The Hoya 52mm alpha MC UV Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.

The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Hoya alpha UV filters are multi-coated for reducing flare, ghosting, and reflections on the filter surface. As a result, a higher light transmission of approximately 96% is possible, providing you with additional contrast and high color fidelity.

The alpha filters are constructed from optical glass and a precision milled aluminum frame.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I liked dealing with B&H After looking all over the Washington DC area for a Tamron 14-150mm F/3.5-5.8 Di Iii Lens For a Micro Four Thirds camera, I ordered one over the telephone from B&H. Since the lens was a gift for my wife, I cannot review it, except to say she seems to really like it. But I can review B&H. Its customer service over the phone was great, its price was very competitive, and the guy I bought it from went out of his way to get the lens to me on time for my wedding anniversary, even though I missed the deadline for having it shipped for that date. From all that I can see, the lens was fine. And I am in a position to say B&H was great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Protects my new lens; no noticeable effect on colors/haze I am a hobbyist, not a professional, and so I have to think very carefully about each equipment upgrade I make. I'm unlikely to earn money back on any investment since I do very few paid gigs, but I also want my equipment to last for my continued enjoyment and development as a photographer. For my first basic 18-55mm lens, therefore, I opted out of the UV filter, thinking it was some unnecessary add-on (haha!). However, A tragic fall that irreparably scratched said lens proved me very wrong. Since then, I saved up to purchase a replacement lens and this little gem to protect my new investment. It does not seem to have any noticiable visual effect on the colors (I tried photos with it both on and off), but I breathe a little easier knowing this new lens is now better protected than my last.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Definitely a life saver I use this more for protection than any other use. Although, it does wonders for day-lit photos. It doesn't advertise that there is contrast or saturation, but it does provide contrast and saturation that boost day-lit photo quality, but it is not very useful indoors. The best I have found is for protection. I shoot day camps for 1-6 graders and you never know what is going to happen. I actually got hit yesterday by a soccer ball square in the lens. Did not damage the lens and the filter only had slight damage on the ring to keep the lens in place. Still going to use it as it didn't affect the quality. I give it props for that. The reason I gave a 4 was because I didn't want the saturation or contrast coloring because I shoot indoors and out all day, and it's inconvenient for me to remove the filter every often time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, Easy, Lens Protection If you feel, like I do, that a new lens needs additional protection on the end glass, then this is the perfect filter for you. It seems almost clear if not for the UV protection, but it also saves you money. Consider the protection of a $+ lens for the price of this filter. I would much rather replace this filter for pennies, than have to replace an expensive lens because the end glass was damaged. I have never noticed any coloration of alteration of images using a UV filter. Either keep it in its protective case till needed, or just leave it on the lens all the time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good filter at a low price Works great in most situations, but I've noticed some lens flares on photos I've taken at night with bright light sources. I think it's a good filter for the price, which was low. I wouldn't recommend it for people who take a lot of nighttime pictures.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong, durable, important. I have had a Hoya filter on my 50mm f/1.8 for over 9 years now. It has been great with protecting the actual lens surface from scratches and debris. It finally met its match after having a paintball fired at it. The lens turned out fine as the filter took the brunt of the hit. It cracked, but did not break apart! A few tens of dollars for a filter is the best investment you can make. It WILL save you from making larger purchases (replacement lenses)in many cases. Protect your investment with this product. I use nothing but Hoya filters on my gear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lensprotection I did some research as to what to use to protect a camera lens. The results were mixed as to using or not using uv filter on a dslr camera.I am less than an amature photographer on a tight budget and protecting the lens is of utmost importance to me.On one occasion I did drop my camera and the filter cracked an splintered but there was no damage to the lens or its threads. For that reason I recommend this filter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High quality UV Filter This is one of the most useful pieces of equipment you can have. It works as described and also protects your lens from accidental bumps and bruises. I once had a UV Filter attached to my lens and the tripod I was using was an antique and the darn thing broke. I barely caught the camera as it hit the pavement denting the UV Filter and breaking the UV Glass but saving my lens from any harm. Don't leave home without one and spend a couple of bucks more and get a high quality filter. Don't leave home without one.
