Marantz Professional PMD661 Overview

The PMD661 MKII from Marantz is a professional stereo field recorder that offers recording, playback, editing and security features in a handheld package. Like its predecessors the PMD660 and the PMD661, the PMD661 MKII incorporates a host of new features and advancements.

New security features have been added to the MKII to help keep your device and your recordings safe from unauthorized access. Menu locking and passcode protection keeps recorder usage restricted. File encryption allows you to lock specific WAV or MP3 files and passcode protect them. Encrypted files can only be played back on the PMD661 MKII itself or the included PMD Mark Editor software. These security features may be useful in law enforcement, court recording, surveillance, and government applications. Other new features include the linear retake record function, which allows for quick retake recordings on-the-fly, and the SD card check feature which allows you to easily check the compatibility of a particular SD card type.

In addition to these new features, the PMD661 MKII offers the full gamut of legacy features including on-board microphones, dual XLR inputs to connect external mics and 48V phantom power for condenser microphones. You can also use the S/PDIF digital or 3.5mm mini line input to connect other audio sources. Audio files can be recorded as WAV or MP3 at rates up to 24-bit/96 kHz and files can be transferred to your computer via the USB 2.0 port.

Retake record function allows you go back though the previously recorded audio to set a new record start point and retake a specific section of the recording
