The Hoya 77mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter is non-coated. Hoya NXT filters have over 97% average light transmission, and are constructed from heat-resistant, high-transparency optical glass.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Non-coated.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Over 97% average light transmission.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hoya Makes the Best Filters! Very rarely do you find a product that is professional quality that is inexpensive. Don't let the price fool you, this is a high quality filter! It's true that there are cheaper polarizer filters on the market, but they do not perform as well as this one. I've always favored Hoya filters, and use a UV filter on every camera I own. I have recently developed a need for a circular polarizer filter, and this is a fantastic choice that will work under a variety of conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Must for Landscape Photography If you are a landscape photographer, then this one is a must in your backpack. Best with: waterfalls, waterscapes, mid-day shots where the light is harsh, etc.. Word of Caution: Pay attention when you use it at wide-angle focal lengths as it may cause un-even polarization some times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 77mm NXT Circular Polarizer Filter by Ho Purchased for use with glare from reflective surfaces but I find it helps smooth out the overall tones and colors of non-glaring surfaces, too. Tested my lens extensively for any signs of loss of sharpness with this filter in place and can detect none. Seems like quality glass. So, the only time I take this filter off now is when I am in very low light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality filter I'm a professional landscape and nature photographer, it's hard to live and work without a good Circular polarizer. This is a thin mount that fits all my Nikkor 77mm glass. I get no vignetting even on my 16-35mm lens.I've found Hoya to be a consistantly good well constructed product. My short list of filters extends only to Singh-Ray and Schneider.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No point to spend more.... I was considering to spend much more on this most important filter. After couple of test, I was unable to see difference on photographs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blue Skies are back! I use it outdoors with with my 17-40mm EF L-series lens on my Canon 5D Mark III camera, for amateur stills and professional video. Filter screws on easily to the front of the lens. Then turn the polarizer ring on the outer part of the filter to deepen the blues in your skies - oooh!
