Hoya XHD2-37CRPL overview

  • 1Description

The Hoya 37mm HD2 Circular Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A circular polarizer only differs from a linear polarizer in that it contains a quarter wave plane in addition to the linear polarizing filter. The addition of this quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize the linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

This filter has an 8-layer multi-coating for very high average light transmission of 99.35%. It is constructed from optical glass and features a thin frame.

Clears up haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° angle from the sun.
Circular polarizers are ideal for use with digital cameras and autofocus lenses where a linear polarizer will often disrupt auto exposure and focus features.
Has an 8-layer multi-coating for very high average light transmission of 99.35%.
Constructed from hardened optical glass to increase strength and durability.
Thin frame.
Water- and oil-repellent and scratch- and stain-resistant, making for easy cleaning.

    Hoya XHD2-37CRPL reviews

37mm HD2 Circular Polarizer Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Natural coloring filter but stupid case The filter is really good. Natural colors, low reflection and good polarization effect... But the supplied case is disturbing - oversized, square and not comfortable to open. Luckily I have a filter case from another brand that is just right. If I had to buy a case to this filter, than I could buy in advance a more expensive lens with a suitable case... Because unlike UV filters, you don't leave the Polaroid filter all the time on your lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing ! OMG ! What a filter. I tried many different makes including non brand made in Japan filters with multi coating in an attempt to save money. I learned the hard way, now that I have returned all of them. This is it people. Worth every - single - penny. Amazing filter. the color saturation it brings is so amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Hoya CPL I am using 37 mm filters on a modified Coolpix P330 to which I attached a machined stepup ring 30-37. Initially I bought a Polaroid CPL, it was O.K. but wasn't MRC. This Hoya is definitely superior in quality and glass. I own other Hoya and they all are great CPL.
