Hoya C-ALP77UV overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 77mm alpha MC UV Filter is a general use, clear filter that helps to absorb ultraviolet light. No additional coloration or contrast is provided, allowing you to pair this filter with others.

The UV filter is also useful as a general protective filter to leave on lenses at all times. Filters help to reduce dust and moisture from reaching your lens element and provide additional protection in case of drops or situations where scratching could occur.

Hoya alpha UV filters are multi-coated for reducing flare, ghosting, and reflections on the filter surface. As a result, a higher light transmission of approximately 96% is possible, providing you with additional contrast and high color fidelity.

The alpha filters are constructed from optical glass and a precision milled aluminum frame.

    Hoya C-ALP77UV reviews

77mm alpha MC UV Filter is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 31.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from I have no confidence in this filter I have always purchased Hoya filters for my lens. I have a great deal of confidence in their products. When I received this filter I was surprised to find that the spring ring that holds the filter lens to the frame was out of place and loose in the manufacturers box. I also noticed that this filter is made in the Philippines instead of Japan. Other reviewers mentioned the same type of problem. I have no confidence in this filter. I called B&H customer service and they were very helpful. I am returning this filter and ordered a different model Hoya filter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Wouldn't buy it again I don't think it is very well made and I don't like the coating. I forgot I had it on my camera and I put a polarizer over it (I know, don't stack filters...) and the filters jammed on the lens. I used a plastic filter wrench to remove the filters (great product, by the way), something I have done with other filters, and the Hoya sort of separated. Never happened with any other filter, and didn't happen to the polarizer. When I say separated, I mean that the filter ring became a little loose, and the filter itself seems to have de-laminated. I thought it was something on the filter but when I tried to clean it I realized that the filter itself is damaged, like a sheet of plastic somehow separated from the base. The surface of the lens is rough, too, so I find it hard to clean. From now on I'll go back to B&W filters. Tried to save a little money and it will end up costing me more.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed Just not the quality I expected. Spring holding glass in place keeps popping out of place. I paid more for a Hoya filter in the hopes it would be higher quality and I won't make that mistake again. Also not easy to clean. Not sure if it is the coating but filter appears smeared and cloudy after cleaning.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Second Time is a Charm I've purchased Hoya filters in the past and never had a quality issue until this one. Spring ring, which holds the glass in place jumped out of the filter, when opening the new package like a Jack-in-the-Box. B&H customer service was the best. Emailed me a return label and promptly shipped out a replacement filter upon receipt of the return.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Design Flaw in this filter don't buy Would you place a spring loaded piece of metal millimeters from the front element of your lens?As many reviewers point out I received 2 filters with the holding element out of place. It was when I received the third one that I noticed that this metal element holding the glass in place is in the inside and is not a solid ring but a split one and it could become loose any moment and land in your lens front element. If the use of a filter is to protect the lens from scratches and hits, this filter will do the opposite when the metal jumps out... metal and glass of filter will hit the front element of your lens.B and H have been, as always, impeccable with their service and prompt response in replacing the filters, I am just not going to use these filters they are dangerous for your lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hoya 77 mm Alpha VU I always buy from B&H and I love the customer service they give. When their phone rep told me about Hoya I said I wold try it. So far it has been much better than my cheaper filters. I will not use a lower line brand of filter again. The difference it makes is tremendous. I guess you could spend more on a B&W but the Hoya works for me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent UV Filter The UV filter performed its job as I spent many days in the bright sun taking pictures. I often find myself being a little rough with putting the lens cap on when I have a hood also attached to the lens. The filter protected my lens and didn't scratch the few times I was attaching my cover without looking.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for protection! I am so glad to have this filter not only because I feel like it's a great quality product, but it also protects my 50mm from getting scratched or messed up. That in itself is reason enough for me to have this around! Great product!
