The RT-1 Tripod Mount Ring For 70-200mm f/4G Lens from Nikon is designed for the 70-200mm f/4G lens. The ring makes rotating your lens easier and the built-in tripod collar improves lens balance by screwing into the tripod mount.

Improves Lens Balance
The ring secures your lens to the camera's tripod
Thumbscrews Tighten And Loosen Ring
Having a thumbscrew control the ring makes it easy to adjust the tripod ring on the go
Gives Your Camera Setup Better Balance
The ring adds stability to your camera and lens. Due to its weight, when the lens is mounted with a camera on a tripod, the center of gravity is shifted to the lens. The ring attaches to the tripod and can be shifted to any position on the lens, ensuring the weight is evenly distributed
Rotation
Having the camera secured with a ring around the lens makes it possible to rotate the lens between landscape and portrait modes without removing the camera from the tripod. The position of the camera distinguishes portrait or landscape mode, not the position of the lens. The friction thumbscrews can then be tightened to secure the camera in the desired position. When not needed, the ring can be rotated to an out of the way position
Hinged Design
The hinge provides the ability to keep the lens attached to the camera while disconnecting the lens from the tripod

RT-1 Tripod Mount Ring For 70-200mm f/4G Lens is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from As expected This works as expected, and it is very easy to use. It quickly snaps on to the lens in a secure manner and it is easy to remove. If your tripod uses a quick release plate, you need to attach it to the collar. I ordered an extra plate, which I can attach permanently to the collar to save time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A valuable addition Helps with tripod mounting the 70-200mm f4 lens. I tried to do without it but the balance is all wrong and verticals were impossible, so I got the tripod mount ring, a big improvement. Plus it is easily removable if you want to hand hold. It's very similar to the Canon version which I also own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! This is a great addition to my system. I have seen some criticism about the RT-1 not having an integral Arca-type base, but I prefer being able to attach whichever plate I choose (they're not all interchangeable).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RT-1 Tripod Mount Delivers Very useful for this lens. The collar fits easily and has a good feel to it. One thing I would have liked is a mark on the collar for both horizontal and vertical orientation - there is one but not two. Works well though. Great to have the camera weight stabilized by the lens mount ring. Much less lens creep once I have locked down the orientation. Not sure how it measures up to the less expensive Vello mount ring which looks well made as well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Too Expensive This product works great; but, should be included for free with the lens. Way too expensive as an add-on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Great on the New 300mm 4.0 Purchased to use with my new 300mm 4.0. Mounts and operates flawlessly. The 300 F4 does not need a Collar when used by itself, however, I use the Collar when shooting the the 300mm F4 with the Nikon TC 1.4 and TC 1.7. To sum up...this is the Go-To Collar for the New 300 F4.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tripod Ring for 70-200 f/4 Lens Seems well made.A little effort to remove, but that may be a good thing.Mounted with the foot pointed toward the camera (D300S)it is not possible to attach/detach the lens from the camerawithout loosing the ring and rotation the lens within it,so I assume that is not how it was intended to be used. All in all, a very sturdy item. Glad I got it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid collar This collar is pretty solid, more than I expected. Now just need to get out and take some pictures on my tripod with it. The one thing I regret compared to the collar for the 70-200 2.8 VRII is that the foot is integrated into the collar and can not be removed separately. This probably adds to greater stability but as I use a RRS ballhead, I would have liked to been able to add a RRS footplate in the future?
