The Hoya 72mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is non-coated. Hoya NXT filters have over 97% average light transmission, and are constructed from heat-resistant, high-transparency optical glass.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Non-coated.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Over 97% average light transmission.

72mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does all that I have needed so far This filter has a nice slim profile that doesn't show any vignetting on my alpha 16-50 lens. The filter worked for me taking some building shots including blue sky to make the sky a great color. I have also used it to eliminate some of the reflections in some car photos. I had an problem in removing the filter the first time I installed it. I was unable to get a good enough grip to get it to unscrew. I borrowed my wife's smaller fingers and she was able to do it. The next time I didn't tighten it so tightly and had no problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Choice Good polarizer, good quality ring and glass, rotates well, quality feel. Pretty low profile, so that you have little to no vignetting if you use on a wide angle lens. I bought to use on a sony FE 70-200 and 16-35. If you stack filters ( I do, because I don't remove the protective Hoya NXT HMC UV filters when I'm out shooting) there are a couple quirks. On the 16-35, you'll get vignetting up to about 20 or 21mm. If you're not stacking, there's a touch of vignette at 16, but none at 18. Removing the filter from the top of another filter is hard to do without removing the UV filter, but that's often true when stacking filters. I found my shots came out a little warmer than expected, but that may be a consequence of the stacking and auto white balance. That said, all of this is kind of nit picky; I'd definitely buy it again. It's well made, high quality and has a low profile, and the price seems reasonable for a quality filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Polarizer! Very thin and causes no vignetting. Has a triangular mark on the outer ring to line up with either the sun or light source. Very smooth rotation. Easy on and off with it's grip lines around the ring. Excellent to bring out clouds in the sky and deepen the blue in the sky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does what it's designed for I use this on my new Sigma 18-300mm lens on my Sony A77 for nature, landscape and birds at water feature photos. Build quality is good and is easily mountable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Smooth operation, and with the slim profile there's no vignettes at my wider angles (24 mm) and very little vignette my when stacked on my UV filter
