A flexible wide-angle prime, the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM from Canon pairs the versatile focal length with sophisticated autofocus capabilities as well as image stabilization. The bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field for isolating subject matter. The optical design utilizes one aspherical element to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion for high sharpness, and a Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy. Benefitting the optical assets is a four-stop-effective Image Stabilizer, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld images. Also, a ring-type USM realizes quick, quiet, and smooth autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override.

Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM Reviews
Great lens
Great lens for my cropped sensor camera
LOVE IT!!!!
I've been trying to figure something out to make my pictures really pop! Like 'oh my goodness I shot that' type of pop, well I bit the bullet and bought the lens. And let me tell you, it did it!!! I did a newborn shoot with it and whoa Nelly! It was GORGEOUS!! SO much better than the standard lens that came with my camera. If you're on the fence about this lens, climb off, its worth it!!!
Perfect for my C70
It works amazing on my Canon C70 with 0.71X adaptor. Love the image quality and the IS.
Incredible, low light, handheld verite, lens
This is a go to lens in my documentary filmmaking kit. I have been using it for years for verite handheld work. Incredible in low light, coupled with IS makes for some beautiful footage. Having said that, it is not without its issues. The coating on this lens is not durable, I have to replace it every couple of years because over time the front element gets fogged / hazy. This is the only canon lens I have had this issue with, but it has happened on 2 of these 35mm IS lenses that I have owned... Keep in mind, I use this lens all the time, often on the road, and in difficult circumstances (rain, protests, etc)... however, at the price point, still worth it. Just bought it for a 3rd time...
Great experience!
This was a gift for our son. He loves the lens! Other than the long wait to receive the lens due to being on backorder, we are very satisfied and would highly recommend B &H Photo for any photo needs. Customer Service was exemplary! They kept us updated on the status of the order! Thank you!
it's a 3 - That's Great
First off, 3mm is a great focal length and the lens takes a lot of its character from that. The f/2.0 aperture, the small size of the lens and the medium size of the price tag all combine to make this a great value. how does it compare to other choices? Don't know, don't care. This is a good one. I got mine about 12 years ago and have about 4,700 images saved. so, it does not get a lot of use, just a nice steady pace of really god images. That makes sense for a value-priced lens that still has good quality. The focus motor make a buzzing noise and is slower than USM lens designs but that does not matter for me. It might matter if you need to be quiet and/or fast. Shooting portraits with it? Get the subject a good bit of distance away from the lens. It will look good, especially for environmental or natural light portraits indoors.
What a Sweet Little Lens
I am so glad I decided to order this lens. I did not want to let this model go away without getting one. It is fast, quiet, and accurate. I am used to having sharp non-Ls like the 85 1.8 and the 50 1.4. This 35 f2 does not disappoint. My 85 is razor sharp. This 35 rivals it. The IS will be a welcome feature, too. I recently got a 5D mkIV. The 35 makes for an awesome photography combo.
Great lens
I've had this lens for a few years but didn't use it much at first as I only really bought it to shoot some events for friends and then moved and misplaced lens. I have to say I am very impressed after having found it a few weeks ago just before going on vacation. I've always loved the 50mm as I find it to be very flattering but I am beginning to fall for the 35 focal length. I'm sure the more expensive lens would be better for low light and for overall image quality but this lens should suffice for most situations. I like it so much and have been watching so many youtube videos on the 1.4 that I am curious on that lens also. I have several portraits that look quite good but can't upload for privacy. The main thing I notice is you can get a very nice background blur. Not sure about boca. That' probably not it's strong suit but this lens in a good choice it this is around your budget. This would work great for street photographers. Something about the 35 and probably 24 that often makes the images so much more interesting that the longer lenses.
