Hoya A-NXT405CRPL Overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 40.5mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is non-coated. Hoya NXT filters have over 97% average light transmission, and are constructed from heat-resistant, high-transparency optical glass.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Non-coated.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Over 97% average light transmission.

    Hoya A-NXT405CRPL Reviews

40.5mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value - Quality and Price Polarizing filters can be quite expensive. For some, the very, very best may be important. But, I cannot see any reason not to use the Hoya for any of my projects. I shoot for our company brochure and other stuff for fun.The Hoya NXT offers good image quality. It has not shown any tendency to induce flare (though I may be over cautious in using it). There were no imperfections that I could spot on the glass or that became evident in my photographs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good performance at a reasonable price I purchased this filter to be used on an Olympus TG-4 during a recent trip to the Galapagos. Since it would be used in a variety of environments, including underwater, I was seeking particular physical qualities in addition to good overall performance. The Hoya NXT met or exceeded my expectations. In terms of fit, the filter had to have screw threads that attached easily and tightly to the camera mount. Due to the distance from the filter mount to the front lens element, I also wanted the filter to be thin in order to fit as closely as possible. The Hoya met both of these requirements. The filter's handling was also a plus, since it was easy to adjust, even under water. As expected, salt and sand needed to be cleaned from the filter after such use, and this, too was quite manageable without requiring special equipment. Photos taken with the filter showed no signs of distortion or uneven polarization, even under rather difficult conditions. I rated this a 4 out of 5 because it met or exceeded the performance of the comparably priced polarizing filters that I own. The Hoya's performance was bested only by polarizers that cost me more than twice as much, however, I would not have submitted those filters to the same conditions of use, so overall, it's a bargain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Filter It's a filter. So it doesn't need a lengthy review to talk about what it does and why. The simple fact is that it is a filter that does what it is supposed to do at a great price. The only gripe I could even have is that it can be a little difficult to screw on and off because the grip ring is so small. However, I use the word gripe loosely. It isn't that big of a deal and it is better than having a large obtrusive object.
