    AJA HA5 reviews

HDMI to SD/HD-SDI Video and Audio Converter is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works with Go Pro Hero 3+ black and ATEM After a really long search I finally found a box that will allow me to run GoPros over a long 50 foot SDI cable at 1080p 30 and 60 fps for live streaming. The ATEM did not want to except the Go Pro over HDMI cat 5 extender or AVUE hdmi to sdi converter. I believe it goes into the ATEM at 1080i from the AJA which is why the others were not working as they ouput 1080p though I can't really put my finger on it as my Nikon D5200 worked with the other boxes just not the Go Pro, but HURRAY IT WORKS!!!! I am wondering if Go Pros work with the new Black Magic 4k HDMI to SDI mini converter and the ATEM TV as I don't think they work with the older Black Magic converter going into a ATEM TV, they are a bit cheaper than the AJA. Please let me know if anyone has tested a GO PRO and the Black Magic 4k miniconverter HDMI to SDI converter into the ATEM TV. Cheers!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from AJA vs Blackmagic Design I was torn between buying another Blackmagic Design HDMI to SDI battery converter or the AJA H5. Bottom line is I should have went with the BMD. Two reasons: Price and Quality. You can get the BMD for about $20 cheaper. Both come with a power supply and the AJA fits more secure because it twist locks on. But the AJA AC connector was still loose and actually caused a power interruption. The BMD is very well built and ready for field use. Go with BMD.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works...sometimes We use the HA5 model with our Hero4s. They work great, when they do work. One out of our 2 HA5s has been glitching, the signal going in and out. After a quick email to AJA support they confirmed that during their own testing they experienced the same issue with Hero4. However, I am not totally convinced it is a GoPro issue, considering only one of our two HA5s have the problem. AJA suggested I upgrade to the HA5 Plus to solve the signal issue. I inquired about their return policy which states: If a replacement is necessary, AJA will ship a new unit immediately without the need to send the original unit back first, ensuring you are up and running again as quickly as possible. But I have not heard back, and I have a feeling they wont honor that policy since they have determined its a GoPro fault, and not an AJA.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Did not work Converters will not pass video to all equipment dur to HDMI RESTRICTIONS. The converters are not reliable because of this feature. If you send signal directly to monitor or projector no problem, but will not work through a switcher

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will definitely buy another one I purchased this product to record HD news coverage of events pertaining to my work so I could include the coverage in various video programs. I connected the converter to a cable box and and a DVCPro-HD deck. It works beautifully! Both video and audio are indistinguishable from the original signal coming from the cable box.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Conversion In A Snap!!!! This converter did everything we hoped it would do. It takes HDMI video/audio, that is not DHCP protected, and converts it to HDSDI with embedded audio. The installation is a breeze and the unit can be installed and operational in less than 30 minutes. Remember - your source material cannot be HDCP protected!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the Job, Little Pricey. Works great, hasn't failed me yet. A little pricey, but does the job. Using to feed a GoPro (Drum Cam) to our switcher.
