Hoya 72mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter
Key Features
  • Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare
  • Non-Coated
  • Reduces Haze in Landscapes
  • Greater Color and Tonal Saturation
The Hoya 72mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

Hoya NXT Overview

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is non-coated. Hoya NXT filters have over 97% average light transmission, and are constructed from heat-resistant, high-transparency optical glass.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Non-coated.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.

It comes in a nice hard case and looks / feels well made. I’m still learning how to get the most from it but it will definitely expand my options.

Worked exactly as expected. The threads will stick be careful of over tightening when installing. A plastic filter wrench works great to loosen without damaging the filter or lens

Made some shots possible.

Just learning to use the polarizer. I shot surfers and, strangely enough, butterflies on the same day. I could not have gotten the shots without this help unless maybe I was using my ND filters. But this seemed great for the shots of the surfers and my understanding is that a polarizer is good for water shots like that in bright light.

Noticeably better than the cheaper filters

I bought this to replace an Amazon Basics polarizer that degraded resolution for focal lengths 50mm. I checked the Hoya on a Nikon Z 24-70 f/4 FF and a 16-80 DX lens and there was no degradation observable. Slightly less transmission than Amazon but more accurate colors. As others have said, filter is quite thin so no vignetting at 24mm FF. As with all thin filters, mounting and unmounting requires a soft touch and careful alignment-just don't squeeze the filter or it will distort and get stuck.

Nothing much to say. I wouldn.t have a camera without being able to capture the various visual advantages of a polarizer

Like the slim line feature of the filter to prevent vignetting of the image.

question

is this filter appropriate for film cameras, or more importantly, will it work on a lens attached to a film camera?what's the advantage of the lens being non-coated?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes that filter is fine for film or digital cameras.Lenses and filters with coatings are in general much better. Lens and filter coatings help limit flair and will than make the image look better and give it a good contrast. So it is a benefit to have lenses coated.
