A flexible wide-angle prime, the EF 35mm f/2 IS USM from Canon pairs the versatile focal length with sophisticated autofocus capabilities as well as image stabilization. The bright f/2 maximum aperture benefits working in difficult lighting conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field for isolating subject matter. The optical design utilizes one aspherical element to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion for high sharpness, and a Super Spectra coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color accuracy. Benefitting the optical assets is a four-stop-effective Image Stabilizer, which minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld images. Also, a ring-type USM realizes quick, quiet, and smooth autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override.

Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM Reviews
LOVE IT!!!!
I've been trying to figure something out to make my pictures really pop! Like 'oh my goodness I shot that' type of pop, well I bit the bullet and bought the lens. And let me tell you, it did it!!! I did a newborn shoot with it and whoa Nelly! It was GORGEOUS!! SO much better than the standard lens that came with my camera. If you're on the fence about this lens, climb off, its worth it!!!
Great experience!
This was a gift for our son. He loves the lens! Other than the long wait to receive the lens due to being on backorder, we are very satisfied and would highly recommend B &H Photo for any photo needs. Customer Service was exemplary! They kept us updated on the status of the order! Thank you!
it's a 3 - That's Great
First off, 3mm is a great focal length and the lens takes a lot of its character from that. The f/2.0 aperture, the small size of the lens and the medium size of the price tag all combine to make this a great value. how does it compare to other choices? Don't know, don't care. This is a good one. I got mine about 12 years ago and have about 4,700 images saved. so, it does not get a lot of use, just a nice steady pace of really god images. That makes sense for a value-priced lens that still has good quality. The focus motor make a buzzing noise and is slower than USM lens designs but that does not matter for me. It might matter if you need to be quiet and/or fast. Shooting portraits with it? Get the subject a good bit of distance away from the lens. It will look good, especially for environmental or natural light portraits indoors.
Best lens ever!
I can’t say enough about this lens...it’s got to be one of the best lenses I have ever used. Great size and weight, fantastic photos. I wish I had bought it sooner. Your only regret will be not having bought it sooner. My next purchase will likely be the 24mm 2.8 version of this lens.
Great for night sky
Love this lens for photographing the milky way.
Excellent value
In the last two months I've tried this lens in a variety of uses. It's very sharp as expected. It's also very versatile. It's excellent indoors for group shots, outstanding for landscapes and surprisingly excellent on closeups. In most situations, it outperforms my 24-70 2.8 II at 35mm.
Perfect for my C70
It works amazing on my Canon C70 with 0.71X adaptor. Love the image quality and the IS.
Incredible, low light, handheld verite, lens
This is a go to lens in my documentary filmmaking kit. I have been using it for years for verite handheld work. Incredible in low light, coupled with IS makes for some beautiful footage. Having said that, it is not without its issues. The coating on this lens is not durable, I have to replace it every couple of years because over time the front element gets fogged / hazy. This is the only canon lens I have had this issue with, but it has happened on 2 of these 35mm IS lenses that I have owned... Keep in mind, I use this lens all the time, often on the road, and in difficult circumstances (rain, protests, etc)... however, at the price point, still worth it. Just bought it for a 3rd time...
