Hoya A-NXT77UV overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 77mm UV Haze NXT HMC Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.

The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Hoya HMC filters are multi-coated for reducing flare, ghosting, and reflections on the filter surface. As a result, over 97% light transmission is possible, providing you with additional contrast and high color fidelity.

The UV NXT filters are constructed from high quality, heat-resistant, high-transparency optical glass and a precision milled low-profile aluminum frame.

    Hoya A-NXT77UV reviews

77mm UV Haze NXT HMC Filter is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 340.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of the Few that Actually Filters UV I use this filter mainly to protect the front element of one of my zoom lenses; however, tests have shown that this is one of the few so-called haze or UV filters that actually block some UV light from reaching the camera's sensor. Be that as it may, it is still a well-built and relatively thin filter that does not cause vignetting even when zoomed in to the lens' widest angle. The only negative - and this is a very minor one - is the threads sort of squeak when one screws or unscrews the filter into the front of the lens barrel. Fortunately, it doesn't get stuck and it's not hard to thread - it just makes a sort of squeak.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Manufacturing issue? I bought this filter a few days ago for my new 70-200mm lens. I wanted to clean it before mounting, so I blew it with the bellows, applied a squirt of Zeiss cleaning fluid to the lint-free, and did a circular wipe. Some kind of black crud came off on the lint-free (see picture below). No idea what it is; perhaps paint from the aluminum frame, or dirt on the glass? The filter literally had been outside the box for less than a minute when this happened. Another item noteworthy to me (perhaps long-time Hoya customers knew this already) is that this product is apparently not made by Hoya. I went to Hoya's website to see if I could find a product recall or other notice regarding this filter, and I learned that this entire line of filters (NXT) is not manufactured in the same place that true Hoya filters are. The filter case certainly says Hoya, but on the back, it says it was made in the Phillipines for exclusive distribution by Kenko Tokina in the USA. This was confirmed by their representative. I'm not suggesting this is inappropriate, but I do think it's a bit misleading, perhaps even disingenuous. Maybe not a big deal; I don't know. I mean this isn't the first time, is it? My 1-star rating reflects my own prejudices about such things, and the quality concerns raised by the crud.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Every Lens needs one I put one on all my lens as a protector. You never know when you might drop a lens and the filter takes the lick not the lens. The attached pis is an good example. After I unscrewed the filter, dusted off the glass I put another filter on and was shooting the next day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cut through -11F sea smoke I use this filter in all sorts of weather. Recently, I was on a 23-foot skiff in Head Harbor Passage between Maine and New Brunswick, calm seas but -11F, shooting seabirds through the sea smoke. This was my first real test of the filter. We were able to get close enough to Bonaparte's Gulls and Long-tailed ducks to take some of the best photos I ever shot. It was a tough choice between this filter on a 300mm lens with a 1.4x extender or a 100-400 zoom with a similar filter. I was quite pleased with its performance in such cold.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable Brand I bought this for my Tokina 11-16mm with good results. So I bought another one for my Canon 17-55mm. I thought you wouldn't see a difference between a Hoya and a cheaper third party filter. However, you can see the difference especially in light flares. It may feel like you are paying a lot for a filter that basically protects your lens, but after a few years you will know that it was a good investment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A $ Save! I have always used a quality Hoya UV filter on all my lenses for their non distorting haze reduction. And! This filter replaces a Hoya UV filter that gave it's life to save my 70-200mm f/2.8 which received a strong whack in the face. Not a scratch on the 70-200mm. Thank you Hoya!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When you get a camera, get this filter every time! The filter was a quick suggestion on the site. For the price, I can not be happier. I think this is one of the best filters out there for protection. When I got it, it was so clean I thought the glass was missing! When you get a camera, get a filter every time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Already saved a $ lens I think it's always a good idea to have a haze or skylight filter on every lens for two reasons. They remove excessive blue from images and protect the lens. I bought this filter a week ago and it already saved a $ lens. When out photographing in the woods last weekend, I slipped in some mud and fell. This filter wound up covered with mud, but the lens itself was unscathed. Optically, it's performance is excellent. I highly recommend it!
