Nikon 1 SB-N7 overview

  • 1Description

Designed for the Nikon 1 series cameras, the white Nikon 1 SB-N7 Speedlight maintains the camera's compact, well-balanced design, mounting right onto the camera's hot shoe and using Nikon's i-TTL system. With a guide number of 59' at ISO 100, the SB-N7 Speedlight delivers significant lighting power in a small package. Use it as a fill flash to highlight the subtle details of well-lit subjects, even from a distance, or power through a heavily backlit portrait with ease.

The flash head tilts 120° so you can direct the light exactly where you want it: whether that is straight ahead, straight up, backward, or anywhere in-between. It features a coverage angle of 10mm with CX-format cameras and it comes with a wide-flash adapter panel to uniformly spread the flash for use with wide 6.7mm lenses.

When you need more light in a dimly lit interior, or need to fill in the shadows of a backlit portrait, the SB-N7 provides the power and versatility you need for your Nikon 1 series mirrorless camera. It features slow, first and second curtain sync modes for more creative lighting effects. The unit also runs on just 2 AAA batteries with a recycle time of 3.5-30 seconds and comes with a soft case.

Nikon 1 SB-N7 reviews

1 SB-N7 Speedlight (White) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for the Nikon V1 I am very pleased with the quality of the illumination from my new N7 Flash. The unit is very small and light. I use the Energizer lithium AAA batteries. I get fairly fast recycle and the lithium batteries keep the weight to a minimum. It does have power limitations and it can only swivel for horizontal photos but that is a reflection of it's size and weight. More power and features would add size and weight and that is not what the Nikon 1 system is about. I have a Nikon D90 with the 18-200 mm lens. It's a great camera but not something I want to carry all day at Disney or when I'm traveling light. I got the V1 because I wanted something small with excellent image quality and features beyond a point and shoot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much more power I knew going in that this flash did not swivel...if you do your research before buying you will notice that there is no mention of this swivelling and many sites said it did not swivel...and there are ways to work around this...but back to this flash...incredible amount of power...I was bouncing the flash inside a gothic cathedral with good results . I had borrowed a sb-n5 and for me it was underpowered and I did not like the fact that it drew its power from the camera battery...In the Sb-N7 it uses 2 AAA batteries...adds to the weight though and the size of the flash is considerably larger than the sb-N5...Most of the portraits I shoot are the fact that this does not swivel is not a factor to me...I like you can have it set to TTL or manual

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Compact flash with limitations I use this flash on a V1 when I'm not inclined to lug my D800 setup. The unit works as it should, giving good, balanced fill-flash results. The GN is adequate for most situations where a monster flash is not needed. The head tilts to allow bounce lighting, however it does NOT rotate, making bounce lighting (from the ceiling, anyway) impossible when the camera is rotated to portrait position. This is its most serious limitation. There is only an on/off switch on it, so you cannot select the other flash modes supported by most of Nikon's larger speedlights. I don't find this very limiting because I don't use the camera for serious photography. All in all, this flash unit puts out enough power and produces well-illuminated subjects under most conditions. If you're looking for an SB-910 replacement, this isn't it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Accesory for nikon 1 V2 Probably the best accesory you can get for the 1v2. The in camera flash is only useful for fill in or close portraits. This external flash adds a lot of flexibility and is more than adequately powerful for essentially any task. My biggest compliment is how it manages spot on exposures every time. The price is also very affordable. Simply cant say enouuh good things about this simple, powerful and affordable strobe. Personally I would I wouldnt mind touse for indoor photograhy all time!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy this product again and again I'm a advanced amateur. This flash adds desired lighting features to my Nikon1 V2 (which I love. It's Nikon quality, small, light weight, versatile & has excellent photo resolution.).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It is what it is Well i knew going in that this had no great features. It does a good job TTL. It has no CLS! to trigger other flash must use in Manual mode and set other flashes on SU4 mode or use Studio flash with slaves. I use it for general TTl and sometimes as a Slave trigger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for the Nikon 1 series cameras For the small size it is pretty pwerful. I have been using it inside even as a bounce flash with good results. A lot more powerful than the previous SB-N5 flash.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Welcome Increase in Power I was happy to add this to my 1 Nikkor inventory because the SB-N5 was underpowered. This flash has become the primary flash, with the SB-N5 strictly in a backup role. I do wish the 1 Nikon System used the standard flash hotshoe so that the grownup Speedlights could be used.
