ink cartridges you are also providing? Are they the standard canon cartridges for this printer?
    Dick on Nov 16, 2013
Best Answer: The Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Wireless Professional Inkjet Photo Printer comes with a full set of ink tanks. Canon calls them "set up" tanks because they would be the first set used in the printer. The included tanks have 13ml of ink and the replacement set has the same volume of ink.

There seems to be a disparity, between Steven C and Dan W of B&H, regarding the ink cartridges supplied ("starter" cartridges). I may be misreading, but one answer said the provided inks contain about 1/3 the volume of the "standard" cartridges; the other answer implied, I think, that the supplied cartridges were the "full size." Which is it?
    mshlafer on Jan 7, 2014
Best Answer: The printer comes with starter inks. These are enough to prime the system with a little ink left over for some printing.

I am a pro photographer and my size of choice for my images is 8x12. I typically use MPIX Pro (ROES) for all of my images, and use Fuji Pearl papers. Will this printer make 8x12 images specificially? This is very important, as 90% of my images would be this size. I have been reading that it has "standard" settings. I NEVER use 8x10, hate that size. 8x12 is crucial for me. Can this printer do that?
    Sheila on Sep 3, 2014
Best Answer: You have the ability to add custom sizes, like 8x12 to your printer settings.

How many sheets I could print with the setup ink tank? or I need to buy ink tanks by my self?
    shiliang f on Dec 8, 2014
Best Answer: Cartridge yields vary considerably for reasons including images printed, print settings, temperature and humidity. Yields may be lower when printing infrequently or predominantly with one ink color. A variable amount of ink remains in the cartridge. Because of this, Canon does not publish average ink yield for this printer. However, they do say you will have enough ink to be able to print a good amount once the ink system has been primed.

Regarding February 2016 Rebate .... the website states a $250 rebate, however, Canon's rebate pdf form states $200. Which is it??
    Susan M on Feb 11, 2016
Best Answer: The $250 rebate is for the printer and paper combination - it's at the bottom of the 2nd page on the rebate form.
The printer purchase from B&H includes the paper for free, which makes the purchase eligible for the $250 combination rebate.

With the standard 13x19 paper, how do you set it up to print smaller prints (eight or twelve 4x6 or two 8x10)? I would hate to buy this, and only be able to get one print off each sheet.
    Jay on Mar 29, 2014
Best Answer: One way to prints multiples is just using the Canon Print Pro software that comes with the printer, as it has provision to print multiple images on one sheet of paper. The printer of course, can handle various size papers anyway. I recently cut one of my 13 x 19 sheets that came with the printer, so I could test it against other papers of which I had 8 x 10, so I could decide what additional papers to buy, so I guess you can always cut a sheet too, but multiple prints per page can be done, just need software that supports that. Also Corel Paint Shop pro will do multiples too. The benefit of that software is that each print on a page can be a different size, but I could not find that flexibility with the other software.

Would I also be able to use this printer for some office printing, like envelopes and file/return address labels?? Perhaps I'd be better off with the ip8720. Is the print quality comparable between the two? I see the max dpi with the 8720 is 9600x2400 vs. 4800 x 2400 for the Pro-100... albeit with FINE technology. does that make the pro100 a better photo printer????
    Sarah on Mar 9, 2014
Best Answer: The Pro 100 is able to print labels and envelopes. It does have a "Document" mode so it will use less ink when printing in this mode. The Pro 100 has a wider color gamut and has the ability to print higher quality black/white and color images.

Can one print in gray scale using only black ink on this printer?
    andrzej b on Dec 10, 2014
Best Answer: Printing a Color Document in Monochrome

The procedure for printing a color document in monochrome is as follows:
Select Quality & Media from the pop-up menu on the Print Dialog
Set black and white photo printing
Check the Black and White Photo Print check box.
figure:Black and White Photo Print of Quality & Media in the Print dialog
    Complete the setup
    Click Print.
When you execute print, the document is converted to grayscale data. It allows you to print the color document in monochrome.
    Notes:
*During Black and White Photo Print, gray ink or color inks may be used as well as black ink.
*In order to produce prints, all the cartridges have to be in its place, otherwise, the printer won't work.
*I normally change a color picture to Black and White into an editing application (iPhoto/Aperture)rather than using the printer driver

I need a good printer to primarily print 12x12 prints on cardstock. While I will also do some photographs I will most often be printing on cardstock. Would this printer be overkill if you will? Especially considering the cost of ink? TIA
    Geoffrey M on Feb 3, 2016
Best Answer: I wouldn't consider it overkill. I own two of these, and yes the ink is a bit costly, but it is easy to replace since there are 8 different cartridges, and the individuals aren't too expensive. I use it for many projects, and it is a strong printer from 4x6 through 13x19 prints and card stock. I would say that this is not overkill, its just a good investment for a long term need.
